Played on Wednesday, 6/22, 2pm-ish tee time, with an invite from a member. Played the Sunrise - Canyon 9s (Lakes is the other).

Everything you would expect from a private club from start to end. Excellent customer service with a super friendly staff. Course was in great shape. Tee boxes were level with little amount of divot damage. Fairways were running firm and fast, with no thin areas. Rough was about 1 inch, just enough to cause an issue with hitting the ball. Bunkers were filled with soft fine sand. Greens were running fast and smooth, but a couple on the Canyon 9 had some worm issues they were working on.

I always jump at the opportunity to play here. 27 hole Robert Trent Jones Jr design, which was one of the first of the 80s Vegas golf expansion. The course winds through a gated neighborhood but the houses are not in play. All 3 9s have a different feel and no holes are repeated.

Played Friday, 3/18, with the Cocky and Lucky Golf & Social Club. The Robert Trent Jones Jr designed course has 3 9 hole courses and we played Lakes/Sunrise (Canyon is the other). Lakes lives up to it's name with water on 6 of 9 holes, and Sunrise is routed along the east side of the complex. The Spanish Trail community and course was the first big expansion in Vegas in the mid 80s, but the course doesn't feel 40 years old. Pace was a bit slower than my last time here, finishing in about 4.5 hours, with a single joining us on the back 9, on a very busy March Madness Vegas weekend.

The course is starting to bloom with the Spring weather. The dormant Bermuda rough is starting to wake up and and there's spots of green popping up. Bunkers are decent with some medium/heavy sand, but 1 green side was pretty thin (at least where I was hitting from). Fairways were lush, with plenty of roll but some cushion underneath. Greens were on the slower side of medium, but smooth and consistent through both 9s.

This may be a course through a residential neighborhood, but it is a tough test. The white tees (6400-6500 yards depending on the 9s) average 135 slope and the course can tip out at 7100 yds, 74.4/144. The course was recently bought by the owner of Southern Highlands so interested to see if there is any major changes. Initiation fees have already gone up in the last month. The course is currently strictly private and I expect it will stay that way, but if you can get on, it's absolutely worth it.

Played on Sunday, 2/6, thanks to an invite with a buddy from Cocky & Lucky Golf and Social Club. Course had a frost delay but by noon was all caught up and we actually got out 20 minutes early. Course is completely private now, after some "semi-private" times. Customer service is what you would expect from a high end course, super friendly, and drink cart was around multiple times.

Course is dormant right now but it didn't really affect play. Plenty of cushion in the fairways, and they had some run to them. The rough was cut down so it was like extra wide fairways. Bunkers were amazing, just perfectly groomed and soft, fluffy, pro tour like sand. Greens were a bit firm early, but as the temps warmed they became bumpy with shoeprints everywhere.

A fantastic experience and would take any opportunity to play here again. Course has 27 holes designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, and each 9 has a different feel (Sunrise, Canyon, Lakes). Clubhouse is huge with a large patio overlooking the range. Range is all grass and has a large putting green.

Great golf course with a great clubhouse, bar and dining area.

Chipping and putting area is great as well and when we played there, we used the mats on the range, which was ok.

Golf course itself is fun to play and very straightforward. Lots of hidden hazards so be careful when choosing a club and try to a play to a specific number.

The rough is penal. In some cases, you will lose 20 yards trying to get out when the ball is sitting down in the rough. In certain cases, it's better to be safe than sorry and then try to get to the green with a mid to long iron.

Played today with John_T, his dad, and brother in law for $59 at 7am. Spanish Trail CC opened in the early 80s as an exclusive neighborhood club with 27 holes designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr and served as one of the courses for the Vegas PGA Tour stop for a few years. The club was strictly private, but has opened for public play in the past 10 years or so. No reservations on their website, need to call for available tee times. Played in 4:15, no one in front, and a foursome behind us that would be close on one hole, then disappear for 3. Did not see a lot of groups out. Customer service matched the private club atmosphere. After checking in at the guard gate, you pull into the parking lot where you can use the manned bag drop or valet your car. If you park first, they drive out and pick up you and your clubs. Walking around the clubhouse and locker room, I was greeted by everyone, from the employees to the members. Drink cart was around 4 times during the round. Large driving range with practice balls ready to hit. There was also a nice putting green and a separate chipping/bunker area. Course was in dog days of summer condition but still very good. Course was very wet in some areas, making it humid with no breeze. Tee boxes were all level and I can not remember seeing divots. Fairways had some brown and thin areas, but mostly lush green manicured grass. The rough was brutal. Thick, gnarly, just get it out and back in the fairway in most areas. Both green side bunkers I was in had fluffy sand and appeared to be in good shape. Greens were awesome. Appearance wise, they showed signs of lot of unrepaired ball marks growing back, but they were fast and smooth as glass. Overall, I think it's an easy 8 (or higher) out of 10. Definitely one of my favorites now and will be back to play. Price was high compared to summer rates around town, but worth it for me.

