Not sure there is a lot to say here...Camarillo Springs is, well Camarillo Springs. Played from the black tees and most holes it was hard to find level ground to hit from. Don't imagine they get a ton of play from there though so I can see why they wouldn't be too worried about putting the tee boxes in the best spot. Greens were in great shape. Probably the best I've seen them in years here. Fairways were thin but had just enough coverage to allow you to take a divot when needed. Definitely had to move my ball out of dirt patches and into grass a few times, from the middle of fairways though. Rough was patchy. Some holes had it, some didn't. Didn't expect a lot better than this from Cam Springs though. This course is pretty much cow pasture golf. Know what you're getting into and set your expectations ahead of time. The layout itself is alright, with a few fun holes coupled with some funky ones. They had a hot dog cart and a drink tent set up when we finished, but the restaurant is closed permanently. For $45 to walk on a Sunday morning though, can't complain too much here.

Had a playing lesson observing with a student today 9/30/23. POP riding was 4 hrs 25 minutes. Very friendly staff in the proshop. There is talk and a big sign by the 11th tee discussing the possibility of putting in homes, a walking dog park and reducing the layout to just 12 holes. Would be sad to see this happen as even though scruffy around the edges[get to that in a sec] the bones/layout is fun and the course with its cooler Camarillo climate and Mountain backdrop views are cool. One of the courses that has alot of memories for me growing up not to far from here. Will start with the good which were the greens. Not to many ballmarks and like the previous reviewer stated the greens were in very good shape rolling medium to quick as far as pace. Rated 8/10. The tees have always needed a leveling and today was no different. You can usually hunt for a level spot but here it could be tough to find. Ample coverage with minor divot damage on the par 3s. Rated 5/10 The fairways were a mixed bag. You could have a great lie, thicker crabgrass or a thiiner area all within a couple feet from each other. Rated 5.5/10 The bunkers looked crusty and thin but stepping in them and hitting some practice shots with my student they contained just enough of a sand base underneath to not have the club bounce. Rated 6/10 Rough like the fairways were inconsistent as far as fullness was concerned. There were sometimes nice areas in the rough, weeds, wet ground, etc. Rated 5.5/10 For us today being able to go out as a twosome and me being able to teach and observe it fit the bill perfectly. Not a course I can recommend but the staff is so nice, the greens are in good shape and the layout is fun I would pull the trigger for a twilight or super twilight rate.

This course is and will continue to be the absolute last resort choice. Tee boxes are inconsistent (and this being generous). The fairways were crispy so there was a ton of run out. The rough was thick in some places, crab grass in others and completely missing in some spots. Just overall inconsistent. The one, lone, single highlight here was the greens. They were actually in some if the best shape I've ever seen them in today. For $45 bucks walking it is definitely a last resort place.

Walked the blues this morning 2/21/22 with my buddy Matt joining a friendly 2 ball under colder and up to 2 club windy conditions. Our Pop was 4 hrs 50 minutes on a holiday. Never really ever remember seeing a scene in golf on the first tee like we did today? They were running 40 to 50 minutes behind which I guess is understandable as it's a holiday in Socal. What got them behind according to the starter and the murmurs from the 5 groups on the tee box waiting to play was not cool...jamming multiple groups of a men's club in the morning on a holiday morning between regular tee sheet groups??? Anyway we were lucky and joined the 855am group(due to 2 of their players not showing up)teeing off around 940am which was around our tee time but the two guys we were playing with got out about 50 minutes late. It was a circus people trying to cut in front of people. We then had a group that apparently started on hole 14 to avoid the men's club drive up to the first tee and demand to get on the first tee in front of the 5 groups that had already been waiting there for 35-45 minutes. It was amazing we got around in 4hrs 45 minutes pace of play and got off the first tee without fights breaking out. Really felt bad for the starter by the first tee they were totally disorganized. Always enjoyed the layout here and when I knew later in the week I could play this was the only tee time available for my buddy and I so we booked. To be honest Camarillo has been hit hard by poor conditions other than the greens which were super quick and beautiful. Greens were very fast and pure a pleasure to putt on. Downhillers were especially quick. Didn't see to many ballmarks. Perfect combination of holding irons with spin but putting or chipping brutally quick if you were short sided. I don't play here much but these are the nicest I have seen the greens. Rated 8/10 The fairways were embarrassing. Most had portions of Hardpan, thin lies and some even had some 4 leaf clover sections where the fairways used to be? The chipping areas in the Fairways just before the greens were poor as well. My drive on 15 just in front of the green had me sitting down in a bare hole just in front of the green. Rated 4/10 The tees were actually semi lush but most all tees need to be leveled and many contained tons of divots. Hard time finding a level spot. Rated 5/10 Was not in any bunkers so can't rate them. Most looked raked and firm. Rough was a mix of thin, hardpan, wispy or could be lush all in say a 5 yd area. The kikuya fringes here were actually in good shape all lush and green and thick. They grab chips pretty quickly so plan accordingly. Rated 7.5/10 Pains me to say for any golf course but can't recommend this one in its current shape. However the layout is fun with some challenging holes and the greens are in very good shape. All in all we had a blast playing the game we love despite the poorer conditions.

