Played here today in group 1A of the GK/Golf Moose outing with David and Tom. Cloudy front nine but the sun broke through somewhat on the back. Event was well organized and pace was decent, just a bit over four and a half hours. Nice GPS on the carts. Instead of a driving range, they have a big netted area with about six hitting mats where you can hit shots maybe 40-50 yards into the netting. The practice green near the staging area got pretty busy but there's another one between the clubhouse and the 18th green.

Conditions are quite good. Greens ran smoothly despite numerous ball marks on many greens. They are sorta sneaky quick with a little extra run out than you expect. Overall, they were medium fast and medium firmness, accepting full shots very well but a little trickier to control the ball from around the green. Fairways had good coverage and were cut tight. Rough also had good coverage and wasn't too deep and most times my ball sat up top, but if it did sink down in a bit, it presented a challenge. White tee boxes were mostly nice, some maybe a little crowned. Most of the bunkers I was in were good but one was pretty firm.

This was my first time playing here. This isn't a course that will "wow" you but it's solid and definitely played tougher than it looks. I found the back nine to have more character than the front nine. My biggest complaint about this course would have to be the noise level from the nearby freeway – almost feels like you can't hear yourself think sometimes. I scored quite poorly and would like another shot at this place sometime.

First time back here since before COVID. I was lucky to find a tee time after a GK'er let me know that the hotels give up their unused times on Thursday and Friday mornings around 9am. We snagged a 7:30am time for $102 on mothersday. IN my opinion $100 for this course is plenty fair as the conditions are usually in good to great shape. We checked in and actually were able to go out at 7:20. POP was just at 4 hours, We had a 4 some in front of us but never saw the group behind so we hit some extra shots here and there to keep a nice pace. Good carts with GP and Music. Cart girl was on the front 9 but nothing on the back. Staff was friendly except the cart barn guy who didnt say anything when we returned and just stared at us as we unloaded the carts.

Conditions were good over all but I have to nitpick some things. Tee Boxes were a little chewed up and needed to be moved. Fairways had full coverage and played fine. This course has a lot of elevation changes and there are collection areas that have a lot of divots. The rough was very thick and penal today which probably caused most of my anger on the course. Around the greens near the fringe there is clumpy patches of different grasses that look bad and make putting from off the green impossible. Greens were firm and fast but received well hit shots and allowed some spin to be played. Sand traps was a mixed bag. I was in a lot of sand yesterday and a few were very firm with the lining showing and then you had some with way too much sand. I was in 2 fairway bunkers that my feet would sink 3-4 inches into the sand which is not optimal when you are 200 yards out. The one that really sucked was I had a 20-yard chip over a trap and landed 1 foot short of clearing and the ball completely plugged!!!!

All in All the course is still in good shape. I have seen it much better but with the awesome layout and decent pricing I would still recommend.

I met two of my sisters for brunch at Penmar 5/10 and it worked out well. They enjoyed the ambiance and they found the food was unexpectedly good. As they were leaving I put my name on the waitlist and about a half hour later I was on the tee. It was convenient so I wasn't overly concerned about the fact that the greens are still in waffle-iron, sand-filled-holes recovery mode. Despite that, the greens putted reasonably true if you could manage to figure out the rate at which your putt would die out. Not what you are typically looking for, but not so bad as a spur of the moment fix of a round. Otherwise, the course played well but visually reflects a bit of the heavy traffic it gets. Some of the tees were spare, albeit level, but using a tee makes the scruffiness less relevant. The bunkers were decent sand but a collection of footprints that complicated your lie. Fairways and rough were good. It worked out well for me, but if you are just going on conditions, the greens will need a couple of weeks before the sandy holes are remnants and the green speed is closer to normal.

