Solid nine-hole course in good shape. Fairways, tees, sand, and greens all above average for $15. Good mix of holes #7 is a standout from the back tee over the water. A little hilly but not a bad walk. 3 groups on some of the holes, waiting on every shot 2 1/2-hour POP.

Fun little nine holer in regrettable shape. The only course in the area I could get on, and I can see why. Lots of brown all around and the greens were weeds. Birdied the first green so I guess it didn't matter. $15 probably overpriced but if they could get it in shape, it is a fun nine to walk. Holes away from the condos on the other side of the tunnel held some interest, shame it's in this kind of shape.

Played last week, wish I knew about the pizza GDR mentioned because I arrived hungry and was surprised to find no clubhouse only a trailer. Course in solid shape all around, some chunks of fairways are missing turf and marked GUR but I was able to avoid them.

I thought the greens were only medium speed, but they rolled smooth. Played the white tees at a little over 6,000 yds with a steady 2 club wind most of the day. Fairways are a mile wide, so the wind and the bigger than average greens are the main defense. I didn't play particularly well and still shot an 83 so I might try the blue tees if I get another chance to play it.

Paid around $30 for a golfnow 2:30 tee time that came with the cart. Course is very walkable, so I imagine it is one of the better values around. Waited on every shot but it moved along. I saw a gap on 17-18 so I was able to finish in 4 hours, but 4 1/2 seems typical.

Played last week as a reciprocal on my way south to Ventura. Teed off at 4:30 and had the place virtually to myself. I enjoyed the course and the layout after hearing some people dunk on it over the years. Great scenic setting and I got to play in less than two hours which automatically places it above almost every course in Southern California. (Public, private, or nine holes, LOL)

Course was in private course shape all around, however the bunkers are full of sand, but it is the brown and crusty variety. (I seem to play better out of that kind, so it was fine by me) As an aside when I was driving out past the River Course The bunkers were filled with blinding white sand that looked deep and fluffy. The greens were smooth and looked fast, but I thought were not even medium, not a great combination and they took some getting used to.


Four distinct par threes, some gettable par fives and fun par fours made for a solid layout. It is expensive, so I get why it doesn't get a lot of love, but they charged me the 9-hole rate and I was more than satisfied.

Every year, since 2022, I have scheduled two private course events at Bear Creek Golf Club depite it being limited to 88 players and it a 5 hour round trip drive for me. My reasons are always the same, it’s an outstanding golf course with beautiful playing conditions, great service and fantastic facilities for a golf event.

Yesterday, on 7/13, was another special day/event at Bear Creek Golf Club.

Teed it up with GKers Itslikeimsayin, sparky14 and briano1985. We had a blast.

Tee to green, Bear Creek Golf Club was lush. The greens were fast as usual, smooth and holding shots. The fairways were lush, ideally groomed, just perfect to hit from. The tee boxes were lush and well groomed. The rough was lush and cut to a forgiving 3 inches (thank you Bear Creek GC) because the course is already very challenging. We played it at times when the bermunda rough is in the 4 to 6 inch range, and that can make it tough to not only play your ball but find it as well. The bunkers were the only aspect of the course not at the level of excellence as other aspects of the course, but by no means in bad shape.

I highly recommend Bear Creek Golf Club on all levels from booking to event, being invited to play as a guest and to becoming a member. Check out the photos I posted!

Bandon Dunes - such a gem, there's a waiting list just to get a tee time! That's how special this place is!!! It's a walking course. If you got a medical doctor to sign you off from walking, they may allow you to ride a cart, otherwise, you're walking! Typical day, if you play 36 holes, is 17 -20 miles of walking each day. It should be on everyone's list of courses to play!!!!

Played in the SCGA member outing 7/13/26. A hot day, no wind, and cart path only made this challenging course even harder. Calabasas is a little dry in spots so a lot of water was applied on the members off day, hence the cart path only. Greens were quick, and that was after the watering. Fairways, tee boxes, and sand were all just about spot on. I will say some of the bunkers could have used a little more sand or a little less water, but I can't really complain because it was my fault I was in them all day.

Calabasas CC is a great course to play, and in an outing it is even better. The carts are great with GPS and cushioning. They give you rides to your car, a take home bag towel, and a great practice facility.

Thinking of playing in the next one.... you should. I see that GK has one set up soon, can't wait!