Was able to get out early today at Camarillo Springs. Rode the blues with two young men from New York, excellent partners on a Saturday morning. Finished in just about 4 hrs. A humid and calm morning, turned out to be much better than expected. In terms of conditions, this course is in better shape than the last time I played her a few months ago. The Tee boxes are bad, they are level but there is not much grass to hit from. The fairways are hit and miss, most of time you get a good lie, every once in awhile you might find some dry patches but it's playable. The rough is basically non-existent unless you are around the greens. The greens are soft and receptive, yet kept their speed. This was a decent surprise, as I thought this place was just going to quit on itself and fall apart. When I checked in the clubhouse starter explained that the city will vote in a few months as what they plan on doing with the property. It may in the end be saved as an 18 hole course. It might go to a 12 hole course with new housing, or it might get even worse and close for good. If you want to get out for one last round, now is the time. There were lots of people playing out there today, that is a positive.

Made it out to Camarillo Springs (2/21/21) . A warm and very windy morning through to the afternoon. A slow day to say the least. First off, Camarillo Springs at one point was a place I used to love to play. I had not played it for some time and was eager to test it out. I had heard all sorts of stories about what was happening here. Is it going to 12 holes, will it be shut down permanently, or will it be restored? As I checked in, the clubhouse is basically empty, indicating that a change is coming soon. After checking in I putted on a recently punched practice green that seems to be much smaller than I remember. Before teeing off I spent some time talking with the starter. Who indicated that the plan was to develop the property into a 12 hole course, however recently a new investor has plans to restore the course and is even considering turning it into a private access course. He claimed that there is much optimism from this investor that a restore without becoming private is still on the table. This course needs help sooner than later. I am saddened by how far this course has fallen. The Tee boxes are completely with out grass and not level. The fairways at times are playable but are very thin. The sand is a mix of dirt and rocks with occasional mud. The rough is not rough, very thin grass and full of rocks. The greens are about the only thing on this course that is taken care of, I would rate them a 6/10. Just above average. The driving range is falling apart as well. The side netting has some holes and the back netting is now almost completely gone. Hole 13 sits well within range for you to get whacked while teeing off. The massive pole holding up one of the nets has fallen down and it seems like it has been there for some time. The saddest part of this story is that Camarillo Spring has so much potential, truly a great piece of land that with just a little bit of love and money could become gem, but it could also become just another housing complex.

Here goes; Terrible! First off, about the only Pro was senior rate (55 years old, $55) on weekend. Range, on mats, open. Not something I'm usually picky about, the Tee boxes are awful. Dips & slants, no level areas on most & torn up on the Par 3's. The fairways have lots of dirt patches, gopher holes & weeds. The Rough is a mix of dirt/high weeds & short weeds. Lakes are mostly empty sometimes with a swampy mixture in the middle. The Greens are the best thing about the course. They do need a roll, bumpy, thick & slower.
The Pro shop has poster sized prints of the "future Camarillo Springs" including housing development & a 12 hole Golf course. The staff is doing what they can, Owner has decided to not put $$ in. The plan is to close it in about a year & build. I won't be back to one of my favorite tracks unless desperate for a Sat time again. It's a shame!

Played 6/12/2020 - first round under COVID-19 conditions and first time at this course. I walked and enjoyed it despite the problems as described in other reviews and below. I guess this course re-opened a while back after a long period of closure while the owners tried to develop it for housing. If so, it has a way to go to full restoration. Dried up lakes, burnt out fairways and untamed rough are just some of the issues. But the bones are there for a great course. It's walkable - important nowadays - the layout is interesting with more altitude changes than you might think, the surrounding scenery is on a par with many of the Palm Springs courses and the climate there is so much better than the IE or the Valleys. Check in was simple and social distancing was easy to achieve. Masks were about 50/50 worn. Driving range is acceptable, putting green less so. Greens were, in general, OK. A portion of the back nine where the lakes still had water and the grass seemed lusher give you an idea of how good this course could be. If I hear things are improving, I'll be back and consider it as an occasional option to Olivas Links when I'm in the Oxnard ares.
