I played in a Scga event here the other day. Wow what a secluded, gem of a golf course in Oceanside. If you have a chance to play here do it. You will not be disappointed. The surroundings are quiet except for the sound of nature. The layout is fantastic. Many approaches are uphill even if it doesn't look very uphill. The wind can swirl in this area making club selection and shot execution a challenge. They have one hole that can play as both a par 3 or par 4. Hit'em straight!!

Had an opportunity to play this private course yesterday. I play every once in a while with a group known as Mesa Golf Club here in San Diego and one of them, Robert, is a member at Vista Valley, so he was able to arrange 4 groups, we teed off in the first group at 9:20am on Sunday, 7/25. Great group of golfers.

Proshop wasn't very well stocked, but I managed to find a nice logo shirt for purchase anyway. Guy in the pro shop was very nice. Beautiful clubhouse, locker rooms, restaurant, all very nice.

Layout of the course is very fun and challenging. We played the whites and I can't wait to go back and play the tips. Totally different course from the back tees. Thanks to Robert for offering some local knowledge which is absolutely crucial. I still hit drives through a couple of fairways and had to punch out, so next time from the tips will be much more suited to my game. I could've/should've used a 4 wood or 3iron from many of the white tees.

Conditions for everything on the course were above average, but nothing stood out as super spectacular. The teeboxes were level and had decent coverage, but there was some divot damage, but not too bad. Fairways were fairly soft and had good coverage. Quite a bit of ground under repair, but it was well marked off. Rough wasn't very penal, fairly easy to play from. Found one bunker and it was nice, no complaints. Greens were definitely the highlight. They rolled fairly fast and very smooth. Held shots amazingly well, very soft and receptive. Guest fees were $85 for us and felt it was well worth it. Can't wait to get back out. If you get a chance to play, I recommend it.

11/18 will second the excellent reviews submitted by abbacat and Sparky14. Fairways in good autumn shape with good lies overall even with the occasional thin areas. rough was rather closely mowed and thick so mostly the ball would sit up. Bunkers had nicely compacted sand and looked to have been groomed earlier this day. Tees did have some thin areas.
Greens are the highlight with healthy cover generally in good condition, medium fast and mostly smooth. Many greens have multi levels and contours so some pin placements were quite challenging. Interesting scenic layout with a very remote feel even with houses in view.

And yes, Wendy birdied that same CTP hole yesterday! She owns that Par 3. Conditions are really nice. Greens and sand traps are excellent. Fairways and rough are better than I would expect give the "hidden valley" location - it cannot be easy to grow grass as sunlight has to be hard to come by in some areas. The back tees are at 6600 yards, but some holes are really tight and you had better be dead on with your tee shots. Lots of hidden shots and hidden troubles. Even if you don't play the back tees, go back and look at them as you get some great views of the holes and the area that you might miss from the forward tees. Strangest thing...I thought I had played there, but a quick search prior to the round on my spreadsheet said I had not been there. But when I drove into the parking lot, I could have sworn I had been to that clubhouse. Played the course, and it all felt new to me. Got back home and did some more searching...and yes I had played there in the 2015 SCGA outing. Very strange that I did not remember the course, because it is a very memorable course. I'm chalking 2015 up to an old man memory lapse. If you get a chance, definitely go, it is a really fun track.

I played today, joined by gary00, sparky14 and Kris. In May 2019, I won a foursome round in a member/guest outing. The only cost would be $20 cart fee per player, with the voucher being valid for a year. After my procrastination and then Covid19, the staff very kindly extended the redemption period to the end of this year. Check in was easy and then I spent a few minutes on the range. It’s small and was completely sanded, but good enough to loosen up. The carts are basic and comfy. There is no GPS but they do have a club/ball washer on board. Other than several of the gold tee boxes being unlevel, the conditions were very nice. The fairways were in great shape. I found only a few thin spots. The rough varied from very short to long enough to almost hide the ball. The one bunker I was in had very fluffy sand. The greens were beautiful, smooth and rolled a fast medium speed. They were a bit tough to read at times and we all missed several putts only by a blade of grass or two. The course is a challenge for sure! It’s hilly, has some severely sloped fairways, a few blind shots and very challenging greens. There is a creek that runs through a few holes. Having played here before was helpful on some of the more unusual holes. I did well on the front but some frustration set in on the back when I just seemed to lose all ability to hit the ball! If I ever get another opportunity to play here again, I wouldn’t hesitate. Recommended.

Had the opportunity to play this course yesterday after being invited by a friend. The course hidden in a nice community off the 76 near the 15 freeway.

Upon arrival you are greeted with friendly staff at the clubhouse and given directions to the amenities. Ran into some members who were very helpful with course tips.

Played the Blue tee but some holes are rated blue/black tees. Greens were nice and held shots. Their appearance was deceiving as hey looked quick but rolled slow. Fairways were nice and green, some were tight. Bunkers were tamped down sand and were hard.

So some of the holes had some weird layouts. Like #7 was a 45 degree dog leg left uphill. Hole #9 was a a beautiful elevated tee onto a tight fairway below. #13 was a blind shot downhill which required you to push a stop light when you leave the tee and to push it again when you leave the landing area. #14 was another elevated tee which was a either played as a par 3 or 4 depending on which tee box you used, also requiring you to use another stop light. #18 was a nice long par 5.

Course knowledge is a must. Enjoyable but some holes did not make sense.

I played yesterday in their Cinco De Mayo Member/Guest tournament. I and five friends were invited by a member whom I met about a month ago while playing at San Juan Hills. Cheryl was the organizer of the event. I was very excited to have this chance to play here. I’ve driven by it many times and it always looked so pretty.

From the moment we arrived, were made to feel very welcome. Our bags were loaded on our carts and then we spent some time on the small driving range and very hilly practice green. There was about an hour before tee time so we indulged in the complimentary margaritas, chips, salsa and empanadas. There was a taco bar outside for a small fee. Most of the members were there by this time. We had a great time just hanging out and meeting so many friendly people.

All guests were paired with members, which was very helpful on the course as there was no GPS on the carts (we did have ice chests and ball washers on board.) It was a shotgun start and we started on hole #5. As we took a wild ride shortcut across the course to our tee, we got a good look around. There is a creek that runs through most of the course, with steep hills all around.

There was a good variety of holes. There were a few shots over water and blind doglegs. There was a short par 4 on the back that took a good combination of accuracy and luck on the drive to hit the extremely narrow fairway with a big hill on the left sloping down to water on the right. There was a par 3 with a really crazy green. It was obvious that there would be some break toward the entrance road down below, but without the advice of our playing partners, we would never have realized that we had to aim our putts about 10 ft left of the pin! Another par 3 had a big sombrero painted on it. I was the first to land in it– about 12 inches from the pin.

The course conditions were good, not great. The fairways were mostly green, cut very short and a few had signs of recent punching. The tee boxes were neat and level. The greens were smooth but rolled a bit slower than I like. The bunkers were a little thin but the sand was good.

After the round we had a complimentary buffet dinner and drinks in the beautiful dining room. Afterwards, they announced all the winners. Well, it turned out that out of 66 players, only 2 hit that sombrero- I and one of my friends. Not a single member did lol. I got a very nice prize for that. It was a super fun day on a nice course. If you ever get a chance to play here, don’t hesitate. You’ll really enjoy it.