Walked the blues today 7/13/26 with my buddy Mark and a friendly two ball just before noon. Our Pop was 4 hrs 45 minutes under humid conditions with light winds and temps around 75 degrees.

Olivas has the friendliest staff around, great practice area and was great to see a big junior camp out there today.

Conditions continue to improve if that's even possible from my last round here a couple months ago. Fairways super lush papsulum rated 9/10. They are making great progress on #1 fairway and even some parts that don't come into play like the first 100 yds on number 2. Some of the nicer fairways in the county.

Rough is lush, thick and in beautiful shape. Rated 9/10

Tees all level AND very lush. Great shape as well! 9/10

Greens were rolling around a 10 on the stimp. Soft on approach and rolling pretty pure. Large undulating greens here with a tough pin placement day today#3. Rated 7.5/10

Links style layout but it's very lush in the fairways so don't expect a ton of roll on drives. Fairways a pleasure to hit from. A great variety of challenging holes with some birdie holes sprinkled in here and there.

Well I finally played this course after decades of wanting to play it. I don't think I have ever seen such nice fairways in Southern California. The ball seems to sit on a tee on these firm but plush fairways. No need to dig, just pick it or nip it off the turf for maximum results. I hit my second shot fat on number 2 and was amazed at how tough the grass was. I barely cleared the creek in front of the green. The greens were nice. There were a few dry areas but nothing bad. Another thing is the confusion of finding the pro shop. The resort is an absolute maze. Don't let the yardage fool you the course is a challenge. The layout is a blend of tree lined holes requiring pin point accuracy and some open holes too "let it fly". The first hole is extremely odd. Over the hill the fairway slopes severely away from you. Cart drivers be careful!!

Great day today in group 1B of the Golf Moose / Vivid Golf / GK outing here with JohnnyGK, sparky14, and Brian. Pace was fantastic for these events at just under 4:30. Cloud cover until the last couple holes kept the temperature cooler than expected, but then also much more humid than typical for the area.

Conditions are excellent! Greens were smooth, medium-fast to fast, quite soft and accepting of full shots. I suspect they’re putting lots of water on the course because the fairways are very lush and both the greens and roughs were somewhat wet/muddy underneath the grass. Fairways are the best I’ve ever seen them here – fantastic coverage, uniform cushion, consistent to play from – and I rated them a 9. Rough is a couple inches longer but not too thick nor penal. Blue tee boxes were mostly great, if I had to nitpick maybe a couple could use some leveling. I was in two bunkers and they were perfect.

Kudos to the club for having the course in such great shape and thanks to Johnny, Golf Moose, and Vivid Golf for organizing these events!

Played 7/8/26 10 am POP 4 hrs. Course was in great shape. Fairways had full coverage and mostly lush. A few soggy spots around, but in great shape. Greens were in fantastic shape. Were on the firm side and rolled well. Well struck shots would stop with little to no mark. Sand traps were wet, but had good sand. Small but nice warm up area included with round. No cart service. A beautiful mountain course. Some narrow tee shots and some open ones. It can make you use a lot of your clubs. Easy recommend.

I haven't seen a new review for this course in quite sometime, so here it is.
First of all, I really love this course, however, it has some drawbacks that make me not want to pay $90 on the weekends to drive all the way out here.

Lets just look at this wonderful Pete Dye designed course from tee to green. The tee boxes are mostly in good shape from the blue tees, but there are several that need some serious leveling.

Hopefully, your tee ball is in the fairway because most of them are in good condition and you'll have a decent lie. If your ball finds the rough, that's the perfect adjective to describe it. ROUGH You could have any number of issues from dirt, mud, standing water, long grass, short grass, weeds...you get the picture.

This course is extremely in need of attention outside of the fairways. The greens and fringes are great. The best part of this course by far, aside from the layout. I played this course a lot back when it was still 27 holes and it was beautiful. Now, it really needs some attention to bring this gem back to it's original glory.

This course will challenge you enough, without having to deal with the poor rough conditions. Pete is probably rolling over in his grave. Anyway, the new clubhouse is done, just waiting for it to open up. It looks great! The staff is about as friendly as you could ask for. Despite the conditions, I'll be back, but perhaps during the week when it's a bit cheaper. One more thing, the views around the course are always a treat.
