Never having played Oak Valley and rarely in the area, I drove out on Tuesday, 11/25 to meet a buddy to catch up on life and share a round on his home course — him literally renting in the development. The week after all the rain, it was good timing because things were greened up but not sloppy. Playing the whites, conditions were solid and a step above my normal muni excursions. Teeing grounds were green, clean and while I wouldn't take a level to them, they were consistently level enough. Fairways had consistently green coverage and good lies. The rough was similarly green and on the thick side, more often costing a shot. Missed the bunkers and the grooming appeared average. Green surrounds could be on the heavier side and hitting into the grain could be an ugly result, while the putting surfaces were clean and running at the fast end of medium. Not a readily walkable course, $60 with cart seemed like a pretty solid deal. It has a good amount of contour with interesting holes and the occasional altitude drop or rise. A few holes required some carry on the tee shots or the second shots, and there could be consequences for getting off line (drop off, water, etc.) but the fairways were a reasonable target width. I think the main challenges tended to be around the green complexes. Frequently they eliminated or minimized the roll up option with bunkers, elevation or an angled alignment to the fairway so airmail was required to reach the putting surface. Bottom line, between the course itself and the nearby snow capped mountains, there was some nice visual interest and more than a reasonable amount of challenge for those of us not blessed with single digit handicap level games. We teed of around 12:40, had a painfully slow group in front of us, skipped them and the tenth hole at the turn and finished on 17 due to failing light. Don't know if/when I will ever be back, but I would welcome it with the bit of course knowledge I gained.

Price was right. 60 after 10:30. The course is in good condition. We played 10/15/25. The greens were very receptive and quick, probably a 10. They can get these faster whenever they want. Very scenic... Continue »

Price was right. 60 after 10:30. The course is in good condition. We played 10/15/25. The greens were very receptive and quick, probably a 10. They can get these faster whenever they want. Very scenic course and what you see is what you get. Its defense is wind and the greens. You miss on the wrong side and it will cost you. In fact, the rough around the greens is difficult. Bunkers are so so, hit or miss. You can save many strokes by fairways and greens. All in all it's a great course and the price is refreshing.

Weekday afternoon rate is $60 and that starts at 12pm. It's too hot to walk anyways, and they don't allow walking here. IMO this rate is actually pretty okay for this course. Conditions have not cha... Continue »

Weekday afternoon rate is $60 and that starts at 12pm. It's too hot to walk anyways, and they don't allow walking here. IMO this rate is actually pretty okay for this course. Conditions have not changed a ton. Teeboxes are majority good shape, and some are closed for maintenance, that's a good sign. Fairways have good coverage except for scattered dry spots in short approach areas. Driver landing areas were great. The greens are the feature of this place that make it worth the bit of extra dough and extra frustration. They were running slower than expected (call it 'medium' speed), but tricky nonetheless with difficult pins. The attached bar and grill is actually a separate business, didn't see a beverage cart but we also didn't have anyone behind us and POP was spot on for a 3-some at 4 hours. Nice time of day to play cart golf without waiting. I'd come back twice a week if they'd let me walk in the afternoons..

Paid $70 in the afternoon (2pm start) out of desperation for a round without driving too far... kinda regret it. Conditions still not worth the price, many bare spots or funky lies in fairway landing areas and crummy bunkers are the norm. Rough is grown to a couple inches but some holes have a gopher hole problem in the rough. Greens are great, but worth the price? Methinks not. Managed to get the front 9 done in about 2.5 hours, the marshal found us on 4 tee and recommended just going off 1 again instead of waiting more on the back 9, so I split from the threesome I was paired with and got another 6 holes in before dark. Hate to support these prices but that's Saturday golf for you. Biggest joke here might be the $50 rate for 9 holes.

