Played Lake Spanaway yesterday morning, 8/2/14. Got out as a twosome, and joined the two in front of us on #6, as the three in front of them wasn't exactly quick. Conditions were reasonable, although you can see that they really haven't completely recovered from the fungus issues they were having over the winter. Greens did roll ok, although they were very slow, and a bit bumpy. They really would hold any shot, on a longish par 3 (about 190 yds) my 4 hybrid actually backed up about a foot. Fairways were good, but the rough was very spotty, super dry and non existent in some places, long, wet, and lush in others. Tee boxes weren't very good, the par 3's were especially bad. Bunkers were inconsistent, some kind of damp, heavy and thick, others very thin. It's unfortunate, because this place really could be great. The layout is really good, very interesting even if a little bit easy. It's got enough length if you want it, and trouble in the right spots. If only they could get the conditioning to match.

Played Lake Spanaway yesterday morning, and had a really good time. Greens were better than I've ever seen them, but that's changing as they are punching today. Fairways were in very good shape, considering how dry its been, and the rough was almost non existent. Tees had just been punched, so they weren't so hot, and the 2 traps I found were a little on the thin side. Quality of the greens and fairways really did make up for anything else the place was lacking. Spanaway's a neat layout, a classic northwest kind of place with trees lining just about every hole, making finding the fairways really important. When they've recovered from punching their greens, I'll definitely be back.