Worth mentioning is the non-golf aspect of this place. I unexpectedly found an attended mini bar and snack station on the fifth tee (Monday through Saturday, I believe). The updated cafe has become quite the magnet with an interesting, well prepared menu and a lot of outdoor seating — a bit hipster with a hint of gastropub. The patio has been extended parallel to the left side of the first tee and a permanent stage is set there for evening entertainment. I finished sometime around 5:00 and the setting up for additional food and drink stations around the putting green, starter shack and cafe area was significant. A band was already playing to the crowd beginning to assemble inside the gates. With the arriving security and more guests lining up outside, it had the feel of a genuine, if small, concert event. What was once upon a time a quiet, if always busy, nine holes with a simple cafe, has become quite the local scene on certain evenings. This Saturday night is headphone disco night, so there you go.

I was disappointed in Bali Hai , Played here on 5-7-24 . So like most of the reviews say they don't have a driving range its just nets you hit into , that was OK because I knew that going in . the practice putting green was in poor shape. POP was good I was able to play 18 in less than 4 hours , most of the sand was hard packed , many of the fairways had been punched and not recovered and some holes were cart path only or cart path restricted. Customer Service was fine . My Bottom line . This course is way too expensive for what you get, if your not serious at all about golf and you want to go out and hack around and get drunk with your buddies and hire some par mates and you dont care about the rate, then great you will have fun. But as far any type of a high end course in my humble opinion NO its just a very average municipal golf course.

Played Wednesday, May 8, twilight, 4:30pm, $40 to walk. Front nine took over 2.5hrs and then the back nine was really quick. I left after hole 11, but one member of our group kept going and he finished in the dark.

I could not recommend this course right now. Something is going on with the overseed? or the bermuda vs. rye situation? or??? I'm not a horticulturist by any means, but things just seem a bit off with the fairways, greens and fringes.

The greens were bumpy and didn't hold a shot very well. Very hard and lots of small unrepaired ball marks.

Rough wasn't very penal, easy to get a club on the ball. It was only about an inch or so longer than the fairways.

Fairways had some white "bloom" going on and a mixture of grasses. Quite a bit of thin areas and they're using green dye/spray to make it look presentable.

The fringes were super wierd. Veriable patches of different grasses and bare spots. Once again painted/dyed green for appearance.

Bunkers were a mixed bag, some hardpan and wet while others were in ok shape with fluffier sand.

We played the green tees (alternating mix of white and blue tees) and they were fine, not a big problem.

Saw the beverage cart once, but didn't partake, I brought my own bottle of water.

Practice putting green was aerated and sanded, the little fake grass putting green is a joke, no help with real practice, so that was kind of a bummer.

I forgot my Golfbuddy voice GPS which was a huge mistake when you're walking. There is no yardage signs anywhere in the fairways. No sprinklers are marked whatsoever, no yardage discs whatsoever. Carts have GPS, so if you're walking make sure you bring some GPS device or a laser range finder.

I just can't recommend this course right now, especially for any rack rate. Even the $40 twilight rate was tough to swallow. Hope they get some maintenance done on the course soon.

Day 4, last day, of the FL trip, 5/9, played the black, 4:45 riding with a forecaddy, hot day. Wanted to walk, but that Florida sun is different... searing. Humid, but not air heavy humid, just sweat beading humidity in FL heat. There were periods of time I had a hard time keeping my hands dry due to my fingers getting sweaty. Black is considered the Putting course. Huge greens, very undulating. Need to know where on the green to aim, know how the ball kicks. I putted really well the previous 2 days here... I think only 1 3putt per round... and I had like 4 today. I just had really difficult first putts. Overall, this course also was the one where you absolutely need a caddy. Lots of blind shots, difficult to interpret layouts where you don't know where the best place to go... it was a blast though... really fun layout, just with a caddy. Greens very firm. True, a fast 10 to fast 12, depending on the grain. Very grainy greens. Overall a visually pleasing property, fabulous courses on par with Bandon and Straits.. though not quite their caliber. Hotel and everything was amazing. I hear they are building a 4th course. They certainly have enough land, as it's literally in the middle of nowhere. Wildlife everywhere, including huge gators sunning. They built a 19 hole par 3 which was fun. And they have 2 18 hole putting greens, punchbowl style. I guess this is the trend with all of the resorts. I predict that in 10 years, they will have a Bandon problem, impossible to book a trip. Had a great time.

