Played Ewa Beach this morning since it’s directly across the street from the beach (east side of street) and directly next to Army shooting range always lots of commotion ear the course. Check is simple in a small pro shop with nice size restaurant upstairs, fee was 60 to ride and the theme here was Ewa360 don’t quite get it but whatev’s. Course has a lot of left and right holes and some short par 4 holes around 320 but there’s trouble with water or a dogleg at 260 something for the player to think about when teeing off at one of these holes. It’s also aeriation time here but the greens here are healthy are are very fast and firm one needs to put a fair amount of spin on the ball because they don’t hold shots too well. I had no problem with anything under 125, but any other shot say 150 or more , I would hit it short and let it run up. The course is in fantastic shape fairways are mown so ball sits up, rough is a little brutal at times meaning if you are maulka side (mountain side) no chance of finding your ball , too thick and too many trees, if you are on makai side ( ocean side) just a little thick 2inches but at least you can find it. Certain holes are wider than others and so don’t let my review discourage anyone, it really is a great course. They have the packed type of sand so it’s sometimes a challenge but I didn’t have a problem from the green side bunker. Tee boxes are all level and most divots are filled in, greens as I said are firm and fast. If you’re in the area there are 2 courses one called Ewa Beach more of a daily fee and one called Ewa Villages, which is run by the city. Anyways if you’re looking to play somewhere different than the resorts this is it..

Played Mililani today teeing off at 11 am and finishing in about 4 hours 10 minutes. Played with my group of local folks who play on Mondays and Thursdays sometimes I play with them weekly but recently I’ve been back in California visiting with family and looking after our home.
The group here is 15-25 guys aged 60 and over with handicaps ranging from 8-30 but they are all fun to play with. The course is tree lined layout with lots of doglegs both ways and some straight holes as well. Fairways are nice and green as it’s a little cooler and gets a little more rain than in town ( Honolulu) rough can be tough on a few holes but you would really have slice or pull it to be a problem. Tee boxes are all level and not too many divots exist, greens are little harder so not too many ball marks, but most were fixed. It’s that time of year where they are punching the greens but here they were done 3 weeks ago so greens are rolling great but they aren’t holding shots that well unless you really hit them high. The sand here is more of a beach type sand still easy to play from but a little grainy if you know what I mean. The course has a good practice area, nice restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating and overall great vibe. It’s about 40 minutes from Waikiki and it’s a great place to play and chill after a round and if ever in the area definitely recommended…

Played Pali on an overcast but beautiful Fourth of July mid morning. This would be the second time playing here and both times I have gone out as a single. I found out they do give you an option to play/pay for 9. I think the reason people don't play here are because you don't ever know if it's going to rain and conditions of the course. The conditions of the course are not the best, right now tee boxes are a little worn, not uneven but not the best shape as well as the fairways, they are green but its not like Tustin Ranch or anything and they still fine to play from but seem discombobulated if that makes sense, looks like a mixture of grasses. Bunkers are fine sand is normal, greens are a little on the slow side but they still roll true.
The course has a lot lot of up and downs but I still see some people walk. For the resident rate of 52.00 to ride I'm not sure about the price just yet when for 10.00 more you can play Hawaii Prince or other nicer courses in the area, but to play once maybe at twilight would be a wiser choice in my opinion..

Played here this morning teed off at 9 am lots of people here today. Played as a foursome with 2 ladies another gentleman and myself our pace of play was 4 hours 10 minutes. My playing partners were local folks and they play here often during the summer months as it is fairly expensive in season. Marriott courses are always in great shape and this was no different, I prefer this one over the Palm because of the rolling fairways plus I like the layout of many of the holes that goe left to right and right to left. There are a few holes that have water like 5 and 14 that make you think a little bit but I like them. The course is in good shape nice and green with a few brown areas off to the side. Bunkers nice and smooth as I was in a few and the greens really rolled well. Fairways are in good condition and if catch some of the downhill like on the 1st ball hole ball rolls out another 20 yards. This is a course I could always play because of the variety of holes. The resort is big and beautiful but now you need a wristband to gain pool access but the resort and course is great. Definitely recommend

