Played it with six friends on a Thursday, we all thoroughly enjoyed the round. We played it in a little under four hours. The course is in great condition, as always, and the greens have fully recovered from aeration. The staff are real pros and the best at what they do to keep the course in such great condition. The best public course in SoCal, tied with Rustic Canyon in Moorpark in that regard, in my opinion.

Really enjoyed our round at Rams Hill on a very windy day, mostly 2-club wind with 3-club wind on the last 6 holes. The wind didn’t matter, it was still a glorious day on a gorgeous course. The course conditions have improved a lot since last year when the fairways were subpar. Way mo better this year.

The 3 opening holes are tough, with the triple whammy of long, uphill and into the wind.

But the course opens up after that, …offering a nice mix of long and short par-4s, and enjoyable par-3s and par-5s.

The layout is engaging and the service by the staff is outstanding as usual. We’ll be back.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed playing Olivas Links for the first time on Friday June 24, 2022. It’s a new favorite and we’d gladly make the 2-hour drive from our hometown to play it again, and would probably stay in a hotel or Airbnb room to play it early the next morning, as we did this time. Loved the layout and how green and lush the course is, no complaints about anything. Played it in 4 hours with two elderly gentlemen starting at 6:30, and the round flowed smoothly with no waits. Great practice chipping area and bunker, who cares if it doesn’t have a proper clubhouse, we don’t.

Played Santa Anita for the first time yesterday and … never again. I never regret playing and exploring a new course but this one is one of the worst I’ve played in a long time.

The greens are crap, the fairways are artificially undulated for no good reason with many high mounds placed in all the wrong places, and the wait time between shots was ridiculous. We waited 15 full minutes at one par-3 tee box. The 5 hours felt like we were on the Bataan Death March.

Also, how can the slope from the whites be 115 when you have par-4s of 401, 397, 427, and 419 yards, with high mounds in the middle of the fairways that prevent a free roll of the ball, and par-3s of 181, 200 and 178 yards? Really? 115 slope? That makes no sense at all.

The few short par-4s are not enough to bring the slope rating that low.

I’m sorry, I can’t think of anything positive to say about the round other than it was a beautiful sunny day and if you want to give the course credit for this that’s fine.

Played Firecliff for the first time on Tuesday June 30, 2020. The greens were supposed to have been punched with small holes the week before and we were ok with that, but what we found were patchy and bumpy greens that are discolored in spots and super slow. The layout itself is great a lot of fun to explore, and everything else other than the greens was fine.

The bunkers were consistently good, not much rough to speak of and the tees were adequately maintained. The cart girl swung by twice during the round.

We’re playing the Mountain View course tomorrow Thursday and we were assured the greens will be better since they were punched two weeks before that. We’ll see, although I think the problem with the greens at Firecliff was not the fact that they were punched but rather that they look and feel almost burnt out.