Played Los Lagos near Bull Head and Laughlin Wednesday . Been about 5 years now and the course has been going to rot. Greens look bad but are fairly good to put on. Fairways are at best 50% GONE, just finding grass if you want to move out of the dirt is not even easy now. So sorry to see because course is fairly easy or was fairly easy to score on.. Across the way is the EL RIO and we played there the day before and it is about 50% gone also. A few greens had nice grass around them and the greens were not too bad at all but the fairways are very hit and miss with some at least 30% dirt now, Los Lagos all bunkers are ground never to be repaired it looks like, The El Rio did have nice bunkers around the greens which we found kinda different. Guess they have enough money to take care of a few yards around the greens, greenside bunkers and greens but fairways are on their own for the most part.,

Played with my weekly group on May 9,24.
They seem to be incrementally raising their fees.
Although out early (6:20), pace wasn't as quick as hoped with waiting on most
tees common. Conditions are adequate, but the main problem is how the bunkers
lack maintenance!!
Grill hasn't raised prices so our lunch was much appreciated and good.
Rosa is a sweetheart!
Now that D-Bar has reopened, its relieved the over crowding here.

Day 3 of the FL trip, 5/8, played the blue, 4:45 riding with a forecaddy, hot day. Wanted to walk, but that Florida sun is different... searing. Humid, but not air heavy humid, just sweat beading humidity in FL heat. There were periods of time I had a hard time keeping my hands dry due to my fingers getting sweaty. Blue is considered the Approach course. Forgiving off the tee, wide fairways. Greens well protected. Elevations, greenside bunkers, Need to be sharp with the irons. Greens very firm. Day 2 of the FL trip, played the red first, 4:45 walking with a caddy, hot day. That Florida sun is different... searing. Humid, but not air heavy humid, just sweat beading humidity in FL heat. There were periods of time I had a hard time keeping my hands dry due to my fingers getting sweaty. Red is considered the Drivers course. Tough off the tee, keeping the drive straight, avoiding hazards, and forced carries, visually deceptive. Greens very firm. True, a fast 10 to fast 12, depending on the grain. Very grainy greens. Played today. Course is in great shape at the moment. Tee boxes are all clean and level. They have held up well since being all redone in 2011/12. The fairways are wonderful. Green with great roll out and good lies. I think this is the fastest I have seen them ever. The areas outside of the fairways are cut down to conserve watering and some areas have the wood chips down which IMO is OK. I like the new local rule regarding the "wire" grass that is prevelant on the course. You can move your ball w/o penalty. Traps were all clean and playable and I heard no complaints. Greens are great. They are firm so low shots will bounce a long way, but nice high iron shots hold and release just fine (I will have to learn that shot). And they have speed. And not just downhill putts. Love them when they are like this. Good customer service in the Pro shop and bar/restaurant. I like that they do not allow 5's anymore and a marshal is out patrolling. Was very pleased with our POP at 4:15 as we teed off mid morning and in the past that would have been less than enjoyable. Sr rate i$39.75 with cart and I think that is a very good price for this course. Recommended.

Played Sunday 5/5, 10:30 tee time, 4:45 pace. Sunny hot day. Orlando stop before hitting streamsong. Greens look like they were recently verticut, and they were a bit bumpy and slow as a result. Running a slow 10. Rest of the course in great shape. Bunkers were on the softer side, even the fairway bunkers, but true and consistent. The layout itself is not bad. It's not horrible, but it's Palm Springs golf... not my favorite. Lakes in play on many holes, including the famous par 5s. A nice course that I wouldn't make the centerpiece of my big golf vacation across the country. And you can't wear your hat anywhere indoors, and they will remind you nicely if you do. Not annoying at all.
