Got a morning time on Mothers' Day and got paired up with a brother twosome and another single. Hadn't been to Griffith Park since pandemic so was startled by check-in system, which did go very smooth.
Walked the blacks and was pleased by the conditions. Greens were a bit slow and putts were still be effected by recent aeration. Was in a couple of bunkers and there was a 50-50 chance on the quality of sand. There were few rakes to be found and that contributed to plenty of footprints left. Fairways, tee boxes and rough had decent coverage, but greenside rough/fringe were in well above average for coverage.

POP was great. Finished around 3hr 45min and didn't wait at all after hole 6 par 3. The group trailing us was at least a hole behind by the time we got to hole 6. Overall a great day with cool weather!

Played El Do (as they have on their tee markers now) late Saturday afternoon as a single and playing with another single. Starting around 4:30 got in 16 holes before the darkness took over.

The course was in good shape as the Long Beach Golf Festival activities continue through July. The par 3 tee boxes were a little bit scarred, but the fairways had good coverage and cushion in the landing areas and the rough have a mixture of thick and medium level grass. Only in one bunker and the sand was good quality.

The speed of the greens was quick. As it was late afternoon, I expected them to be slow and with late day growth. They were cut short with closely shaved fringes.

Overall, the course is in good shape and is well worth the price. As long as you play on a reasonable day or early time, the golf will be as good as it gets.

Played on Sunday, 5/27 with a mid morning round. Perfect golf weather with a slight breeze that came around in the afternoon.

The GOOD: Pace of play was at 4 hours with only minor waiting at a couple of par 3s. The cart girl made a couple of visits on both nines, which shows attention to golfers. Bunker sand was adequate. Greens were in good condition and consistent speed. Able to donate to local charity with par 3 tee shot within a circle (I won the free sleeve of balls). Course wasn't that busy for a Sunday morning; business was picking up by the time we left after 1 pm.

The BAD: Tee boxes were mostly chewed up and divot scarred. No golf hole map to give Geese and bird droppings on greens and tee boxes. Two faint chalk circles on par 3 green with charity contest option. Poor signage direction at a couple of crisscrossing holes and coming back across road.

The UGLY: Hit the ball in the middle of the fairway on hole #1; center of the fairway looked more like it should have been circled for GUR. There was hardly any good green grass coverage in the fairway and it was better to hit in the scruffy rough to at least have consistent cushion under the ball. Knowing that the course golf ambassadors are the ones manning the charity hole, either have them have some type of cheat sheet on the charity or at least have the prize redeemed in the pro shop so that the pro shop can give a decent spiel on the charity. Saw two bird carcasses on a couple different fairways.

I know that I played this course several years ago and I should have given it a poor review. It doesn't look any better and it still deserves a STAY AWAY. If it wasn't for the group outing, I would not have played the course. Even if I lived nearby and could play a casual round to practice on my game for $10, it would not be worth it. I would be frustrated and depressed by the poor conditions to feel I could get anything worthwhile out of the play.

Played Saturday, April 21. Surprised to see not too many golfers at 7 am at this golf course. I remember the days of large crowds and long waitlists for both courses. Maybe the LPGA in town took golfers there.
Overall course conditions were good, but for whatever reason, all tee boxes were hard and had 'dry matted' grass coverage. Greens speed was consistent and bunkers were OK.
Pace of play was good for that time of morning as finished in about 4.25 hours.

Played 10/4 Sunday morning. Expected rain, but got cloudy day with gaps of sunshine on the final nine. With the overnight rain and aeration from two weeks ago, I really believed the course was in very good condition. Fairways had good cover of grass and rough was fairly good. The course looked quite green and semi-lush considering the dry conditions.

Played Saturday morning (7/31) after Special Olympics World Games were done with the course. Had 6:30 am tee time and finished right before 10:30 am (great POP), even though group ahead fell at least 2 holes behind a foursome of women by the 10th hole.

Fairways and greens in very good condition and the rough was full and think in most places. Tee boxes were in good condition and luckily didn't find the sand, but bunkers looked OK. They got the course in good shape for the Special Olympics, so hopefully it shouldn't be that hard to maintain as well as replicate next summer.

