I've been a RSJ apologist for a while. Sure its not that interesting... or in good condition (to be fair the new owners/crew seem to be working in the right direction)... but its a good location and walkable.

They allow a particular group out around 11am on Sundays. Its a fivesome. They are slow. They had no one in front of them and forced everyone behind them into a 5 hour round. The marshals would do nothing because there are "ambassadors" - aka marshals - in the group. It was a quiet day on the course. Having to wait for these clowns on every tee is a joke when there are two open holes in front of them.

Not cool.

Played 9/5 and it looks like the new owners are dumping some money into the course and we're starting to see some of it pay off. Some re-sodding of fairways and tee boxes, the par 3 15th hole is set up as a temporary hole as they're re-doing the green (a common complaint of many players) and I heard they're going to completely re-do the clubhouse. I hope it returns to a fun and affordable track soon.

Is it currently worth the $60 weekend rate? Probably not. Not yet anyways, but the location is hard to beat in regards to convenience.

Good ol Ben Brown. Great little 9h course just off PCH at a small resort. Short par 4's and some long par 3's alternate for the very walkable 9 holes. As it resides in a canyon this course can get extremely windy, which to me makes it even more fun. Not sure if it's worth it at full pop, but a quick 9 after work? Worth the $30.

Played Sunday 4/25/21 teeing off at 11am - pace was slow (4h for a 3700 yard course is not ideal) due to some very beginner level golfers on the course despite Marshall's instructions to pick up the pace. Kind of expect it at a course like this, going to attract golfers who don't necessarily have the skill, or wisdom to pick up and drop further up when needed.

The money the city is investing is showing well. Greens have healed since aeration and were rolling true and smooth if a touch slow. Look forward to seeing what they do to the course, money seems to be getting spent a lot on the clubhouse but there are definitely improvements happening out on the course as well. Hope this turns into a gem of an executive muni. So far everything looks promising.

Played 4/14/21 - morning tee time with random group, POP 4 hours. Greens coming off aeration, fact of life, it's fine.

But my oh my has this course seen better days. Tee boxes and fairways are not in good shape at all. I was legitimately aiming for the rough by the end of the round as at least there was some grass there. Large portions of the fairway are just bumpy... nothingness. On the plus side, the one bunker I was in was even and soft and it appeared the groundscrew is getting ready for some major maintenance.

Also they were jackhammering the sidewalk by the restrooms on the course (behind 8 green, 16 tee box). Hopefully that's done soon.

$30 walking on a weekday isn't bad, but if you're a play-it-as-it-lies type of golfer like I am, I would avoid this spot for a bit. I hope they get it in good shape soon.

Played Sunday 3/28, greens look to be healing nicely after being punched a week ago. Some tee boxes here and there need some attention. The fairways are fine and the rough is relatively non-existent, just slightly longer fairway in most parts. POP was 5 hours, which is sadly to be expected on a weekend.

The layout is tight in some spots and more forgiving than it seems in others. Interesting green complexes, typical canyon routing so there's some drives between holes. While the par 5's are long, there's some high numbers that could be found if you do not execute the approach.

Los Lagos is in pretty decent shape all things considered. Played 3/7 and while slow for the first 7 holes or so it got a bit better and we finished in just under 5 hours, which in the OC on a weekend public course is average to good imho. Nothing too special regarding the layout, pretty standard fare for a decently priced track. A bit long for some and not enough bump up to the white tees which can be an issue on the lengthy par 3's. They seem to focus care on the greens which I guess is what you want, grass is patchy in some places but for where the course is located I'd say the course is on point in regards to value for your dollar.

Very walkable course as well, always a big bonus.

Shorter course than I remember except for the long par 3's. Good variety, good condition though the grass at the range has a strange feeling to it. Ball placement off the tee is important as there are often some very large bunker complexes where the ball likes to land. A handful of the greens were a little burnt and seemed inconsistent, though that could have been me.

Fun course from top to bottom, some holes rewarding driver and others requiring a well placed shorter tee shot. Lots of elevation changes as well and the course does well to give you some interesting shot shapes. When the tees are properly at the tips it is a much different course than the forward tees. Great practice area that's typically off of the grass as well as a good short game practice area.

Staff are very courteous and helpful and there are deals to be had for multiple rounds in a day via their occasional voucher program.

Played 1/28 (very windy!) - teed off within 5 minutes of scheduled start. Nice little grass driving range and the chipping/putting greens are in very good shape. Course is not too challenging, some interesting fairways that are essentially large ditches that can funnel your ball to the middle, or give you an above or below feet approach shot. Some of the tee boxes were in poor shape, same as fairways. Closer to the green things got better and the greens themselves were quite good.

Booked online at their special noon rate of $28 and it included cart fee. Would make the drive out again to play.

This course is very short, even by executive standards, I think. Grass is in surprisingly good shape, greens rolling pretty well as of 1/21/18. Bunkers were very damp and uneven. Foot and disc golfers running around as well, but overall a decent experience and course. Biggest issue is the tee-boxes. They are in bad shape.
