Went out this morning at 7:30 with a good friend and played in just about 3 hours. The conditions are pretty darn good for the hot summer so far. My buddy and I were surprised that
hardly anyone was out there. They put a light sand down on the backside greens. They were on the slow side, the sand just made them a little slower. Tee boxes good, fairways good. Was in one waste bunker, but wasn't a problem. This course is always a challenge, wind or not and
with my new senior card, well worth the green fee.

Decided to give the "New" Sand Canyon CC a shot today. Since I live in Santa Clarita, I thought I'd shoot up and play the twilight rate. I don't think anything has changed since the 5/10 review by chipper28. First, the guys in the pro shop are great. It's still a work in progress.
The greens are still pretty darn good, just on the slow side. The tee boxes had not been cut for the week yet. You have to stay in the fairway because there is hardly any rough. With any speed, your ball will run off into the ground under construction or what baranca there is still left from last summer's fire.
You know, I always liked the Valley Course more than the Mountain and I think some of the changes are nice. They've taken out some bunkers that give you more choice. On the first hole
I swear they took out bunkers on the right. I cut the corner on the right of the first hole and had a sand wedge to the green. Due to the fire, they no longer have any brush on the left side
of #11. I always go left for some head case reason and sure enough, I was left again today.
But now, it's just a sand wedge hard dirt up and down. My driver and fairway woods were spot on so I scored well today.
I believe this course will be restored to past glory, but it is still months away. I was told by a member that a Hotel is going up and they will restore the first 9 holes of the Mountain to make
Sand Canyon a 27 hole resort.
I don't think the course is worth any more than the $35.00 twilight rate right now. As always,
stopped upstairs for a "Fat Tire" on tap. I'll always come to practice and hit balls there and at Vista but, I'm going to let a few months go by and see how the course gets thru the summer before I play again unless I get bored and play twilight again.

Played Encino yesterday with some friends. The greens were the best I've ever experienced there. The course is in pretty good shape for a municipal. They're suppose to aerate at the beginning of next month so if you want to play a course that's not to tough with great true running greens, get to it.

Played today early with three other friends. As I was driving south on the 5 fwy at 6am I was
contemplating even playing. Once there my premonitions were confirmed. It was soggy and wet. Typical wet conditions so we all decided to play lift clean and place in the fairway. As you would expect on a wet day, Wilson played even longer than normal. Tee boxes fair. Fairways
fair and greens a little faster than expected but slightly bumpy. All in all, soggy but still a fun
4 hour round. Hopefully, with all the rain we've had, if the money is in the budget for maintenance, the city courses could really be great in the coming months. There's always hope.

Played with 3 of my buddies on Tuesday the 6th on the SCGA $140.00 coupon that included a replay round. Right now the course is in pretty darn good shape. The coupon made it a great deal. The weather was perfect but standard with the breeze coming up in the afternoon round.
Not much roll on the fairways because I don't think they had been mowed for the week. Greens were soft but, Id say rolled at about 10.5. The sand was a little different I thought from fairway bunkers to green side bunkers. More of a dirt in the fairway bunkers. You don't want to be above the hole here. The views are always fantastic and I would suggest this course to anyone who wants to escape the heat and doesn't mind about a two hour drive from the valley.
My only negative is that this course seems to have my number. I love playing it but can't seem to score to my handicap.

Played this morning at 6:15 with two other buddies. They are tearing and punching the tee boxes so on about 1/2 the boxes, the markers were all together temps in front of the normal boxes in high crab grass. The fairways gave no roll due to not being cut. The rough was pretty penalizing. The thick crab grass just grabs your club. It's hit or miss with lies in the
Rough. The sand traps had decent sand but, often I find on city courses, they're seldom raked. Since you get no roll on the fairways and the rough high, the course, even though the tee boxes are up, it plays long. The pace of play was great, about 3 hours, 45 minutes. I've seen this course in better shape. In about a month after the tee boxes are done and reseeded, the course may be better.

Played on Monday deal of $60.00 on the Ike course. First, the customer service was very good. One of our foursome had to bail at the last minute and the course could have charged us for him but didn't.
On the golf. Even at $60.00 you can find a better deal. The greens are extremely slow. I don't even think they got around to mowing the 10 and 11 greens. They were even slower. You can tell the course gets a lot of play. Many ball marks on the greens. The pace of play was a little over 5 hours. I know people every once in awhile want to test themselves on a real challenging course and this place has always fit the bill. I shot 12 strokes over my handicap, but I anticipated that. The sand was pretty consistent but the fairways gave no roll due to wetness. Right now during the hot sticky summer months, I know it's a real dilemma for greens keepers to keep the courses in the type of conditions golfers want to play. I think I'll work on my game a little more and maybe come back in the spring for another try.

Played yesterday with my outstanding electric crew at 7:15am. Course is in pretty good shape. The greens were rolling true, a few ball marks that weren't repaired. Not a long course but the trees and bunkers are well placed to gobble up any errant shot. I found a few bunkers and thought the sand was quite consistent. The rough is not much higher than the fairways. The course makes you think. The undulating small greens are challenging. I really enjoy coming back to the Long Beach courses. It's nice to get out of the heat of the inland courses.

Played yesterday morning 6am. Greens in pretty good condition. Fairways were dry but wood let the ball run a little more. Pace of play about a little over 4 hours for a foursome. Great morning when everything is jellin.

Played 6:30am this morning with two of my good buddies. I was pleasantly surprised on how good of shape Rustic is in now. Tee boxes, very nice. The fairways are the best I've seen all year in this drought ridden state. The greens were very nice, holding shots. In fact, it through me off a little. Im used to approach shots running out here. Gorgeous morning, no wind until we about finished in about 3 hours 40 minutes.

Played early this morning, Dec, 30th. There was about an hour frost delay. Our group was first out at 7:30. This is only the second time I've played this course. The first time was about seven or eight years ago. I didn't know until today that I heard its run by the same company as Robinson Ranch, basically my home course. We finished in little over 3 1/2 hours. I really like this course. Very challenging but fair. I thought the course was in great shape considering what Southern California courses have gone through this year. The fairways were good with some bare ground under repair areas but other than that, the rough, bunkers and greens were really nice. The staff was awesome. We were down to short sleeves buy the back nine. If you can play for coupon rates, this is the best course I've played on my Holiday vacation.

Played very early Monday morning. I feel pretty much the same as MK who rated the course on the 6th. The fairways are pretty beat up and the greens had a layer of sand on them. I too get a little bent on how lazy some players are about fixing their ball marks on the greens. All in all I still like playing the course. The views are outstanding. The staff is great. I hope with some
decent rain all of the local golf courses get back to how the photographers shoot them on the websites come spring time.
