Played in a college reunion tournament on 5/31/16. Also got in a practice round. This course is about 3 hours north east from Sacramento and is definitely worth the drive. It very close to Lake Almanor and has some nice views of Mount Lassen. Mountain design, it sets in among many pine trees and a few lakes. It closes down for the winter at the end of October and then opens up again in mid-April. The weather was great mid 70’s and they tell me it usually doesn’t get above 90 in the summer when it does, it’s rare. It also sits at about 4500 feet above sea level so the ball will carry a bit longer.

This course is beautiful. Fairways were perfect. Not a bad lie in the fairway; no brown spots or dry areas as they did get a lot of rain and snow over the winter. The rough is thick and will grab the hosel if you're not careful. Tee boxes are also perfect. Sand traps were damp but playable. The greens were great and rolled perfectly. I asked what kind of grass the greens were that said they were bent grass. Looked like heavy poa anna to me. Interesting that the golf course has no cart paths throughout the fairways; only on the tee boxes and around the greens and some of the cart paths are chewed up due to tree roots. Also, the golf carts are gas which I haven’t seen in a long time. There are some elevation changes but nothing severe and most of the fairways wind through the trees. I wouldn’t call this course difficult. The fairways are wide so the landing areas are generous. Greens are fairly large and do not have many undulations.

I have played this course a couple of times now and have never seen it crowded. Pace of play is usually 4 hours or less. Customer service was great. They gave us a discount rate of $50 which was nice. They have a great practice area with full driving range, sand and pitch shot practice areas.

This is a sold course. Great layout so if you enjoy mountain golf and are up in this far north, this course is a must play. Already looking forward to next year’s outing.
