Played in the late morning on Thursday, 12/9/10, on a perfect day for golf – warm, sunny, and almost no wind. I found this course a few weeks ago and played only 12 holes due to STL, so wanted to get back and see the whole enchilada. Hooked up as a single with 3 local regulars who helped a lot with course knowledge and were a lot of fun to play with. Great conditions again – greens firm and fast, fairways dormant but with good (tight) lies, rough not too heavy but can grab your club. Some unfilled divots in fairways, and a few unrepaired ball marks on greens, but generally better than many public courses. Course is visually very pleasing and the last few holes play through a neat escarpment/arroyo and are both visually stunning and very difficult. Plenty of water available. Minor problems – tees were shaggy and needed to be cut; the snack phone on #9 tee wasn’t working and snack bar didn’t answer when I called thru the main number; groups in front of us were VERY slow and there is no ranger; too many holes were cart path only, with no apparent reason. Course apparently changed hands last year and there are some ongoing ‘issues’. I would play here regularly if the darn place wasn’t so hard to get to. Highly recommended.
