Great time enjoying a holiday season round with KevBig, John_T and rob1563 from Vegas on Sunday 12/27.

It was fun to circle back here to play the golf course in winter shape compared to summer shape. I picked the hottest time of year in July and the coldest time of the year in December – LOL. The golf course plays different with exception to the fairways being in very good shape both times of year. In the summer we had brutal lush bermuda rough, in the winter the rough is all dormant. Take a look at my photos as the contrast between the fairways and rough is gorgeous out there. KevBig mentioned in his review the contrast creates optical illusions as far as distances at times and I agree. The tee boxes were lush. We played the gold tees which were being renovated in the summer (I enjoyed the course more from the gold tees instead white tees). The highlight of the round were the greens. I liked them much better this around being faster than in the summer. Those are some tricky greens with multiple tiers at times. The only negative are the bunkers having poor sand quality. I attribute some of that to COVID-19 protocol. Also in the summer they were removing some of them so my guess is the bunkers are a work in progress.

As far as the layout, I liked it even better this time than in the summer. It’s a very fun layout to play with great views of the desert, forced carries over water, risk/reward par 5’s and some par 4’s, mostly flat and a fantastic one-two punch finishing holes (Hole 17 & Hole 18).

They have nice grass range and short game practice area. Service in the proshop and on the golf course was excellent. Highly Recommended.

Played Mojave yesterday with Johnny, Rob, & John and had an absolute blast. I don't get to play as much as I want any more so it was awesome to hang out with the fellas. It was my first time playing Mojave and I heard all about the nightmarish summer Bermuda rough. Thankfully, it's winter now and the bermuda is dormant and does a wonderful job of framing the lush deep green overseeded fairways. I would say that all aspects of the course are in good to very good winter conditions. Yellow tees have full coverage although some are slightly unlevel. Not a big deal at all. Rough as mentioned is dormant bermuda and not penal except for some bunker surrounds. I was in several bunkers and and found them all to be playable with a good amount of sand. Fairways were very nice overseeded Rye and provided a great hitting surface. Greens were firm but receptive. They rolled slower than they looked but were consistent and true. Some of the pins were in some "fun" locations yesterday lol.

Service was minimal but friendly. The usual in the Covid world of golf. I found the course to be quite visually deceiving. The distances to fairway bunkers, doglegs, and end of fairways had our group scratching our heads several times throughout the round. But it was a really fun time and I would love to play here again. Played 7-26-20 with Alex, John, and Vince mid morning in a GK Plays, getting around the course in about 4 hours. Tee boxes were being worked on so markers were moved around, but they were in decent shape for the most part. Fairways were in nice shape, mostly green with nice lies and good roll out. Rough was mostly 3-4 inches of thick grass with some areas even a little longer. Was in one greenside bunker that had a decent amount of brown sand, and fairly easy to hit from. Greens were in good shape, holding shots and rolling mostly smooth but very slow. Mostly flat walkable course with a nice layout and a few water hazards coming into play on some holes. Would recommend playing if in the area.

It had been 12 years since I played Mojave Resort Golf Club and in that time frame I have read the reviews and driven by the golf course periodically on my way to Bullhead City. It’s had its ups and downs in that time frame. I visited the golf course last year after they made a management change and again in March. It’s definitely trending upward so I decided to do a GK Plays outing there despite the typically very hot temps in Laughlin NV in late July. I’m glad I did. The golf course was in very good summer shape and I forgot how fun the layout is. We have a GK Coupon posted here on Greenskeeper.org for just $25 for 18 holes w/cart – that is a fantastic bargain to play this golf course.

Our GK Plays outing had a small turnout but we definitely enjoyed ourselves on Sunday. My first outing there and certainly will plan on more. Staff treated us very well and since we teed off early we did not feel the effects of the heat much. I really like the Par 3’s out there which 3 of the 4 feature have forced carries over water. The Par 5’s are a blast too with many opportunities to get home in two. Throughout the round we were treated to beautiful views of the surrounding Mojave Desert. Another nice plus is they have a beautiful grass driving range to warm up on. I posted some photos so please check them out.

The only drawback is the trailer used as a clubhouse if you wanted to do a big outing. However they will make arrangements for temporary structures to accommodate large groups.

As far as conditions, the golf course was summer lush with excellent fairways and deep rough. I’m still having nightmares trying to find our groups golf balls on hole 10, LOL. The tee boxes for the white and some gold tees were predominately closed due to a level/sod replacement project taking place. We played most of our round from the green tees. Next time playing the course I want to experience it from the gold tees. The greens were slower than expected but I’m guessing that is out of necessity this time of year with average high temps around 110. I’d like to experience the greens when they are rolling faster however they did roll smooth. Bunkers is where the golf course needs the most improvement and upon talking to the management this is a main focus. Many of the fairway bunkers are being removed this summer which explains why some of them had grass currently growing in them during play Sunday. Greenside bunkers had decent sand but there is room for improvement as far as grooming. Overall, considering the time year I was very happy with the shape of the golf course.

Laughlin/Bullhead City attracts lots of water recreation visitors being right on the Colorado River. It’s definitely worth your while to bring your golf clubs for an early morning round at Mojave Resort. And if you are a group organizer it’s worth your while to have an outing there as well.

I made the trek from the upscale surroundings of Lake Las Vegas to the friendly confines of Laughlin. It was a real treat to play with Alex, Johnny, and Ron. Three of the nicest fellows with whom you'd ever want to play a round.

