Played the year end GK event on Sunday, 12/13. Second time here, having played it a year ago, after days of rain with the course lush but wet. This year, the course was playing firm and dry. While the fairways were not as lush, they were extremely playable. It's not fair to compare this year to last, as the weather has a hand in them. Despite the heat they encountered during reseeding, I thought the course was in incredible shape. Tee boxes level, fairways almost lush, rough was lush and made you pay if you were in it, and bunkers had nice, fluffy sand. The greens were absolutely the best. A bit firm and a almost fast.

I didn't hit from the all grass range but I found the practice green in the same conditions as the course.

The food/beverage staff was incredible. The bartender (I wish I got her name) made an incredible Bloody Mary and the on course Snack Shack had a great selection of beers. The to go food was very good. Unfortunately the rear patio was closed but looked like would be awesome to sit on after the round.

I enjoyed Rams Hill more this year than last. I'm a huge fan of fast and firm and the course was very fun to play. Outside of the back to back par 3s at 9 and 10, I didn't find any holes the same. Worth a drive from either Palm Springs or San Diego (which is a really cool drive).

Played in the year-end GK Plays on Sunday. Great times with Circaflex, wsbell57, and colmcd. Huge thanks to Johnny and the sponsors for all the extra effort to make this event happen, despite trying circumstances.

Course conditions are mixed. Greens are fast, mostly smooth and accepting of full shots. Tee boxes and bunkers were great. The fairways and rough aren’t up to the usual Rams Hill standard, but still very playable. It seemed the course conditions had deteriorated a bit in the three weeks since I was here; wonder if the Ramateur took a toll on the course the previous weekend.

Always a great time at Rams Hill. Can’t wait to get back out there again!

Non-golf related note: For those who dread the long drive to get out there and might enjoy nature, I spent the early morning hiking The Slot Canyon in Anza Borrego, which is only about 15 minutes from the course and was a beautiful way to start the day. Thought I’d mention it as it might help some justify the drive knowing you can easily add another really cool experience to a day trip out and back.

Really appreciate all the reviews being posted here about our GK Plays Rams Hill Golf Club. What a fun day that was. I never had to put so much preparation into an outing given the unique circumstances of COVID-19 and recent CA state orders. Yet once again GKers came out to play and Rams Hill Golf Club went above and beyond to make us happy. Thank You!

I did not get to play a full round due to added tasks because we could not gather afterwards. I did however have a blast playing many holes alongside of GKers to give me enough experience to write a review.

First off from an organizer perspective Rams Hill Golf Club has an incredible golf course, facility and staff which why, without fail for years now, they host our year-end outing. You can bet we’ll be back next year.

From a playing perspective, it was hard to see what are normally immaculate rye grass fairways/rough in only decent shape due to out of the norm scorching October heat that not only impacted Rams Hill Golf Club but most desert golf courses that overseeded September/October. However the reminder of the golf course was in excellent condition and given the outstanding layout, scenery and overall ambiance of the place it, don’t the fairways/rough condition stop you from playing it. Greens are rolling smooth, bunkers immaculate and tee boxes in great shape.

I posted a recap of the outing in the forums and will be making social media posts on Instagram and Facebook. Again, thanks so much to all that played and our awesome sponsors Linksoul (golf apparel), Golf Moose (golf discounts), Royal Links (Vegas) and Kleen Kaddy (ball washer).

Played here on Sunday, 12/13 as part of the GK Event. This place is absolutely amazing!!!!

Range: Pure range. They use Pro V1 practice balls and the range was awesome. The grass was a little eaten up from previous folks warming up, but easy enough to find a sliver to hit on. Nice targets throughout the range and yardage to those are posted.

Clubhouse/Bar/Grill: Food is take out only, I had a deli sandwhich and a pulled pork sandwhich after. Both were pretty darn good; the home fries/home style chips are delicious.

Course: Overall not that difficult, there are areas to miss and you really shouldnt lose many balls. There are some holes with forced carry or water in front on a par 3; but overall pretty playable. The greens were really firm and had a lot of roll out on them; speeds were quick so you had to pay attention. Rough was nice and lush; some areas were thicker than others but still playable.

Pace of play was great, they have starters out there ensuring you go off at the designated time.

Highly recommend this course.

I played in the GK Event this past Saturday. We were the second group off and pace of play seemed pretty good, maybe 4:15 or so.

This is my third of fourth time at Rams Hill and I realized that this time seemed so much different than the rest. First, Covid kind of took away from some of the cooler aspects of Rams Hill, like hanging out on the patio and with the staff out there. I did get fantastic service at the restaurant/bar inside as I always do. It's just that its such a great spot to hang that I missed that.

Second, the weather was pretty incredible. It was weird playing with no wind at all out there (save for 1-2 "gusts") and the lighting with the clear air just was awesome. I thought that coupled with the brown, dormant bunker surrounds make the course visually better than I remembered.

Third, it was weird seeing the fairways in rough shape for Rams Hill. While I never really had a bad lie, they were nowhere near what they have been in the past. Seemed the rye really hadn't taken so maybe give it a little more time and it will be back to normal. The greens however were the best I've played there. Definitely firm and faster and that's my favorite kind. Bunkers I was in were great and never an issue on the tees.

