I was in San Antonio for training and had Friday off. I decided to play La Cantera-Palmer. The course is Troon managed and it shows from the customer service to the golf course.
I didn't play very well this day but I thought the course was very challenging. The course definitely plays longer than the stated yardage. I'm normally comfortable playing the tees we played but today it was a big challenge. The course follows the terrain of hills and canyons. It's beautiful from a visual standpoint but very hard to decide where to go with the ball. The course has some great views looking into downtown San Antonio and the surrounding areas.
The course itself was in good condition. Some of the fairways were almost muddy with a lot of watering done on them. The greens were in great shape and were faster than what I am used to in AZ but they were all consistent during the round.
I thought some of the holes were great and some really messed with your head as far as where to hit the ball. One par 5 basically had a blind tee shot and a blind second shot. I think playing the course multiple times would yield a better score.
This was the first time I played golf in San Antonio and it was a great experience at La Cantera.
