Played 36 holes yesterday on 7/23/20, the first 18 was played starting at 0900 with a club member (John) which really helped with tee shots and putting these crazy fast and undulated greens. Always think about the ocean which affects nearly all the greens at this place. This was the most challenging course I have ever played with so many deep bunkers, sloping fairways, sticky rough and tough pin placements. If you landed a ball 2 or 3 feet from your target, the difference was putting a 4 foot putt to a 20 foot putt or more. If you think you are a really good player this course will humble you much like it did when we played with a couple of young bucks who played with us on the second 18. The staff was extremely helpful in finding a way to get us out for our second round because they were booked solid for the later part of the day. Weather could not have been better with slight breezes that kept us cool and appreciative we live in SoCal. Bring plenty of balls because the track is tight with lots of scrub brush that will not give back your ProV1's. So glad we purchased the Underpar deal that cost $299 for 2 for unlimited golf. Took all my strength to finish, but well worth it. $75 a round was the best deal out there. Again, just glad to be playing. If you want a real challenge to see where your game is at, play Trump National. You will not be disappointed in the challenge, but you may be disappointed to realize you are not as good as you thought you were. Play well my friends.

This review may be interpreted by some as comical, but it is dead serious. Today, I drove by Riverwalk and it looked country club lush. In the past, I have mentioned this track as my go to course. In the past, the greens have been so challenging on Mission/Presidio/Friars. In the past, Friars has been my least favorite (9) and remains third on the list of (9) to play. In the past, Presidio in the late afternoon breeze is a challenge. In the past, Riverwalk has poured me a cold IPA included in the price of a round. I will be playing this course soon and hope I enjoy it as I have in the past. Play well my friends.

Played Steele Canyon - Ranch/Vineyard today and teed off at 9:06. Beautiful cloudy day that ended around the 9th hole and warmed up quite a bit. The breeze kicked up midway through the second nine and kept it cool enough to enjoy. It has been 12 years since I have played this course and I had forgotten what a delight it is to play. Course is surrounded by luxurious homes so be careful with errant shots, you might just damage something expensive. The course was a bit dry and mowed short making the rough somewhat nonexistent. The greens rolled well, but some slower than others. Lots of tight lies around the greens which made me break out my putter from 10-15 feet off the green. Putter was a good choice. The fairways were patchy, but provided a decent lie most of the time. Again, the highlight was just playing. Even though it was not pristine, I highly recommend this course at this time. Beautiful surroundings and definitely a challenge. Play well my friends.

Played Willow Glen on Saturday the 30th of May. Warm day, but the breeze helped out on the back nine. Just glad to be playing again, but the course fell short. Very dormant conditions in the fairways and rough. Could be such a wonderful track with some attention like it was the last time I had played it. Highlight was the sand traps which I found quite a few times and the greens. I played with the Costco deal and will be playing Steele Canyon next week. Until next time, play well my friends.

Played on 7/13 and the greens were the highlight of the round. This is a challenging course with some parts of the rough playing like a major golf championship. The weather was a bit warm at 10:06 when we teed off. I would suggest teeing off earlier, but the $79 dollar deal for 2 we got from clickitgolf.com only allows tee times after 10:00am on weekends. The guys we played with paid over $60 for their tee times. The bunkers were wet and compact, two things you should not expect at a golf course. Overall, I really enjoyed the course and I highly recommend you play before it gets even hotter.

Had the honor to play this course on 8/20/18 in a best ball tournament. Service provided by staff was 5 star. This course is BEAUTIFUL. If I had the money I would join in a heartbeat. Playing here, I felt like a millionaire. The fairways were pretty open, but the views on some tee shots can be intimidating. Just don't let it get in your head. Overall the course was immaculate, but the greens were not in their best shape probably from the heat. They looked like they got burned and then they over compensated with water so they ran a lot slower than they looked. From all the Mediterranean homes lining the course I thought I was playing a round in Monte Carlo. I have played 3 country clubs in the past couple months and this one is my favorite. This course just made my top 5 list in San Diego. If you ever get the chance to play, do not pass it up.