Teed off this morning at 8:30 and paired with2 young guys (30 years old) who live by but have never played here before. They teed off from the golds and I decided to join them with my reasoning was that I could always move up one tee. From the gold tees it is a little over 6600 yards so a big jump in yardage for me. The course is in mostly good shape for being the summer, fairways are wide and really good shape not so much rough here except if you go left on some holes trees and junk would make it tough to find a ball. I did notice an unusual amount of water on the front side covering cart paths in bunkers which led me to believe it had rained there recently but I don’t think so must have been a maintenance problem. Hole 3 I think is the par 3 and there is a bunch of sand covering the cart path as you approach the green, so much so my playing partners got stuck. We got them out but it was very odd. Anyways there a few greens that are not doing so well but that is to be expected in the summer. The speed is also an issue it is a little slower now, why I don’t know but maybe they haven’t been cut recently but the ones not affected look nice but still roll on the slower side. The greens hold shots really well enough to make divots they just don’t release very much. Wasn’t in the sand but the ones that didn’t have water looked to be ok. The back nine I explained to them ( hackers) that I was moving up a tee and they said they would just stay back even though they couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat. The guys were more concerned about fishing on some the lakes than playing golf.. Silver lining was the cost was only 32.00 and given the layout and it is a real bargain. With all the shenanigans it only took 4 hours and li looked like we all had a great time.. For the money it’s a great deal if you’re in the desert..

Played this morning teeing off at 7:45 with a couple from Ohio John and Sue who were extremely pleasant to play with. I played the white/blue combo’s for a 6500 yard total. The temperatures have been down lately and when we teed off it was only 80 degrees. The course is in very nice summer shape now with some brown areas but overall it’s mostly green. Tee boxes were all nice and level and fairways were generous and great to play from however the rough hasn’t been mown so some parts of it are 6 inches plus so good luck on that one. Bunkers had white soft sand and easy to play from. Greens rolled great and I’m saying maybe a 10 with a little break. Overall we played in 3 hours so not too bad and I believe it was 42.00 to ride so even better. Great way to spend a morning and course is looking good right now. Recommended if in the area…

Played Navy Marine this morning with a retired Army friend. The course is east of Pearl Harbor on Navy Property but there are no guard gates to pass through. There is a driving range, restaurant and the golf course. Check in is simple, must be active or retired Military to play or have a sponsor with you. The course is very generous with wide fairways and smaller greens. Lots of left to right & right to left doglegs as the 1st tee is left to right. Not to much of rough to mention mostly mature and some newer ones that were planted recently line the fairways. Greens are firm but hold shots well and they roll well with a little break here and there. Wasn’t in any bunkers but sand looked soft and easy to play from. Not a lot of people playing this morning we teed off at 9am and finished at 1:00 . The restaurant isn’t any less expensive than other golf courses because beers were still 5 bucks but if you bought 5 it was only 20 dollars. Anyways I am always glad when they ask me to play there because I love the layout and the topography and you often see and hear F18’s flying over. I’m not sure what the military rate is but civilian rate over 60 is 65.00 and it’s a great course to play if you can get on..

Played Leilehua today just a day after they held a senior Hawaii state championship and the course was in beautiful shape. It is an Army golf course and I played with a friend of mine who is retired Navuy that’s how we got the time. For civilians the cost to ride is 68, or 58 if you are over 60 years of age. The course is longer than many courses here on the island and from the white tees it’s about 6500 yards but played a little closer today although not by much. There are a lot of doglegs both ways and the rough is still up at approximately 2 inches. Tee boxes are excellent and all level and fairways are excellent to play from and although they are wide there are a lot of trees here so anything off the fairway, good luck. Greens are nice and firm and still hold shots well they also roll exactly how you see them. There are not any overly difficult objects except maybe number 3 where this is a swale/creek near the green but nothing to worry about. Wasn’t in sand so no comment there. The military courses here are always in good shape and price wise they are a little more expensive than city owned courses but they are in line with what resort courses charge locals so every chance I get to play them I jump at the chance. Afterwards had a few beers and I commented on how good this place is. If you are in the area it’s highly recommended …

