My buddies set up this golf outing for this morning. I have never played, and won't come back... This track had terrible, uneven, tee boxes, with a lot of unrepaired divots. The fairways have squirrel burroughs everywhere. Drives can land in these holes. Dry turf with plenty of dirt patches. Good drives are not rewarded. The rough are hard panned too. The bunkers are weed grown pit holes, some had 2-3 Foot weed stems sprouting from them. Greenside bunkers are really hard pan. The greens are spunggy and very slow. I would Not recommend this Country Club.

Played an early 3.5 hour round on a course the dogs won't even show up at anymore. I would not be surprised to see this place closing before the end of the year! The tee boxes were thin, hard and sloped. The fairways were in sad shape with little to no coverage. They were so dry and hard that shots ran off into the jungle along the creek that runs through this course. The traps were either dirt hard pan or wet and all had little to no sand in them. The greens were SO SAD that they cannot even be called greens anymore! Every green had bare spots and patches of grasses that were either very long or dead! I can't explain how POOR these greens are. It's sad to see what has happened to this course. It was a pretty fair test of golf years ago before the present draining of blood from every part of it from the clubhouse to the course. To pay anything here to play is more than unfair to the golfing public. The clubhouse is in shambles and the course is in the toilet and almost out of sight. Definitely a waste of money to play here nowadays! Sad sad sad......

Played 4/21/2019. Was here about 2 years ago and conditions were not great but for the price not bad. But NOW??? Greens are fungus ridden and horribly lumpy, fairways have a lot of dead patches. the 1st cut off the fairway is so thick it is easy to lose balls that bounce 2-3 feet off fairway. Drainage creeks are full of debris and some bunkers have grass growing in them. Parking lot had weeds growing out of cracks and overgrown shrubs everywhere. Very little maintenance has been done (some local players told us the new owner spends very little).
Another ominous note (and distressing for women) is that when we were done at 4pm, the clubhouse was LOCKED including ALL restrooms!
The saving grace? The employees and staff are polite and cheerful while handling multiple jobs
(the bartender was trying to give info on tee time prices and group discounts while mixing drinks)
Will not return anytime soon

I live just up the road and have played here occasionally over the years. After playing in October I think this place needs to have a little love passed it's way. I know all about some of the greens and the bare spots that have been present. For the most part these areas were not in play 90% of the time and we just took small relief if needed. I played Vineyards in September and they were having the same problem with some of the greens. I play Woods Valley, Golf Club of California, Eagle Crest and Oceanside. None of these courses are in pristine condition and I think Castle Creek really is in the same class because none of these course can water enough. Bottom line is we had fun and Castle is a nice mix of very tough holes if you play the wrong tees. I say give it a try again and unless you are paying top end golf somewhere else you may surprised. It's a good bang for the buck

This course is a complete mess. I walked on Sunday, 8/26 at 2:00pm. From the first fairway I noticed that there were many bare spots. Later fairways had some grass but still thin but what little grass there was was long. It was like being in rough when you were down the center of the fairway. The greens were in horrible shape. There were many dead spots and then they were uneven. Not a smooth putt all day. In my opinion the course condition is such that I would not be surprised if they closed any day.

Pro Shop is bare with only a few shirts and hardly any golf balls. Snack bar is closed so they moved everything up in the Pro Shop. Did talk with the head pro before my round and he was nice and helpful he remembered me from another course I played at so that was nice. He told me about the new owner and some of the plans they had coming, made it sound pretty hopeful for the next upcoming months.

Golf course is a mess and hands down has the worst greens I have ever played on or seen many bare spots and roll was unpredictable!! I was told about them before my round but still the worst I have played. one of the guys I teamed up with on the back 9 said they have been like that for several months, he said they did aerate a month ago and put seed on them to try and bring them back. Tee boxes were ok, 50/50, some were rough and uneven and some were flat, mostly the par 3's need some attention. Fairways are the only good thing on the course, most are in decent shape. Rough is too long, lost several balls just missing the fairways by a couple yards, I get it that you should be in the fairway but a couple yards off shouldn't constitute a lost ball. Sand traps are mud and dirt, don't think I saw any sand in them, thank God I didn't find any of them during my round. I didn't see any maintenance crew on the course when I was out there, seems they aren't doing anything with the course other than the morning jobs such as mowing greens or in this case dirt and the fairways. They are redoing the cart paths on #1,10,12, but let the greens die, doesnt make sense to me as a golf course but you be the judge! On #1 they have boards up so if youu hit it to the right side in the rough you have to drive all the way down the hole by the green and come all the way back, big inconvenience.

Restaurant is a mess but they are doing what looks like most of the work, had a guy sanding the front doors and the bathrooms for painting. Food was ok, service matched the greens, waited 15 minutes for food and nobody was in the bar, finally the head pro went and got an older lady who was suppose to be working the restaurant. She had nothing but an attitude as if I was lucky enough for her to be serving me. She was talking with some other people about the new owner and didn't seem as optimistic as the head pro, guess she doesn't trust him because she said that.

Overall there is a bunch of work that needs to be done and some seems to getting started. hopefully they can get the greens growing grass. Rate was good, some of the staff is really nice and some are the complete opposite. Golf course has to be in better shape for me to return or anybody that plays it now and sees what shape it is in. Too many courses in SD that are in better shape, actually all of them, dont mind paying more if the course is nice. Lets see if this new owner can get it back in better conditions. Used to play this course a lot in the past but it was in good condition back then. Skip the restaurant and the wait, attitudes and just bring you own food, if you want beer just go to the pro shop. Will check up on the reviews and see if its any better in the spring maybe try it again then. Not worth it now!!

In need of some tlc, experiencing some severe issues on the greens, looks to be some sort of turf disease, and the patchwork of repairs are insufficient. A couple of the tee boxes need some work, 10th comes to mind. The rough looks to be on its own; mowing schedule appears to be stretched. For $18 twilight rate you can easily look past these challenges and just enjoy getting out to close out the day. Paying anything more than that would be questionable given the area and options.

Early 4+ hour round on a fairly good course. Most tee boxes were in okay shape with a few slightly thin. The fairways have actually stayed green since my last visit here and have also softened up somewhat. Most fairways were cut short with the exception of the 16th where I found my drive exactly in the middle of the fairway in thick 4" rough?? What's up with that?? Maybe somebody forgot to mow that section! The rough was mostly thick throughout the round and made it very difficult to find balls. The greens were softer after the maintenance but very bumpy with MANY balls marks! The staff is always great and the vistas add to the experience also. The course has improved but still has some way to go before it is nice. The place was very busy which is encouraging to see!
