They annually host the second stage of Q-school qualifying for good reason; it’s a tremendous test of golf without being unfair. There are no blind tee shots, no crazy chasms to hit over, no target golf holes, no ridiculously deep fairway bunkers, no extreme doglegs, just challenging tee shots, well protected greens, strategically positioned trees, well placed water hazards, and a brutally tough finishing hole.
Besides the challenge, Oak Valley GC is also a beautiful layout with many scenic backdrops. Not one hole was a let down and I particularly liked the mountain backdrops and gleaming water hazards on the back nine.
Lastly and most importantly, this course is kept in immaculate condition. There is absolutely nothing to complain about. The turf is lush and well groomed. The greens are smooth, fast, and receive shots well. The bunkers are meticulously kept. And the tee boxes are well maintained.
Overall, I hear the Santa Ana winds can play havoc but under the normal typical weather conditions for the Beaumont area, I recommend Oak Valley Golf Club to all golfers. If you’ve got serious game, tee it up from the backs. If you’re a 20+ play the gold tees which measure a mere 5860 yards. Most importantly breathe in as much of this course as you can because there are not many like it for under $100.