Fortunately, I was playing with 3 old college roommates, but the course did not impress. Reminded me of RB Inn with a touch more slope and slightly better conditions. The greens were fast and deceptive to all. Truly the highlight to the round. I hate to say it, but if I had the money this would not be my course. Maybe... the rest of the amenities might make up for the lackluster golf. The pool and the remodeled clubhouse looked nice.

Had the opportunity to play this course in a best ball tournament a few weeks back. Never thought I would have the chance to play here. This course is probably the most historic in San Diego (one could argue Torrey Pines), but you could really feel it here. One of the first courses ever to have grass for greens. This course is almost 100 years old and it shows with the maturity of the trees and the country club atmosphere. This course is officially in my top five in San Diego now. I was surprised at the level changes for this course, I figured it would be more flat. The views of the course from the clubhouse make you envious of the members who get to regularly play it. Not one hole really stands out, they all do. What a beautiful place to play golf. Immaculate and the fasted greens. The breeze is deceptively penalizing consider 2 clubs, not one. Good luck! You will enjoy it, if you ever get to play it.

Thanks Johnny GK for the Guru status. Not sure, I deserve it. It has been too long between reviews, but arthritis has become my nemesis. Most of my play in the past year and a half has been best ball tournaments at courses, I have reviewed in the past. This past weekend, I celebrated my 50th by playing The Crossings at Carlsbad. I have wanted to play this course for several years now. First impression when we walked into the clubhouse was... WOW! Staff was very warm and greeting. The clubhouse, practice green, practice chipping area and range seemed well designed. As to the course... loved it. Lots of elevation changes so selecting the right club was rewarding and perilous. The breeze is a factor on most of the holes that run along the hilltops. A couple of blind tee shots on #1 and #15. On #1 keep your tee shot to the right, on #15 keep it to the left. Greens were the highlight to this course even with the fact I only made (1) one putt on #17. My nephew almost holed it. (My first ever photo download.) As usual, it never breaks as much as my old eyes see it. The undulation was noticeable on many holes, but #7 and #15 standout. I believe it was #11 (I may suffer from Parkinson's too.) that reminded me of Steele Canyon's (Parachute Hole). Round lasted 5 hours and 15 minutes. Mainly, the play time was so long because there is a lot of driving between holes combined with a slow foursome in front of us. Building this course must have been a challenge, playing it... equally challenging. If you have not tried this course, it is worth it. They have a birthday deal so sign up for their emails.

Played the course with a friend on Friday the 1st of July again for free. Thought more about this course the second time around and came up with the same conclusion. It is a really nice golf course. Service five star - especially for the cart girl who kept my errant 3 wood from going out of bounds. Luckily, it just struck the cart and not her. The elevation changes on this course is what really stood out this time around. As well as the strategically placed bunkers. The pins were placed in totally different locations this time and made the play much more difficult. It is hard to complain about a well designed challenge and The Grand is all that and much more.

Played Friday 4-29-16, teed off at 7:15. Greens showed they had been punched recently, but rolled well. Flat course that could be walked easily. If you want to avoid the booking fee call two days prior at 9am and speak to the starter. Nice course in a nice place. Definitely, not my favorite course in San Diego, but a decent one to play every now and then.

Played Journey on 3/6/16 teed off around 10:30 in the rain. The sun came out around the 6th hole and so did my golf game. I played the last 11 holes at 4-over which is pretty good for me. I won most of the skins that day. It is a beautiful thing when you take all the money from your brother and his friends. Also, gambled at the casino before and after and won even more money. Anyone who has played this course knows it is one of the best in SoCal. This course pretty much looks the same year round. Green and lush. Only one drawback on the day was the inability of the group in front of us to repair their ball marks on the greens. If you can play during the week, use the Underpar.com deal to play 36 and really get your moneys worth.