I think I had more fun playing the course this time around than before. Just seemed like I appreciated the layout more this time around. Other than 11 and 18 I don't know if any other holes really stand out too much, but as a group it's just a fun golf course.

I did go down to the far end of the range for the first time and while there weren't any balls to hit they have an awesome short game area. I could hang out there all day.

I had a fantastic day out there and love Rams Hill. I absolutely recommend it to everyone. Just a killer golf experience.

I played in the recent event, first group out with Alex, Bob, and Ron. Great customer service as always. The course itself was not as nice as I remember it, but still very nice. Also, no chance of using their patio afterwards due to newer Covid restrictions on social gatherings, but blame the government not the golf course.

Greens: Initial impression is that the greens were mowed tight and were very tender. Someone had heavy feet and left cleat marks all over the place (practice putting green and all the greens in front of us). I tapped them down when I found them. The greens were running very pure, fast, and were receptive of most shots. I fixed quite a few ball marks here and there. No issues as far as quality of the turf here.

Fairways: There were a few areas that were somewhat thin, but overall it was great to hit from and there was good roll out. A couple areas had roped off GUR. One big plus is the fairways here are generous. It's almost all fairway in some areas.

Rough: Mostly good coverage and not too penal as it was all nicely mowed (at least in the areas I found). I almost always had a good lie.

Bunkers: The bunkers looked great; I did find one on the last hole as what I thought was a decent drive rolled out and to the right only to find a deep, sandy grave. The sand was a nice, light color and was of medium, fine consistency.

Tees: We played the blues and I did not notice anything other than great turf to hit from; level and good coverage.

I love the course; the layout and scenery is fantastic. Customer service is among the best anywhere. The food is really good. I would come back more if not for the 4-hour one way drive. Add in the really steep green fees and this becomes a once-a-year outing at best for me; however, as part of a big weekend of golf it's well worth it.

Met many others as well, including Jack16, all the way from Ohio! Good course, good service, good company, and good times! Thanks for organizing this event.

As a pilgrim, I played safe and shot below my handicap...so that also 'caps' my experience! That said, I will have way too much bias in rating this track. So let me just say, I will be back again, and recommend Rams Hill. Cheers,

Played here on 12/13/2020 as part of a GK Plays event and had a blast! I was paired up with Alan, Dean, and Peter and couldn't have asked for a better group, we joked, played hard, and commiserated with one another much more than we had hoped. I look forward to getting together with any of them in the future.

Now onto the course. Although limited, the customer service is top notch. They were all helpful, friendly, and just made you feel as though they wanted you to have a great time. All off our carts were lined up and had our names on them, for a comfortable, nice touch. I look forward to being here post Covid and experiencing them at the fullest.

I enjoyed the layout. There are a lot of sand traps but they are wonderfully maintained and very fair. Fazio did a great job of making things challenging but still fair. Typically there was more room than it originally appeared, but visually at times it was intimidating and demanded solid shots. The views of surrounding mountains and the valley were exceptional!

Tee boxes were in excellent shape, level, full coverage and with very little divot damage. Fariways were also in good shape although, in a few spots the tough weather season had taken a bit of a toll. Honestly though, not enough to affect the round terrible.

The greens were rolling medium fast and with multiple levels on most and plenty of undulation they were challenging but again, fair. I asked the rest of my group if they thought the greens were accepting shots well and they all shrugged their shoulders which didn't help much, but we had a good number of shots that hit a bit deeper middle of the green that jumped hard and ended up quite a way off the back. This isn't necessarily a complaint but something to adjust to and after about 15 holes I finally figured it out. (Guess that's on me).

I look forward to going back, it was a great place to play. Sadly it's quite a drive from Ventura County so will only go down there for an event, but I highly recommend this one as one of the nicest tracks in SoCal.

Played the blue tees in the GK event with Alex. Ron and Kevin. First time here and really enjoyed it. Pace of play was okay at 4.5 hours although it seemed longer as we waited on the two groups in front of us who were in no hurry (they played as a six or eightsome on 17). The service was generally good. The street tacos at the halfway house were a nice change of pace.

The course itself was generally in excellent shape. The fairways had some bare spots and one had a large section roped off where the bare spots had congregated. Generally, though, I had good lies. The rough was a factor if you were in it although the layout was pretty forgiving with many humps directing balls back into the short grass (or one of the many sand traps). The sand was great. Really nice hitting surface both in the fairway and greenside bunkers. The greens were tricky and interesting. They were quite firm. They rolled at a medium fast speed and one had to be careful on downhill putts.

The layout was interesting. As stated, it had some forgiving features. Some of the tee shots were visually intimidating and it turned out there was more room than appeared from the tee. Many times the tee and green were higher elevation than the fairway, and many of the greens were higher elevation than the fairway and tees, so I thought it played farther than the yardage on the card. It was tough at times to identify the dimensions of the areas on the green in which the flag had been placed because it was higher than the fairway. The GPS on the cart was helpful in that regard but not like knowing it. I could see local knowledge being very important in scoring well.

Can't wait to get out there again.
