Did not play here but caddied for my 12 year-old nephew as part of the USGA Junior Amateur Qualifier.

Have to say the conditions here are superb. It's actually close to water (there appears to be a man-made lake close-by (across the street) and the Mojave River runs past it. Located in the Mojave Desert, you would expect it to be pretty hot which is it but in my opinion quite comfortable. It was 98*F with a beating sun but playable even after walking and caddying 36 holes.

There is a lot to know about this course. For starters you really have to know your placement as low branches can easily cut your shot and leave you tremendously short which happened to us the first time we played. Older, mature trees also protect the sides of the course and often preventing aggressive shots to the green. There appears to be reachable par 5s on the card but you have to be really long off the tee to make it there in two. Do yourself a favor shoot for the middle. This course is pretty much what you see is what you get so stop trying to be cute.

Greens rolled very true on a firm surface. Sand in bunkers were well stocked and maintained. Fairways lush. Rough extremely thick, sticky and punishing. Tee boxes were flat and offered a pretty good view of the whole fairway. If the view was blocked it was for a reason so best to play it safe and put the ball out where you can see it. Loads of homes side the golf course and the trees have no problem throwing your golf ball into the unsuspecting homes.

Pace of play for the juniors was brisk. We finished both rounds on time with the final round finishing 20 minutes early. There was some vagrant hopped out on something walking and screaming through the course but he was handled respectfully and allowed to leave the course before the authorities did their job.

Overall if you get a chance to play this oasis in the desert, it's only really 90 minutes from the South Bay and 40 from the Mid Cities and OC. Could be a nice change of pace to play a decent course you wouldn't expect to exist otherwise.

My opinion is favorable. Given the chance to play here, I would in a heartbeat.
