Played West Seattle this past Monday morning (5/14/18) for the first time in a while and found the place to be pretty much as expected. We've had a good bit of dry weather here in the northwest, so things are firming up. Greens were still holding a well struck shot, but you were most likely getting a fair bit of release on longer clubs, and anything that wasn't spinning well. They rolled ok, a little bit slower than I would like, and a bit bumpier as well. Fairways offered lots of roll, and were a bit thin. Rough was very nice, and the bunkers looked great, although I didn't find any so I'm not exactly sure how they played. Tee boxes were definitely good enough, a flat spot could be found and only the par 3's had significant divot damage. Pace was good for our foursome (2 walking, 2 riding) never having anyone in front of us and only getting pushed on the last couple of holes. I think we got around in just about exactly 4 hours. The price was right as well, as it cost me only $28 to walk. I've had rounds here that I've loved, and rounds here that I've hated, I think this one landed right in the middle. It was good to get out to somewhere I hadn't played in awhile, yet at the same time I probably was hoping for a little bit better.

Played West Seattle yesterday morning (7/31/16) and had a very enjoyable time. Our foursome (3 walking, 1 riding) teed off a few minutes past our 7:07 tee time, and played the blues in a little bit over 4 hours. There was a wait here and there, but nothing too bad at all. Conditions were solid across the board, but the highlight was the greens. They all rolled very nicely, quite true and consistent at a medium to quick pace. It did take a few holes to get used to them, as the larger of their 2 practice greens (the one that I used for quite a while before the round) was a little bit slower than the course. Well struck shots held, but anything else would release a bit. All other areas, fairways, rough, tees, and traps, were good as well. A couple of my playing partners complained that the traps were thin, but the 3 that I found (1 fairway, 2 greenside) were quite consistent, with soft heavy sand that behaved how I would expect. Of all of the Premier managed municipals here in the Seattle area, I think West Seattle's been the best this season.

Enjoyed a very nice round at West Seattle this morning. Teed off at 7 am as a three with a couple of friends, let a single through on #2, and never waited or was pushed after that, finishing in about 3 and 1/2 hours. Overall conditions were very good, greens on the firm side, only holding a well struck shot. They did roll very nice, true at a medium fast pace. Fairways and rough good, as were the tee boxes. I found both the fairway and green side bunker on #1, and both had great sand. I found a couple others as well, and they were just as good. Conditions here are really nice, and will only get better between now and July 4, when they hold the Seattle amateur. The layout can still give me fits, I feel like the first 13 holes here are as good as any public track in Washington, but after that it gets ridiculously hard, without feeling fun. Holes 14 through 17 here require absolutely perfect shots, merely good ones get seriously punished and that can just leave you feeling so disappointed as you walk up 18. The quality conditions at a fair price ($40 to walk) made it all good today, but there times when those four holes can just wreck the day.

Played West Seattle this morning, teeing off about 5-10 minutes late from our tee time of 7:15, and getting around in about 4 and a half hours. The course is in very good shape, as last weekend was the Seattle Amateur. We've had such a dry spring/early summer that you can feel the firmness in the ground as you walk the fairways. Lots of roll tee to green, making the course play just a little shorter than you might think. Greens were very good, a little bit quick for a municipal, but not over the top. There was the occasional bump, but in general they did putt very nicely. Tees were decent and the traps consistent with very heavy sand. Fairways very nice, rough nearly non existent and not punishing at all.

I love the layout of the first 13 holes, but the last few really aren't much fun. With the conditions so good, I found the close of the round bearable, whereas in times past I've felt like those last few holes just ruin what's usually been a good time. Today though, West Seattle really did feel like the class of the Seattle municipals.

Played West Seattle this morning, teeing of as a twosome at 7:25. Conditions were pretty good, the course is playing very firm and fast as a result of how dry it has been. Greens are in very good shape, quite quick and rolling true. Most shots hold very well, also. Fairways were just ok, as was the rough. The two fairway bunkers I found were in fine shape, and the tee boxes are good too. The par 3 boxes do have some divot damage, but nothing unmanageable.

The pace, unfortunately, was another story. We were behind two foursomes, neither of which were playing quickly. It got so frustrating to wait on every shot that as we made the turn, my partner and I skipped in front of them to the 12th hole, as there was no one in front of these two groups for at least three holes. It was annoying to play a 16 hole round, but worth it in the end as I think I would have gone nuts waiting on every shot on the back 9.

Have played twice here in the last month. West Seattle is by far the best of the muni's in the greater Seattle area. If you are a serious player and want the challenge of a good muni...this is your track. The tips slope at 131 and are very challenging. Blue is what i play and I struggle to stick to my handicap. The greens are in pretty good shape, the tees and fw's as well. the rough right now is BRUTAL....both from long hair and mud. Keep it in the fw and you can score. No practice facility other than 2 putting greens.

Played West Seattle last Saturday, and found the place to be in reasonable shape. The greens were insanely slow, but it is the middle of winter here. Fairways were pretty sloppy, even though it hasn't rained a whole lot. Rough was pretty good, and I stayed out of all of the bunkers, so I'm not sure how they were playing. Tee boxes were pretty good. Pace wasn't too bad, especially considering we were behind 2 fivesomes, one of which let our foursome through at the turn.

I'm always a little conflicted with this place, I love the layout of the front nine, but the back always feels like such a slog. I agree that it might be nicer if the nines were flipped, although a friend of mine told me that the one time he played it that way there was a ridiculously long wait on #11 (his second of the day). For the rack winter rate, I'd say its worth a visit.

I had heard a ton about West Seattle from many sources. Come to find out My Grandfather InLaw was a club champ there in the 80's.

First off, there is no practice facility, so get loose elsewhere. The practice putting green is very well kept and I could stay there for hours. The old skool club house is a welcome blast from the past. Lots of wood, low ceilings, and a cool lowered bar (That opens early, need the swing lube with no range).

One knock I hear over and over again is that this place gets packed and can take six hours to play. Lucky for us, we were off at 0715 and spun around in less then four. I enjoyed playing here, although I wish I had some better course knowledge as I hit it into some bad spots that I happened to be aiming for.

Most of what you get here is expected from muni track designed long ago. Some tee boxes provide wonderful, mostly unseen views looking east at Seattle. The marshal was helpful and very friendly. Help line us up on the eyeful that is the 5 par on the elevated, bombs away hole, found on the back. I did a poor job of keeping track of the holes, so excuse my lack of detail. There is a hole on the back, I want to say 15, that is BEAST from the tips. It is almost 80 yards longer then the next tee box up. It's a ton and a half to the corner of the right facing dogleg and a 2 club uphill to a slick and very tricky green.

If I could, I would flip the 9's as the par 5 9th is a dandy. What a sweet look at a tiny green with a valley short, back to front slope, and if you get on in 3, mind you putt if you want to get out at level. 18 is kind of a let down as far as a finishing hole. All and all, I will be back. Looking to match one of Gpa' s low rounds.

Played West Seattle today, 4/27/12 and found it to be a little bit lacking. The greens aren't too bad, and have healed relatively well, but the fairways had just been punched and were downright awful. Tee boxes, rough, and traps were passable. The sun was out, so there were quite a few hackers around making the pace a little bit on the slow side. In a few weeks it should be much better, but I still wouldn't tee off here after 8:30, unless you're into playing pretty slow.