Played Hawaii Prince this morning teeing off at 8:30 and finishing at 12:40 so just a little over 4 hours. I played with 2 ladies and a man all from Canada and they were extremely nice and we all enjoyed playing. The course has 27 holes named A,B, and C along with a very good restaurant, driving range and a very good practice area. We played A and B and I played the whites for a total of 6250 yards and tee boxes are all level and divots were sanded in. Fairways are rolling hills but have generous landing areas but the course has some rough and several lakes which really don’t come into play unless you pull or push your drive or second shot depending on what hole you’re on. Fairways are easy to play from and the greens really roll true they aren’t that fast but I would say 10 on the stimp. Sand is very compact and you can hear the thump if you hit it right. The course reminds me of a Tustin Ranch more resort course than anything. It is about a 45 drive from Waikiki plus they have a package where the fee includes the shuttle from your hotel. For us senior Kamaaina folks it’s 55.00 I’m not sure what visitors pay, but I’m sure there are deals out there. Definitely recommended if you’re in the area..

Played Ala Wai Sunday afternoon on a cloudy but nice day. Teed off at 12:45 and finished in just under 4 hours at 4:40. I played with 2 guys and a lady neither spoke very good English but light conversations were had and they were very nice. Course is in good shape due to all the recent rains. The course is basically flat and walkable with not too much trouble anywhere except maybe 14 a short par 4 with a canal running between green and fairway, but otherwise it is very playable. Greens rolled well and a good time was had by all. No cart service here at all so bring your own or buy in restaurant before you tee off. Recommended if in town and don’t feel like driving to other courses…

Played Coral Creek today with a local club I joined called the Wahiawa Businessmen’s Golf Association it’s a group of guys aged 60 and over all thought they would invite anyone willing to play and we play every Thursday at different courses on the Ewa side of the island. This is only my second time playing with them mostly because I was busy surfing or playing tennis but now that I joined a group who has standing tee times I look forward to playing regularly. On to the course, they have a nice shaded covered driving range and I think it was 100 balls for 10.00 so that was great, practice putting green was good and check in was simple. For some reason today we teed of 10 so I’ll start from there. First off, no gps or modern conveniences on the carts so there’s that. If 10 tee box was representative of how the course was then I was in for a rude awakening. From the tee it’s a maybe 30 yards wide narrow fairway OB left and right so I decided to hit 3 wood and still missed fairway but kept ball in play. Most of the course has rolling fairways that are very nice condition saw most divots filled in and some tee boxes were not level but for the most part tee boxes were ok. Bunkers were nice but sand was a little too soft but still manageable to play from. Greens were great and speed was on the medium side maybe 10 or so. There are a few maybe 4 or 5 forced carries 100 yards or so from the white tees but there were a few short par 4 under 350 yards so that was a good thing but there was usually a hazard sand or a grass bunker that was between the tee and green. The only water I noticed was on a few holes but it didn’t come into play. Our Pace of play was about 4 hours 10 minutes so not too bad afterwards we all got (12 in the group today) together had a few beers and the lucky ones collected their winnings. As a newcomer they paid for the food and beverages which was very nice. The course is very nice but can be difficult because it puts a premium on driving accuracy and there are many elevated greens plus 20 mph winds can add up to a challenging time. I will definitely like to play this course again to figure it out and if you are in the area it’s a good challenge. It is about 40 minutes west of Waikiki if you’re in the area check it out… definitely recommended

Played the Los Coyotes outing on 3/13 got to say hi to Johnny and Ron and played with some really nice people.. We teed off on hole 2 of Lake and then were to rotate to play the Valley 9. As the announcer spoke saying we had 10 minutes left before teeing off he casually mentioned it was cart path only, ugh.. Anyways off we went. I like this course it’s very fair mostly but in light of all the recent rains in So Cal rough was a little high and if you sprayed it that made it tough to find your ball. Tee boxes seemed ok to me, fairways were great and some areas there was standing water so I guess they can justify the CPO. Green side bunkers were nice and all raked and I found the sand easy to play from and I was not in any fairway bunkers. I thought the greens were a little slower than usual maybe they haven’t been cut in a while but that’s just my opinion. Overall I enjoyed my day playing partners were great and even though it took about 5 hours I would love to play there again someday..