Out in Las Vegas for a work trip until next week and braved the 115 degree heat to play a twilight round at Spanish Trail CC. Played the Lakes and Sunrise 9s for $65 with a cart as a single with no one else around until I caught a threesome at start of the Sunrise 9 and they let me pass.

Of course in that heat those were the only people I saw all day so I finished in just under three hours, which is probably the limit of what I could handle under that hot sun.

The homes around the course are really impressive and cool to take in along the way, and what I like about the course is that its features don't even try to fake being natural. The waterfalls and lakes are over the top architecturally and don't bother to hide their true nature. This isn't some course built on pristine land or anything - it was carved out amongst the mansions and serves its purpose well.

Not a lot of elevation anywhere, but some of the fairways are surprisingly undulating and the entire course has a bunch of PGA West-esque mounds of awesomeness to guarantee you that flat lies are at a premium. There is also a good deal of water to contend with around these two 9s.

As for the conditions, I did not find them quite as glorious as the last review. In fact, despite a nice roll and good surface on the greens, many had burn-out spots and a slew of bird deposits and strange little dirt mounds all over the place - no idea what those were. It was also weird once when I was fixing a ball mark on the green and patting it down with my putter, I could almost feel a little bouncy, trampoline effect just under the surface. Never experienced that before.

The fairways though were in pretty nice shape with a few dried out areas here and there. Rough was lush and nice to hit from. Bunkers were pretty good too, as were the tee boxes. So yeah, overall it was pretty fun to play, and definitely a challenge with plenty of bunkers to go around to boot. Better be sharp - easy to get in trouble.

Service at the clubhouse was good but of course that late in the day there was no cart service, but they were kind enough to add in extra waters in the ice buckets to make sure there wasn't a corpse-shaped ash pile greeting them somewhere on the course tomorrow morning - yes, it was that hot. What was I thinking? Oh yeah, I love golf.

The beautiful Spanish Trails was all I heard about before playing here, and it was. The- most- pleasurable greens I have putted on in a while existed here. They know smooth and true rolling greens in speeds of 11/12. I LOVE their greens!! The whole course layout and composition are a treat to play like I wouldn't get tired of playing here for the rest of my golfing life. I've enjoyed it here very much.

The fairways were neatly cut in tight lies, green and lush, it ran pretty good, too. Teeing grounds were fine, the bunker i was in was nicely prepped. The roughs in some areas were very healthy, but in most cases, not punitive.

The beverage cart came around more towards our back 9 which was fine, and the staff at the pro shop were attentive and accommodating.

I can't wait to play here again.

When I went to UNLV, this was a premier club, that always had excellent conditions and service. I think the economy is taking its toll, and not enough residents of the community are members. It was 100% private in the early 2000's, and around the recession time, they opened up a few public tee times. Now they offer tee times pretty much throughout the day.

I loved this course back around 2001-2003ish, but it isn't in that shape anymore. The Lakes 9 is still a fun track, with water hazards on every single hole! Some holes have multiple water hazards!
So I really like the layout - all 27 holes.
But now for today's conditions:
Tee boxes are flat, but not the most well-groomed.
Fairways are great. Hard and fast, with great lies.
The rough is patchy, dried out, spotty, and dormant in some places, and not dormant in others. Kinda weird.
The bunkers had hard compacted sand. And no rough around them to save any type of shots. If it's headEd towards a bunker, no chance of staying out of it.
Greens were ok. Not sure the type of grass, but it's very "matty" - if that's a golf term, haha. Overall, this is a good facility, and 20 years ago it was a premier club in Las Vegas. I hope things can get back to where they were.
The beverage cart came around a few times, and everyone was friendly, but you could tell they had a "skeleton" staff working - not many employees around. No starter. No Club wiper at the end. These are things that are standard at Las Vegas courses. But they do give you plenty of bottled water!

I booked this tee time on Golfnow.com and got a real good deal early in the morning. Second group off August 11th. This is a semi private course that offers limited outside play. They have three nines. We played the Lakes/sunrise combination.

This place has a country club feel and I've actually spoken with a previous member who left because they opened play to outsiders. The staff were very friendly and attended to our clubs from parking lot at arrival to parking lot at departure. Range balls were included and the range was nice but we were hitting of mats which I do not like.

The course is located in a very posh neighborhood and you are routed around and through many large expensive homes. Nice to look at.

The tee boxes were level and well kept. Very little divot damage. The course is long and the slope/rating was 71.2/136 from the whites! So we were hitting long irons/hybrids into many greens.

The rough was ragged and thick so you definitely wanted to be in the fairway. When you were in the fairway it was like carpet. Very well maintained.

The greens were in great shape with just a little bit of pitch mark damage. No bare spots and were very true with moderate speed. There were some greens that were very large and required you to be on the correct level to score well.

The sand was awesome. I say that tongue in cheek as I was in the sand often. But it was soft and deep and very consistent.

I would play this course again and recommend it to others. If you have a chance to play here go for it, you will enjoy it and the challenge is real.

Cart girl came around 3 times in 18 holes. I appreciate that as some Vegas courses don't provide a beverage service until around 10am. There were no water stations on the course but each cart had two coolers with two bottles of water in them.
