Played here 1/31/24. Love the layout! Many upcountry and coastline views. Requires strategy and execution. Lots of uneven lies. A few blind shots but even more if you don’t keep the ball in play in the right areas, hence the strategy. Nice mix of uphill/downhill shots and doglegs. If you have played Pete Dye courses you can see his signature all over this one! Signature 17th hole with island green…reasonable size target if you pick the right club. Saw lots of wild life, especially turkeys! I think this is a great value for the money. Greens were in good shape though I’m still mystified by people who don’t fix their ball marks. Traps could use some work(sand) and they need some new carts. But it is on my list to play every time I visit the Big Island.

Played here 2/13/24.Great time here. Fairways were lush with a few sketchy spots on some edges. Greens were quick and bunkers well groomed. Play moved quickly as we completed our round in 3 1/2 hours.

Some great ocean views on the course. More elevation changes than I expected. Staff was what you would expect from a resort of this caliber. To play well here you must be able to read the grain in the greens. Lots of uneven lies in the fairways those the landing areas were generous. Go to theor website an pd do the walk through for a better playing experience. It will hep you recognize something’s you wouldn’t catch with you eyes if you were playing here for the first time. Pricey but generally worth it.

This is a must play if you are on Kauai! It may be the best value in all the islands. It is a muni so don’t look for posh carts with rangefinders. Over the phone the staff seems very matter of fact but they are quite helpful when you get there. And don’t be fooled by the yardage, there is plenty of challenge. And the views of the ocean are the frosting on the cake.Greens rolled true but you better be able to figure out grain or end up with lots of 3 putts. I’d say the only “weaknesses” were some the traps didn’t have a lot of sand on the level lies, but I’ve found that on to be true even on more expensive courses since the pandemic. It was areal treat to play!

Played Rustic Canyon on 7/14. Course was in very good shape. Outward nine has subtle elevation changes while back nine changes are more dramatic. Need to take at least one more club on uphill targets. Plays like a links course with approaches to the green shave down to give you a variety of short game shots. Greens were in good shape but ran a little slow. Bunkers could use a little more sand. The only real drawback was that the back nine played a little slow. A marshal would’ve been helpful. It was well worth the drive.

My first time playing here. Course is tucked away in the Oakland hills. Nice design, layout. Greens were in good shape but most holes had very thin grass in the fairways and tee boxes. One of the few places I've been where they actually have sand in the bunkers.
I would not pay a premium to play here. Did play with a great guy from SF. Seems a lot of folks from the City come across to play here.

Disappointment on the first tee when they shared (after we paid of course) that they had punched the greens the night before!! BAD FORM!! While they made very small punches and said they had rolled the greens, it was not what you expected for that price and the trip of a lifetime...and you should give your customers a choice. Some greens had very sandy spots on them and the ball didn't hop too much but was a stark contrast to the day before at Spyglass. The other issue was being rushed at the 10th hole. We got out of position on ! hole because of not knowing the course hazards and the subsequent interference by the marshal was upsetting. The group behind us never caught up to us after 10 and we were maybe 1shot behind the group in front...but between these two issues, it truly killed the spirit.
Ok, it is still the premier experience in American golf...at least to my way of thinking. And it was awesome to play holes you have seen pros play for years. The fairways were lush and well defined. The pins were challenging but reasonable. There are tons of awesome views but don't get distracted by taking too many pictures or the views.?? because the course will eat your lunch. Just be honest BEFORE HAND PB management if there are unusual conditions.

Played on an overcast and fairly windy day (July 1). Greens were in excellent shape, ran pretty fast but very true if you could read them. Greens were firm; needed to play short of flag if possible. Must liberally club for wind or you will be disappointed. Fairways well defined and thick rough. Great treatment from staff and consistent pace once we got through the first couple of holes. Outstanding views and well-conditioned venue! Expensive but worth it...at least once.

Greens very spotty thru 1st 8 holes. Greens thin but ball rolled true. Back nine fairways better. Greens also better than front. Really nice layout. A shame to see the conditioning spiral down

What a gem!!!! The course had fallen on hard times during the recession but is clean and pristine. The design is challenging but fair, scenic vistas everywhere. The greens roll true - pick the line and trust it. They are also firm - you must hit short of the hole or with spin. The fairways are generous and rough that challenges you but is not penal. My favorite hole is #11 - downhilll par 5 that played into a breeze today. A stream runs down the left side all the way to the green culminating in a waterfall spilling into a lake left of the green. Tiered green that requires you hit to the right spot. There are LOTS of bunkers, but they are strategically placed and (unlike a lot courses I've played this year, even upscale courses) they have plenty of sand in them! Outstanding dirivng range where they tell you the actual distance to flags based on where they move the set-ups. Bar and restaurant serve delicious food. Staff is very accomodating. It is a ways out but well worth the drive! Several reasonable places to stay very close by. Wish I had stayed the weekend.

Very nice layout and mix of holes in terms of yardage and set up. First few holes have some blind spots that you could miss but for the most part everything is in front of you.
Fairways were in pretty good shape. A few spotty greens and a number which had not recovered from aeriation, especially the first. But the ones grown in rolled true. Not well conditioned yet but will be very nice when it is. Links style play.
