Fairways are in better shape than last year—but a few are still struggling and splotchy. The greens are mostly healthy, but relatively slow. The bunkers are outstanding. Pace of play was sluggish. Conditioning is about average, but the layout and location are outstanding. Would really like to see them do more to reduce slow play.

Except for a few tee boxes that were a little beat up, everything is in excellent condition. Greens were outstanding. Pace of play was 4 hours.

Cart path restrictions have been lifted on both courses. Course is in excellent shape from tee to green. Pace of play was slow. One of the few courses in this part of town that isn’t surrounded by houses. Pro shop guys and attendants were friendly and helpful. Recommended.

Greens are still recovering, but heading in the right direction. They’ve already announced that they will keep the greens slower in the heat of the next summer and will move some of the tournaments to different times of the year to minimize or avoid the problems they had with the greens this fall. The rest of the course is in very nice shape. Great course!!

Rams Hill used to be a course that was worth a 2-hour drive. The conditioning was outstanding, the pace of play brisk, and the layout memorable. Unfortunately, while the layout is still fun, the course conditioning is subpar and the pace of play is sluggish. Greens are slow with dead spots, and there are problems around some of the collars. The fairways are okay, but still have areas of patchy growth. Frankly, the conditions pale in comparison to the better courses in the Palm Desert that get just as much (or more) play. I understand they did a lot of work this summer in an attempt to fix the problems from last year—but if you’re expecting the type of course conditions that Ram’s Hill used to be famous for, you’ll be sadly disappointed. I wish it wasn’t so.

Greens have healed nicely from the recent aeration. They are overseeding the tee boxes on the par 3s and the par 5 18th. All of the par 3’s (and no 18) are playing from either the red or (in the case of 18) the white tee box. Course conditions are very good.

The greens have been aerated (large holes) and HEAVILY sanded. Recovery time is probably no less than 20 days.

Holes 10 and 17 (both of the par 5's on the back) are closed for maintenance. Once that work is completed (probably 7-10 days), the course should be back to 18 holes. From what I can tell, there are very few (if any) material changes to the course layout--no new tee boxes, no new bunkers, no new greens, etc. Some trees and brush were removed, bunkers got new sand and drainage, etc. Other than the ongoing maintenance, the course is in decent shape.

Old Mac often gets tepid reviews when compared to the other courses at Bandon. It certainly does not have as many ocean views as SR, Bandon, or Pac Dunes. But aside from that metric, it checks all the other boxes. Most importantly, it’s a fun golf course. The greens are huge and have wonderful shapes, mounds and contours—but nothing unfair. All of the courses are in very good shape, but I thought Old Mac’s greens were the best of the bunch. Loved this course.

Played Saturday 8-27. Two holes were closed (par-3 11th and par-4 16th). The par 5s on the back nine (Holes 10 and 17) were split into 2 holes, so you can technically play 9 holes on the back—5 par 4’s and 4 par 3’s. The modified holes are raggedy. It looks like they’re not really doing much maintenance on those holes since they will soon be regressed as well.

The bunkers are loaded with new sand, so balls tend to bury themselves in the bunkers. Even on the face of the bunkers.

A few greens were recently punched and are probably 1 week from rolling smoothly again.

Pace of play was okay for Saturday.

They are scheduled to complete the remodel in October.

Hard to recommend the course in its current condition. Looking forward to seeing the course in October when conditions should be much better.

We played on 8/15. They aerated the greens the next day. The greens were in excellent shape, but it may take another 2 weeks for them to get back to prime condition. Before the aeration, the greens on the North course were playing better (faster, harder, smoother, healthier) than the greens on the South (very good, but currently softer and slower than the North greens).

The rest of the course is in above-average condition for a public course.

We were one of the first groups out, so pace of play was not an issue (a little under 4 hours).

Soldier Hollow is in great shape. And it might be one of the best golf values anywhere.

Unlike its sibling--the silver course--the gold course is not ideal for walking. But the elevation changes, canyons, and ravines on the gold course make it more interesting and challenging than the Silver Course, which sits at a slightly lower elevation and features mostly flat terrain.

The greens were excellent, the bunkers had plenty of sand, the fairways were firm, and the rough was thick, but playable. In fact, SH-Gold is just as good--if not better--than the Red Ledges course up the road. And while Red Ledges has a few holes that are individually better than any single hole at Soldier Hollow, SH-Gold is--overall--a better golf course than the supposedly more prestigious Red Ledgers. In the Park City/Heber area, I'd group SH-Gold with the Promontory courses, behind only Glenwild and Victory Ranch (two of the best courses in the state).
