Played Founders nine in a league in the late afternoon on Monday, 6/2/2008, on a sunny breezy day. Greens were punched 2 weeks ago and are bumpy and dry with obvious holes - need more water and TLC. Any putt was a crapshoot. Tees OK, sand OK, fairways thin but playable.

Played in the late afternoon on Thursday, 5/8/08, on a sunny breezy day. Previous posts had been negative on conditions, but came down to check conditions because I’m in an afternoon league that starts next week. Bummer conditions – they are getting into their aeration cycle, and despite having 27 holes we were dumped onto one of the nines (Desert) that looked like it had been punched that morning! With 3 nines, why is that necessary? And about half the holes in the greens didn’t even have any sand in them – like putting across a cheese grater. Fairways on Desert were thin and dry, tees recently rebuilt were thin but acceptable, sand OK. This is the newest nine here and plays up, down, and across a gentle slope, exposed to wind, and has desert rough and bushes./rocks bordering the fairways, so not much margin for error if you miss the fairway, and often impossible to recover behind rock chunks and big bushes. Second nine (Founders) runs through houses and is primarily flat and straight. Greens had not been punched and were very firm and fast. Tees recently rebuilt with thin grass, fairways had been disked. No GPS, no yardage book – colored stakes along the fairway. Water available, no cart girl, no ranger. Many better choices in the Vegas area.

this course is garbage, better to doze it and build condos. Marshalls drove all over the restricted areas but yelled at the golfers that did. Every green was protected by 2 bunkers one left and one right, boring. course is just not taken care of and aver crowded. i can not understand why so many people were playing there. the last two holes on the founders side were decent but that was it. save your money.

I got my only double eagle here so I can't complain too much. It is an old course and the three nines are pretty much the same. You can find deals to make the course a value.

not a great course, but not a bad course. I expected better since its close to las vegas, but it is one of the oldest course out there.
If you want to play golf in the las vegas area and dont want to pay much, this is the place. Just dont expect lush fairways, scenic views, good greens and etc...

Played Founders/Horizon on Sun morning. Old school course, flat with some trees and small greens. Good pace of play, lots of members .Basic muni type course with friendly staff, needs better upkeep. Not bad for the $

I took out of town guests to this course on Saturday, and was completely embarrassed. The golf course was in bad shape. No map on the score card or sign to direct those unfamiliar with layout. The $60 green fee was a ripoff.

A good course that needs better maintenance and upkeep.
Good Value for Associate (weekday) members.

I've been a member of Black Mountain for 4 Months. It's not the best course I've played, but it also not the worst. It's a decent, fair course. There are some improvements that could be made, mostly in the maintenance area. But, the positives outweight the negative. It has a friendly staff and usually good pace of play. Don't expect an immacualte course like Bears Best, because you're not paying $200 for a round of golf. Usually it's less than $30. You get what you pay for.

I played on 12/17/05 and it is the worst course i ever played in my life. It was a waist of my time and a waist of 65 dollars.

Played the old nine and desert...1st had recently been overseeded, and 2nd had yet to be seeded - but wasn't too difficult...had to work to get in trouble even with a stiff breeze blowing throughout. The price was fair, and worth it compared to some of the other overpriced courses in Vegas.

I recently joined Black Mountain. $200 a Month for unlimited golf Monday through Thursday. Three nines, the oldest built in 1957 (Founders) and the newest 2002 or 2003 (the Desert). Not a long course, but small greens on the Founders call for accurate shots to the green. The Dessert has tight fairways which call for accurate drives. Each nine is slightly different, which is nice. The speed of the greens are different on each nine, so it takes a little adjusting. Very friendly staff, and usually good pace of play, except Friday - Sunday.

Played 9/8/05 at 4PM on a windy Thursday. 27 holes here - played Desert and Horizon nines. Scattered twosomes on the course, and never waited except on 1 hole. Resort-style semi-private course is basically a muni - similar conditioning, a zillion ball marks on the greens, etc. Yardage guide in the cart, plus yardage posts and some sprinkler heads - no GPS or yardage book. Desert nine very narrow with "natural" areas separating holes, and some in-course OB. OK price and pace for average conditions. No cart girl at that time of day.

A GOOD COURSE FOR THE MONEY, I PLAYED FOUNDERS/HORIZON. THEY DO KEEP THE COURSE IN GOOD CONDITION, THOUGH THERE ARE A FEW BARE SPOTS THROUGHOUT THE COURSE, BUT STILL A VERY NICE COURSE. FAIRWAY ARE MOWED TIGHT, AND ROUGH ABOUT 1-3". GREENS ARE A TRUE ROLL, AND IT DOES ROLL TOWARD THE STRIP. PLAY DURING THE WEEK BETTER PRICE DEALS AND PACE IS MUCH BETTER.

played last week. this course is a good municipal for the local golfer in contrast to the vegas resorts. pretty straightforward for a low round. the new nine is quite different from the rest of the old course. their website makes it look more appealing than it really is.

black mountain is almost always in decent shape. the course is fairly old so there are many mature trees that can provide much-needed shade during the hottest months. the course isn't very long, but it has a few challenging holes. for the best value, play twilight, which generlaly allows you (if you tee off early enough) to play all 27 holes.
