Course is always in great shape, some of the best greens in N. California. Ball rolls true and pure. Pin's were tough but approachable.

OK. Catching up on my reviews. I played here last week and let me say that this is my favorite course in the area. The amenities are tip-top. In addition to the grill, the winery and excellent restaurant are across the parking lot. We played the blue tees, around 6,200 yds. The course is in great shape and unaffected by dry conditions. Most of the holes are located in the valley amid vineyards, then you climb up "Lombard St." to access holes 10 - 13 set in the hills. The view from the 10th tee is spectacular. To me the 12th hole is the most difficult - a long par 5 with a blind second shot and an oak tree guarding the approach. The only hole that seems contrived to fit the terrain is the 6th. You have a tee shot, then an uphill approach to the green that you better not miss. A bit pricey, but if you look around you can find good deals. I highly recommend it!

First time here. Played in morning after a significant rain; cart paths only, with a strong “south” wind. Most of early tee times had cancelled so played in 3.5 hours. Not typical conditions. Played the “combo” course so only about a 6000 yard track and front nine was very soggy; so seemed longer. Many holes were visually intimidating from tee, but had very wide landing areas. The greens were large and still very firm and did not hold. They were relatively slow, as they had not been mowed. Pins did not follow the numbered locations on yardage book (cart computer had correct positions). Most were in relatively flat areas without radical breaks within 10 feet, very fair. Some greens surfaces were not visible on approach, computer on cart was helpful, but not being able to leave cart path limited this. Wind was cold and pretty strong; out of the South which is a little different than prevailing. Across on the first six holes which were sheltered, and then 7,8,9 were downwind and played shorter than would be normal. Back nine was much more exposed to wind particularly 13-14, left to right, and 15-18 which were into it. Quite entertaining, made club selection critical (I mostly got it wrong). Very good conditions, except for some tees which were pretty beat up. This is a course everyone should try to play. Somewhat costly, but consistent with the area.

Played on 8/26. Greens have been aerated with fine point needle type and dusted with sand but they are still running pretty d%mn good.

Played Wente Sunday 8/16. 10:00AM tee time. Diablo Valley has been scorching with triple digit heat and haze from fires up north.

Course is in incredible shape. Greens are pure, and rolling around 11 according to the staff. Fairways were perfect, no bald or burn spots. Tiny bit of water accumulation on the down slopes.

Tee's are starting to show a tiny bit of wear, but still in great condition.

Played in 3:45. Ball was really carrying in the heat. Ydg's were dead on. Practice greens were perfect.

The service, staff, and facility or outstanding. Great golf, beautiful course, and just an awesome experience every time I go.

This course has been high on my wish list for years, but this was my first time playing any East Bay/Tri-Valley golf. You could be sure Wente was going to be my first stop. I had a 7:00 tee time, which turned out to be in the third group off the tee, paired with a twosome. There was another threesome in front of us and a foursome in the lead. It was funny because early on the threesome was griping about how slow the other group was going to be, but they ended up being the ones to fall behind. We waited on them for most shots, but still the overall pace of about 3:45 was fantastic. They could use better communication here for first time players because there was a little confusion as to when to head up to the tee (which is a lengthy cart ride up the hill from the clubhouse), who I was playing with, etc. We kind of just sorted it out ourselves based on our tee times. The course is in good overall shape. Obviously, they are needing to conserve some water here like everyone else, so it's far from pristine. That said, the playability throughout was great. The tee boxes were nice for the most part. The fairways were a little mushy at times and there were some weak spots here and there, but I almost always had a great lie. The rough was relatively lush, but cut low so not overly penal. I was in a couple bunkers and they had excellent sand. The greens were good. On the front nine, they seemed rather slow, but they really sped up on the back nine when things dried out. It went from not being able to get the ball to the hole to not being able to get it to stop running past the hole! Overall, I really loved the course. This is a fun layout with a dramatic setting running through the hills, massive oak trees and vineyards. Lots of significant elevation changes and great views throughout. I thought the layout was very fair. It looks more intimidating than it actually is. There's a good mix of holes with short, strategic ones and a few longer more open ones. I got to use pretty much every club in my bag from the blue tees. The greens are very deceptive and difficult to read for a first-time player. The natural hills and slopes have a major effect on putts, but it's not always easy to see when lining up. In general, I found that whatever you think the break is, double it! I'd definitely recommend this track to anyone.

The course is in fantastic shape. Weekday deals on golfnow are a great value compared to other courses in the area. Always priced a little higher than most, but well worth the extra $$ if you appreciate a really great course and experience. The local danville/San Ramon Costco sells gift cards that are $149 for $200 of golf. The 25% savings is good when combined with golfnow and plenty left for great wine after or money toward the next round. You'll definitely want to go back!!

The course was damp though the sand traps had good drainage with no standing water considering the rain the previous four to five days. The greens were very firm, at times very difficult to keep a good shot on. The greens were very quick and most of the break took place within 4 feet of the cup, correct tempo is key. The tee boxes at times had longer then normal grass, which was a little problematic. Most fairways were fairly wide open, but do not want to drive the ball into the secondary rough, more of the natural grasses and brush which makes for difficult recovery. Water does not come into play except on the 17th fairway, so keep your drive to the left side, and on the 18th hole when approaching the 18th green. The vineyards, which are abundant are OB, keep clear, even if you are next to them and not OB, the ground and conditions are difficult at best to hit from.

Played 1/16, 9:50 tee time; 4:35 round; beautiful day, 1 club wind picked up halfway through; course in magnificent shape; greens were punched with small tines on Monday and they are rolling true and fast (11 stimp). paid the 'winter special' rate, and with the lack of rain, it's prime spring conditions. cart girl came plenty. overall a wonderful day.