Not much changed since the 2 week closure for overseeding. Teeboxes still pretty crummy, uneven and chewed up. Fairways are very pleasant to hit off of and also roll drives out nicely, greens were kinda shaggy but rolled true, some parts bumpy. There was a dead gopher in a trap on the 14th teebox. Great POP on the front but horrendous on the back, three singles joined up and ended up waiting on another threesome every shot, playing like they were on TV.

$60 for a 12:30 teetime feels high given the conditions, some parts of the fairways and rough are just not great, plus you have to try not to hit the locals fishing the lakes on the back 9. I guess the layout keeps me coming back, that and Tukwet was all booked today.

Got a "hot time" on GolfNow, $55 with cart for 2 players at 1:50. There was no starter, my buddy and I teed off around 2:00 due to being silly gooses, also joined by another player who got the 1:50 deal and was also running late.

Conditions are good with some bad spots. Teeboxes unlevel at parts, but actually cut. Fairways are great, even managed to hit a perfect dinger 4-wood out of a sandy divot. The rough is thinner in some parts and more punitive in others. Greens rolled great but were VERY soft - a high-flighted 7 iron from 160 plugged very deep in the 14th green and every shot that hit a green from a well-struck iron left a huge divot. They felt kind of... spongy? and have some tricky less-than-you-think breaks around the holes.

The 'hot deal' is probably the only way I would play a full round here. I just don't think it's worth full rate, they actually will charge $50 for 9 holes on the weekends.

There is a grill/snack bar/booze bar in the clubhouse now, didn't partake in a glizzy but they gave my playing partner the last of the morning coffee for free, and it didn't taste half bad and was strong, so, that's something. No beverage cart to speak of, despite plenty of other people out on the course.

The pro shop elected to let me on at 5:00pm (hooray!) and insisted that I take a cart even though I wanted to walk (understanding that it's very hilly terrain). Cart didn't have GPS and had the speed governor turned up a fair bit. That said, I'm glad they reversed their previous decision and let me out in the premium twilight hours. Was able to make it around in 2.5 hours with no one in front or behind.

This remains a really tough track - accuracy off the tee is a must, and many landing areas are obscured by hills or fairway bunkers. Plays 6300 from the white tees, which was plenty of challenge for this average golfer. Rough tangles your club up if you don't come at it steep, which is fair. The greens were recently punched (seems like a couple weeks ago) but they rolled fairly true and still fast. Lots of multi-tiered greens with wicked undulations.

Pro shop charged $40 "for 9 holes, and we need the cart back by 7:45", I think the price is a little high - peak times the fee is $80. Tee boxes were mostly level with a few funky spots.

$14 for a large bucket that doesn't even fill to the brim, that's the worst deal here. Overall, really enjoyed the challenge, hadn't played here in years and you really have to remember to focus on every shot or you'll be hacking it out of the rough.

Played 11/20/23 @ 0830, course plays completely different with a constant 5-10 mph wind. Course was in good shape, not great, but it seems like more money is flowing in now. Pro shop upstairs is open now and the snack bar is operational. They even have new carts (basic- no GPS). The last time I came it felt like they were going to close down the course. I'm really glad they are turning things around. Tee boxes were level most of the time, fairways were ok with the occasional bare spot and thin spots throughout. Fairway and greenside bunkers were the weakest part of the course. They are basically just dirt with rocks in them. Greens were something else though- they dried out because of the wind and they were rock hard. I had a couple of putts get blown off line by the wind. It wasn't a very good putting day... All in all I'm just glad they're turning things around, this is one of my favorite courses to play on the way to the desert.

The staff was fantastic. Everyone we encountered was friendly and accommodating Very much appreciated. The course was in generally nice condition. The greens rolled very well, and those which had been mowed had decent pace. All were very receptive. Some of the rough was U S Open thick. Found a number of balls which obviously had been lost the day before. Crazy ! Bunkers had plenty of well raked sand. Most of the tee boxes were OK, some not so great.

Enjoyed playing Oak Valley again after a 6-year absence. Decided to play from the white tees which turned out to be a smart decision. Played a lot more like it did "years ago"
