Made it to Wailea Golf today to hit up the Emerald course. One of three options at the resort, the Blue a short course, the Gold the former Senior Skins game course (a real golf challenge they say), and the Emerald a mix of the two. All three are excellently maintained. The Gold and Emerald course share a clubhouse while the Blue is closer to the resorts. Before we get to the course, the facility is really a top notch golf location with a great range, range carts, a large practice green, and a locker room that rivals any resort I've seen. Lots of guys working the course both in the clubhouse and out on the course. At just under 200$ a pop this is what I would expect, as the Four Seasons, Fairmont, and Grand Wailea are all within walking distance.

As the course goes, Wailea Emerald is a challenge met with a variety of holes each uniquely presenting their own quirks. Up a hill, down a hill, dog legs, small greens, large greens. The tee boxes are in great shape 9/10 as are the fairways and rough. The Sand was soft but still could have been a little more filled. The greens were fast and smooth, but also the humidity did make the ball stick, so hard to read at times, especially in the shade. I was paired up with a great guy who was about my handicap and a very nice couple from Denver. We teed it up at 6:40 AM and almost immediately we let a single go past us... on the third hole. By the 5th hole another single came up and sat behind us the entire round. There were singles and doubles the next 4 or 5 groups behind us. Yet we kept pace at exactly 4hrs. I am not sure what is going on with the management and tee times. The Emerald wasn't as difficult as some may say it is. Today it provided a different challenge, rarely seen in a Hawaii, 90 degree heat with no wind and lots of humidity. After the round I felt completely drained.

I would love the opportunity to play the Gold and Blue courses, and should you be on this side of Maui this is the golf course you want to pay to play. I highly recommend a visit here the next time you come to Maui.

Played 12/062018. Everyone wants to play this course so it plays a little slower even with an early t-time. The course is in very good shape and the staff could not have been nicer (same staff as the golf). You can go down to the other end of the island (Kapalua) and it can be raining and the wind can be blowing and there is nothing here. Enjoyed the course and Maui, now off the the Big Island.

Second course on my buddy's wedding trip found us playing Wailea Emerald on 11/1 at 7:20am in perfect 85 degree weather. Yes this course is more scenic compared to the Gold course a couple days prior, but we agreed this course isn't as great as the Gold was. Great tees, fairways, and sand here, and faster greens compared to the Gold. This course was much more target golf with multiple medium length par 4s which took driver out of our hands. If I ever go back to Maui, I'd chose the Gold Course to play again.

fairways were in great shape. Cut nice with good roll and very nice to hit from.
Was in a couple of traps and they were consistent and were pretty easy to get out of.
Rough looked benign but was fluffy enough to make good ball contact required.
Greens were receptive and ran true. A little on the slow side for my taste at medium/slow.
All around a great course. I was fortunate to play Kapalua on a windless day a few years back and I enjoyed this course more.

Located less than a mile from the nearest beach, you can imagine how nice the view would be from the course. The property boast of 2 of the best courses in Maui. Unfortunately, the Gold was just aerated so didn't get a chance to play and review it.

The Emerald is the easier of the 2 being shorter but also tighter as per told by starter.

As previously reviewed by roarksown, it was a very nice course with pristine conditions. Everything was lush and green, service excellent. There is a bag drop and someone comes to pick up your clubs. Teebox, fairway in excellent condition. Bunkers with fine white sand. Greens were still healing from maintenance but very playable. Firm and semi-fast. Temps was in the mid 80s but the ocean breeze keeps the playing conditions comfortable.

There were a few blind shots but they have GPS on the carts to let you know if you need to wait. We started on the back 9 which was a bit of a let down since #1 is the perfect opening hole with great view to start the round. Petty detail but it throws the flow of the course in my opinion.

The $200 price tag might be a bit much but there are deals to be had if you look. There are also package deals that bring down the price tag per round to more reasonable range.

At the end of the round, they offer you a nice cold towel and cart you to your car.

Highly recommended.

Played two rounds at the Wailea Emerald course this past week and it holds its own very favorably for me against its neighbor the Gold course. Very tricky, lots of trouble to get into, yet every bit as beautiful and challenging/rewarding for the golfer lucky enough to get to play here.

Amenities for both Gold and Emerald courses are shared from the same clubhouse, so the transition is seamless. The driving range is mats only, and you take a range cart up there instead of the actual cart you'll use while playing.

Current conditions very similar to the Gold course right now, and maybe even in a few ways superior. The greens are slower than expected like the Gold course, but offer some challenges in reading the breaks more so than the speed. Shot reception just fine.

Fairway coverage is just a hint better than the Gold course, and the rough is equally penal and perfect. Tee boxes, like the Gold course, exquisite. Sand in bunkers also a bit of a mixed bag but for the most part just fine depending on the time of day.

Service on the course just as frequent as the Gold course as well. The only real difference is the layout, but even then we're just splitting hairs. The Emerald course is a bit shorter but makes up for that with more daunting bunkers in more precarious sight lines. The elevations and fairway undulations are there every bit as much as the Gold Course.

You'll need that suave GPS on the Emerald course also every bit as much as on the Gold, especially for quirky holes for a first-timer like the dogleg left hole 6. But there's also some wide open grandeur like the par 5 11th hole which is an epic ride.

Again, only one picture was posted on GK so I've rectified that and should have just about every hole covered for you. In the end, I found the Emerald course every bit as satisfying and enjoyable as the Gold course, but that all boils down to personal preference. Either way though, you're just not going to be sad about being here after your round is done.

Played here 12/22/13 at 10AM. Nice driving range with 25 stations. You have to take a separate range cart (without roof) to go to the range even though they have regular cart. They said it was their slow season. We teed off as 2 some along with bunch of other 2 somes so played in about 3.5 hours even after taking many photos. Emerald course fits its name. The fairways and rough was in deep dark shade of green in superb condition. It would rival any of the Hawaii's top course in condition and it wouldn't be much to prepare course like this for a PGA event. Every hole is either severe uphill or downhill. All the downhill holes have Ocean View while all the uphills have Mountain View. It was very scenic with elevation changes that just can't be captured in a photo. Course didn't play very long due to lots of down hills but was very enjoyable. Emerald is more of a resort style course with no OB and fairly generous on tee shots. Toughest part of the course was its green. It has special Bermuda that supposely follows the sun shine so it was tough to read. Similarly lined putts that were only few inches away from each other broke differently depending on the grain. One putt would break left and another wouldn't break or even broke right even though it was only few inches away from the other putt. I would highly suggest this course for those who enjoy spectacular views with best condtions. Staff was attentive and cart girl Amy came around 3 times during our round.