Played last Saturday morning. The course is undergoing work on the tee boxes, a few cart paths and overall work in preparations for the Special Olympic World Games at the end of July. As previously reported, about two-thirds of the tee boxes are being worked on, so you get to play between 50-75 yards shorter on some holes or like the lower tee box on #4. Looks like they are trying to build platform tee box areas for most of the holes, similar to hole #16. Also, beware of medium and large sized rocks off the fairway which is probably a result of the tee box rebuilds.

Considering the drought, the rough is thicker and more prominent than I would suspect (especially in comparison to Rancho Park).

They expect the work to be done by the end of June to be ready for the end of July.

Played 5/12 in late afternoon and was unable to finish beyond 13 holes.
Great customer service in the clubhouse as was able to get me out right away and played with a couple of young golfers who knew the course.
The course looked great to me and played very fair. I was a bit intimidated by the closeness of the homes on the front side and was able to let it loose on the backside. Very good design of holes that allowed for good landing areas and aiming targets. Greens were slower because of lateness in day, but they look in great shape.

Would be willing to play again with my buddies and be able to enjoy the course and play.

Played the course on July 5 after an early morning drive. Thanks to the great staff and starter, I was able to get out on the course before 7 am as it was a busy day on the course. Also, I played with a few locals who knew the course, so their tips were helpful.

I like the links course with rolling fairways and Scottish-style burns to make the golf an enjoyable experience. While I had a yardage book that provided some assistance, the course has more than a couple of tricks up its sleeve to make it deceiving. I avoided plenty of fairway bunkers, was successful in greenside bunkers and putted extremely well considering. I walked the course and only needed a ride from my fellow golfers at the long turn between 9 and 10.

Something that was hard to get used to was the lack of targets to aim your tee shots, but other than that, the course, pace of play and experience was well worth the drive. Just like Rustic Canyon, I could play this course continually and not become bored as you can play it in a variety of ways.

Played on 3/19 in the midmorning. Was able to walk on as a single and was grouped with some great seniors. They are what made the round enjoyable and worthwhile.

I liked the layout and the course was challenging for shot placement and variety. The fairways were just fair, but the greens were good for a municipal course.

Played on Sunday, June 28. Got word that that course is closing on Monday, July 6 and I wanted to play the course before it went away. Considering the announcement came only 5 days earlier, the course was in great condition and the pace of play was a little slower than normal as more people were playing.

Normally, I walk, but playing any course for the first time, I don't mind riding. I got paired up with 2 locals who had only played the course once and got on to play the twilight rate with cart for $50 (non-resident rate). For that price, it was well worth playing. Local knowledge is helpful, and the afternoon wind can play a little havoc with all shots.

You have to be careful with all shots as the wayward shots can find the tall deep grass. Water only comes into play on a couple holes. Trees are not significant factor; however, side hill lies are fairly common as the course meanders up and down hills. Adding to the rolling nature of the course, most greens have slope and several have different tier complexes on the greens, so it is important to pay attention to the pin placement and the green diagram that is on the cart.

Great course, great views, and quite challenging - that is all one can ask for from their golf course.

It is truly a sad day when any golf course closes, and it is especially disheartening when a course isn’t given a chance to work its way out of its financial losses. Not only does the golf course lose, but the city and the community as 75 jobs (and families) are affected by the closure. Along with Cypress Golf Club and Cascades Golf Club (Sylmar), this is another local course that bites the dust.

Played Monday 9/1 and was lucky to get out early. Got around the qourse very quickly and played very well.

Overall, I was surprised with the conditions of the fairways. They were a lot brown in larrge patched that didn't seem to make any sense. I would have expected this in the San Fernando Valley courses due to the summer heat and the desire to conserve water, but with West LA being 20 degrees cooler, having fog laden mornings every now and then, I would expect even less than normal watering to keep the fairways mostly green. Hole #7 really brought it to my attention and hole #11 was just as bad, if not worse.

Usually, I rave about the condition of Rancho, but this time I can't.