The layout of Mojave resort is very fun. Not too difficult, but there are enough demading shots to make you think. The tee boxes were under reconstruction, so some tees were unavailable. The fairways were in good summer shape. The rough was ridiculously long in places (not sure why). Bunkers were not well maintained, but Covid is much to blame for that. The greens had fine coverage, but were as slow as any I have played in recent memory.

I also want to address the rumor that two members of our group got their carts stuck in some soft sand ... but, I won't. All in all, another great day playing golf with a bunch of golf buddies I met through gk. Thanks, Johnny!

I decided at the last minute to extend my trip and join the other GK’ers on day three at the Mojave Resort Golf Course. I had never played it before so I wanted to see what it was like. When you first pull in you see a mobile home style trailer for a pro shop and you think, uh oh this is a resort course?! Then the kid comes out to greet you and assist with your bag which is always a nice touch. Pro shop is bare bones for sure but the staff is super friendly. Range is an all grass range located right behind the pro shop so no hiking 3 miles to hit just a few warm up shots. That was nice.

The course is flat so it could easily be walked (at least in the winter when temps are normal). We all had our own carts per COVID guidelines. The layout of the course starts out with some nice holes on the front nine but nothing to exciting. There was a nice par 3 with water on the right (a lake it shares with a par 3 on the back nine).

The back 9 becomes a fun course with water hazards on a few of the holes, a drivable Par 4 (for healthy people) and even a sand dune for off roading. OK, so maybe that was just our group that decided to go Dune bugging in the sand. I can honestly say, that will all of the courses I’ve played, I’ve never had my heart rate beat as fast as it did at Mojave Resort!

Condition wise the course is what you would expect for a place of this caliber in the middle of the summer. Fairways were better than expected. Nice and lush, green, no dead/thin spots and easily rated in the 7-8 range. A lot of the tee boxes were under construction during our play. They were completely ripped up and looks like come fall new sod will be put down. Because of that a lot of the tee boxes were combined. It actually worked out perfect for me because I had already decided to create my own combination of tees and move up on about 5-6 of the holes. Those happened to be the ones that the course was remodeling and had moved the tee box forward.

Greens were on the slow side. Hard to say if they were actually slow or just medium-slow pace but after Cascata felt like they rolled super slow. Given that our group had 8 birdies, they obviously weren’t too bad.

Rough was just that. Rough and super tough! It was easily 4+ inches deep and a bear to escape from. Bunkers weren’t bad at all. Not super fluffy but enough sand to escape from with a proper sand shot. I was in three and was 2 over for those three holes which in my world is good!

The course finishes with two great holes full of water hazards. 17 is a par 3 with the green guarded by a lake in the front and 18 is a par 4 which has you negotiate water off the tee and then on the approach shot into the green.

A definite go to course when in the area or as we did add it to the end (or beginning) of a trip.

Played the GK Plays event on Sunday 7/27. Another fun GK event a great little get-together. I appreciate the staff allowing us to go out as a 5some so we could play in 2 groups.

Conditions were what I would expect for Laughlin in July. Fairways were pretty good with no dead areas. Rough was just outrageously high. You really had to see where you went in to have a chance to find it and just chop it out, no way of really advancing it. Bunkers had about 4-6 inches of loose fluff before hitting some hard packed. Greens are a bit slow this time of the year, need some length to keep them alive and after a weekend of fast greens was a tough adjustment. They are rebuilding a tee box on each hole, so they combined the markers. Its one of the those things that are a bit of inconvenience but will be greatly appreciated when teeing off level ground instead of mounds.

Overall, I liked the course. Pretty straight forward with everything in front of you. The holes don't repeat and there's a variety of short and long. I loved the drivable 16th, just let it rip. The signature 17th par 3 is definitely tricky when the wind is coming into you. With the current GK coupon, easily well worth playing while in the area.

Played Mojave Resort on a recent trip to the Avi Casino for a wedding. I went out as a single (the wife rode along) in the late afternoon and finished in less than 3 hours.

This course checked all the boxes for me.

Layout - Fun layout in my opinion. The course is pretty straight forward but you do not feel like you are playing the same hole over and over again. I really enjoyed the finishing holes - 16-17-18. All three are great holes and look like they could be challenging, especially is the wind picks up. Each has water waiting for any errant shot. Great holes. A lot of the greens have run off areas so if you are slightly off on your approach, it could go down the slope and end up 10 yards from the green.

Condition - I thought the condition was great. The fairways and areas around the green are very closely mowed so you have to be very precise with the short game. Tee boxes were in good same. Fairways were excellent - not a bad lie all day. Fairways are pretty generous even though a few holes on the back 9 do run through a housing community.

If you are ever staying at the Avi or are in the area, I highly recommend this course. It is very close to the Avi Casino (almost walking distance). I was going to go up and play Laughlin Ranch instead of the Mojave Resort Course, but do to time constraints, I was not able to. I was not disappointed and I was actually pleasantly surpised. Go check it out - you will enjoy it. I would definitely play it again if I was in the area.

On to Mojave Resorts (avi Casino) After Laughlin Ranch we were able to make the 2:00 twilight. Although not as visually stimulating, the conditions were absolutely in great shape especially the greens. As smooth and pure as one can ask for. There was only a foursome in front of us when we finally caught up to them after the 9th hole to which they let us by for a solid 3 hr cruise around the 18. With the research prior to the weekend, it seems these 2 places had the best conditions. So we'll be back for next years run.
