Played last week but have been too busy to sit and write this. Course is in decent shape. A bit brown still but fairly soft surface is nice to hit off of and gives decent roll. Greens hold nicely and rolled true. Speed was a bit slower than I'm used to here but played OK. As usual the sand was the biggest negative. Not just hard but lots of pebbles and some rocks. Didn't spend much time in them but a couple played nice with softer sand and some were hard, no consistency. Still a fun round of golf and decent price.

Played 4-12-23. It was a bit windy but not uncommon here. Greens are recovering from being punched but they are offering a discounted rate. No GPS on the carts. Sand is firm but playable. Most of the pebbles have been cleared or new sand is covering them but not the problem it used to be. Fairways rough and tee boxes are in good shape and made it a pleasure to play. Not a fancy course but for a quick round, played in 3 hours, it is well worth the price.

Played 3-16-22. It was a little windy so the challenge was up. Course is in great shape still. Greens were fast and smooth. Fairways lush and rough not too tough. As usual my one complaint would be that the fairway bunkers were full of rocks. Greenside bunkers were in good shape, soft sand well raked. Overall course is worth playing if you want a quick round and to work on your short game and enjoy some great greens.

Played 1-5-22. Got out for an early morning round. They were us at 9 with a shotgun start. Unfortunately with no marshals many groups just kept playing even after passing their starting holes. We started with wide open course with no one ahead since they started everyone with an open hole between groups. Caught up to a slow 2some with a 4some ahead of them and the rest of the round was plodding along waiting on every hole. Ridiculous when the course was mostly empty.
The course is in great shape. Winter conditions mean short rough and smooth hard fairways. Greens were excellent, smooth and quick and soft. Tee boxes were nice. If it wasn't for the terrible sand it could rank with some of the best conditions I have played in a while. I expect (sadly) to find pebbles in the bunkers but we encountered rocks in the sand. We would not play out of most of them since we did not want to risk damage to our clubs. We will be back and hope they can maintain the course so it plays as well all year!

Played 4-11-21. Thought the course would be empty with the final round of the Masters on but not the case. It actually seemed overbooked. First 9 on Mesquite went slow but steady but moving on to Birch had 3 groups waiting on the tee. Pro shop said all courses were backed up. The tee boxes were OK but chewed up and beat up. For the first time the forward tees were in better shape than the rest. Course is very dry with brown patches here and there. The greens showed signs of being punched but were mostly healed. Many brown patches on the greens and they were on the slow side. Green side bunkers were in excellent shape but the ones in the fairway were 50/50 sand and rocks. The kind you know will damage your clubs to hit out of. Some holes had foam and some didn't. Not sure why. Some of the cups were rough around the edges and could repel your ball as it rolled up. Expected nice conditions with a mild and fairly wet winter. It does not bode well for how the course will be in the heat of summer!

Played Ashwood at 9am Sunday 5/17 with Jim and Vic. Light winds at tee off, heavy winds by early afternoon, but still playable(3 club headwind at the end). They brought me here to help me warm up my iron game(no par 5's). Facilities are real nice and so is the service!
They have a super fleet of carts, and you can check in early like the good ol' days. The putting greens, chipping areas and range were all open. No beverage cart that day.
Tees were good, I only encountered one on Birch that I detected with a slight mound and some firmness.
Fairways were good, everywhere.
Rough was great, I found it often...and often useful to saving my game.
Sand, good, had a hardpan surface look, but only a slight surface crust hat would let balls plug to a good depth if you entered hot.
Greens were all consistent and performed well. However, they were rolling med/med, and you could easily see the grain. They did match the practice greens. The cups and flags were in a normal setup, they simply trust that we will not touch/remove the flag at this time.

Vic took the 'lucky charm' birdie chain from Jim on #10(sycamore #1), and wore it till it broke on his approach shot on #11. This is a good BC battleground, lots of par 3s and short par 4s!

Have been playing with the golf team. We have played all 3 courses and as usual Mesquite and Sycamore are in very nice shape. For some reason Birch is still has very firm fairways. Also not as much of a challenging layout. The biggest negative are the bunkers. Fairway bunkers are very firm and greenside though a bit softer still play more like a chip shot than a sand shot. Greens are rolling nice but a little slower than normal. All in all a nice spot to have a casual round. Good food too!

Played 1-24-18. Course is in good shape. Greens still show signs of punching but rolled nice and fast! Tee boxes smooth and lush. Fairways a bit dry but very playable. Bunkers were soft for the most part but some had many small pebbles. Played all 27 holes and conditions were consistent throughout. Troon is trying to make this a course something special for an executive course. Look forward to playing again.

Decided to walk nine holes yesterday (7/30) and today. Yesterday played Sycamore. It is a bit more conducive to walking since the distance from hole to next tee is short. Greens were in typical Ashwood shape, smooth, true and a bit on the slow side. With the drought here the fairways were surprisingly good, but the dead patches continue to get larger. Played by myself and had one two-some (in a cart) pass me on #4. 9 hole in 1:30. Not bad. Today I played Birch and POP was just a bit longer 1:50 but the distance from hole to next tee is a lot longer than Sycamore. Wind was blustery out of the south, but that made for some great drives on No. 5 & No. 7. Greens on Birch were a bit better but speed was still Ashwood usual. My pet peeve at this course is the condition of the sand traps and bunkers. I think the superintendant ordered a mixed load from XYZ Rock, Sand & Gravel, because that exactly what you have in each of these hazards. On a final note...You could tell that the Men's club had played Birch earlier in the day.
Staff is always friendly and accommodating. The $10 walking fee for 9 holes is a good deal.
