Walked from the white tees today with the grandson, teeing off just before 8:00 am. The range was closed in the morning but was open when we were finishing. They sent us out as a twosome. It was a slow day, with us finishing in 4:50. Part of that was because it was cart path only for carts. The course was crowded. It looked like the ladies' club was teeing off at 8:00 am and was still sending groups out when we made the turn 2.5 hours later. There were three groups waiting on tee on the par three third when we made the turn, so it was probably slower after us.

The course was as wet as I have ever seen it, even though it had been several days since the last rain. The fairways were really shaggy at the start but they were mowing them around us. One problem was that some of the fairways were still flooded in part so they cannot mow them entirely. The right side of the #9 in the landing area and the left side of the #18 beyond the cross bunker were two examples. There was evidence of a flood from the restroom building next to the 13th tee extending about 150 yards diagonal down the hole and ending in the middle of the fairway. There was still water pooling in that fairway. As would be expected, the rough was gnarly and wet. We had to search hard to find our balls and the grandson lost a couple. The bunkers are in bad shape with erosion areas in some and pools of water in others. I hit out of one and it was hard pan.

The good news was the tees were okay and the greens were great. The greens were quite quick and running smooth. Even with the damp conditions, I found the course playable. I was only in bad conditions off the tee a couple of times. We did not need to play lift and clean. I had a good time. That said, I would give the course a few days to dry out though if I had a choice where to play.

After many days of rain, and maybe 12 hours of no rain, the course was in decent shape. cart path only, range closed. drains ok, not a lot of standing water in the fairway. bunkers were gur... basically lost ball in the water. Greens not too bad... seemed like they were able to mow the greens and they ran a fast 9, slow 10... I could see how if they were running fast, the greens would be difficult to putt. Was glad to get some golf in, even in wet conditions. didn't rate due to rainy conditions.

Played Wednesday, October 29, in the early morning. Walked the Blue tees with a twosome and another single. Nice pace of play at less than 4 hours.

Played Wednesday, October 29, in the early morning. Walked the Blue tees with a twosome and another single. Nice pace of play at less than 4 hours.

The course was quite wet. There was a heat alert for the day so it likely was because of that, but it made the course play longer. The bunkers suffered the most from that with some water pooling at the bottoms of a couple and heavy, wet sand in most. The fairways were good with some bare spots. Rough was a factor with some thick areas capable of hiding balls. On 18, I did not see the ball after my second shot until I was within 10 feet of it. The greens were still recovering from aeration earlier this month but they were running at nice speed and were pretty firm. Quite a few bumps still though.

The greens should be completely healed within two weeks although the course is playable now and I may be back before then.

Played Sunday, October 5, around 7:00 am. Started late after they put a gap group in front of us and they were a hole behind after one hole. About the 5th hole though, they took off and started playing at a good pace. It was like a tag team and a group that had an interest in pace substituted in. Ended up being a 4 hour pace. Snack shack was open when I we went by after the 2nd hole, nice to see as it was not open early the last couple of times I played here. I made sure to buy something when we made the turn to give positive reinforcement for the good behavior.

I knew from Greenskeeper that they had punched the greens on Monday and Tuesday. It was a heavy punch. Interestingly, the greens were still pretty firm. Lots of hops and change of direction to the putts. I thought they were faster than the practice green. The fairways were pretty tight, almost winter like condition with some bare spots (looking at you #16). There is quite a bit of lush rough but also some areas with bare spots. I had a couple of nasty lies, on dirt between clumps of grass. The bunkers were also a mixed bag including several that had insufficient sand. I was in one fairway bunker (#13) where a heavy rake job left me with a teed up lie. I lost no yardage on the shot, ending up in the back bunker that had less sand than the fairway one. At least this time here I did not end up near one of the crazy steep edges they bunkers have (last time here I had to play a bunker shot on my knees outside the bunker, lunging down at the ball). The tees were lush and level.

Overall, not as good tee to green as I have seen it and the aerated greens are what you would expect from the large punch. I enjoy Lakewood but I may delay my return until the greens heal.

Had not played Lakewood for a while, so nice to return. Stange how the older I get, the longer the golf course gets! As stated in the last review, the fairways are not exactly conducive to roll, so that made the course play even longer. Greens were the best part of the course, although not as good as expected. The worst part was my senior discount card had expired, so the additional $$ was tough to take. They will be punching greens in a couple weeks - FYI.

Played Tuesday, September 9, around 7:30 am. We started on time and played in 3:55, nice pace. Sometime I am going to remember that the driving range is closed on Tuesday am. I had to work out my issues on the course, which did not help my score. Professional starter who dealt expeditiously with an issue on the first tee. The snack stand was not open when we went to #3 but it was open around 9:30 am when we made the turn.

The course is in pretty good shape. The fairways were shaggy. I had to laugh on 14 when I tried to figure out if I was in the fairway because I realized I had not been in the fairway much before that so I did not have much frame of reference. The answer was, yes, but the grass was so long it was not easy to be sure. I think it was more shaggy on the back nine than the front. The rough was lush and definitely a factor. I was in the sand a bunch and they were a mixed bag. Thin mud in at least one and nice sand in a couple of others. The tees were good. The greens were good also although I have seen them better. Certainly they can be faster, they were medium or a little faster as the day got hotter. They were also hand watering them so that may be a reason they were slower than expected.

Overall, I have seen it better but I have also played on worse lately. I had a good time and will be back.

Played Thursday 4/10, our twosome joining a visiting single player. Fairly slow POP (4:20), probably to be expected considering a start near 8:00 am. Efficient service including a starter on the tee making sure the groups were on the tee when required. The greens were still showing some signs of aeration. The first two showed very little getting our hopes up but there were many greens where the holes were evident. That said, I was pleased with how they rolled. Medium speed or faster and no major bumps or turns. As the ball slowed it tended to wander but nothing out of the ordinary. They were also pretty firm considering the major holes. They were very playable. Fairway and rough were pretty good. The only complaint was the bunkers. I was in two with little sand (left on #1 and left on #10). I could not get the club under the ball on either. I recommend the course right now. It will get better when the greens are fully healed but it is good as is.

Our experience today at Lakewood 3/18 was about as expected for a course that was doing a major punch and sanding of the greens. Communication was great. We were aware last week when we booked so we took it in stride. We received a small bucket and a free beverage as compensation for dealing with the maintenance. That said, there were large punch holes and they were heavily sanded. Was it awesome? No. Was it communicated? Yes. Will it make the course much more enjoyable for the summer? Heck yeah. Can't wait to come back once the greens have healed.

Course is in good shape for this time of the year. The teeboxes are ok, some bare areas, but to be expected. The fairways are in good shape and no bare sports (some ate the front), the greens are in good shape. The greens are what makes this place hard, pretty fast. There is a yardage dfference when playing blues.
