Played Friday morning 5/26/2017 7 am tee time as a single. Had a twosome in front, two some in back, we were trailing a senior 5 some. Really had to wait very little.

Played on my players club rate of 5 dollars using the gift card my daughter gave me for my birthday. Should keep me playing through June.

Pro shop was friendly and efficient. Walked on at 7am. Tee boxes didn't appear to have been changed from Thursday and were badly chewed up.

Fairways which you really shouldn't have to hit from except on 5 and 9, were in good shape, with good coverage

Very little rough, one inch if that. Bunkers were well groomed but wet and crusty.

Greens were in very nice shape, with a few unrepaired pitch marks, and one green had sunflower seeds on it. (by the way sunflower seeds on the course, especially the greens is really becoming a hot button for me).

Round took about an hour, was fun. Hard to complain given the price and location a 1/4 mile from my house.

Thursday 04/13/2017 – Tee Time 2:30 pm walk-on. Pace of play for 9 holes chasing a twosome followed by a single, 1 hour 10 minutes. Temperature during the round was 68 degrees. Player’s club rate of $5, drink included.
Looking out my home Zen room window around 2:00 O’clock in the afternoon noticed that the wind had started to come up, I decided to head over to my home course Lake Forest Golf and Practice Center to get some work in with my wedges and distance control in the wind.
The course was not very busy, the driving range however was full. I was able to get out as a single.
Tees were thin and significant divot damage. As I was working on my wedge game and was not using tee’s this presented a challenge. Diviot mix on most tees were empty and indications were that the early crowd had been using the divot mix. Tee boxes were level.

Fairways were brownish, winter looking and alternately thin and lush with a wide variety of grass types, and weed types. This only becomes an issue on holes 4 and 9, as the fairways are not supposed to come into play on the rest of the holes.
Rough, there really is no rough on the fairways. Rough around the greens and bunkers were lush at 3-4 inches in spots.

Bunkers were full with soft sand. I was in a pair of bunkers, both were in good shape, however the bunker to the left of the 8th green had some fairly large rocks in it that had to be removed before I would play my ball.
Greens were in good shape clean with some ball mark damage as one would expect towards the middle of the day.
The fourth hole is back in operation. During the rebuild post rain they have made it more diabolical with a defined slope towards the creek, and it seems to be narrower.
The attendant in the pro shop was friendly as was the marshal at the first tee. The restroom facilities could have used a little attention as could have the divot mix bottles on the tees, but in all I am very appreciate to have the course and range less than a ¼ mile from my house, and open until 10pm.

Decided since rain was predicted for Wednesday, Thursday and the end of the week I would squeeze in a little golf well it was dry. Closed the shop early and walked on at Lake Forest Gold and Practice Center for nine holes.

The driving range and putting green were busy as I headed out at 4:00 pm, but the course was light. A twosome in front of me, and a single behind me. I played alone. The single behind me and I joined up at the 7th as we waited for the pair in front of us playing multiple balls.

The course is short 2230 yard in all. It was playing it's full length today as all the tees were at the tips. From this rarely seen location all tee boxes were level and lush, the course hasn't seen much traffic in the rain. The angles were favorable. Fairways were a mix of browns and green, with the 9th fairway in particular looking like an experiment in different grass and weeds. Fairways on most of the holes don't really come into play, the exception being the 5th and 9th and they were good.

I wasn't in a sand trap but they looked fluffy in not damp, and in good condition. The greens were in good condition less some unrepaired ball marks, about half were covered in a fair amount of leaves. They were surprisingly firm and fast. There was very little rough around the collar of the greens, perhaps an inch at most.

The 4th hole is under repair, the light is down, and there was no pin, so I passed it by.

A number of trees have been cut down, which helped improve the sightline.

We finished as the sunlight was running out, the lights had not come on, appears they weren't going to keep the course open after dark.

Nice day to play golf 55 degrees, no wind, good course, enjoyed the 8 holes I played. For $5 with a bottle of coke it's really hard to beat.

Over priced, but better than waiting in the car!

Played Sunday 06/12/16 - In a word don't play this course on Sunday if you can help it. The staff was great from the pro shop to the marshal's but this facility has disc golf and foot golf, and they all come out on Sunday.

Got my work done early thought I would catch 9 holes in the late afternoon tee'd off at 2:30pm, $5 for the round and a Coke Zero.

I was stacked up behind 8 foot golfers a two families and kids immediately ahead of me. They offered to let me play though, but there were two foot golfers in front of the, a twosome of a man and a woman. Woman was a new player the guy was instructing and having her hit multiple balls. This really got bad on the Par 4 5th over water. Neither was any good, but they were having fun it seemed. In front of them was a foursome, and threesome all backed up. I had a two some of foot golfers behind me.

Except for the one twosome learning the game and hitting multiple shots backing up the world, the groups were friendly but so slow over an hour for 3 holes, that I walked off the course after the 5th, because I just couldn't concentrate watching soccer balls flying around.

I have not learned not to play this course on Thursday mornings, college class, high school players followed by a skins game, and Sunday's. For a couple of bucks more I can play Casta del Sol.

Played 5/12/16 teeing off a little after 6pm. Tried to play this morning as a walk on at 8am, was unable as it turns out that a college group and class group plays every Thursday morning. Came back to play at 5:30pm, had to wait for three groups on the tee to go off before I could play. The backlog remained thought the round, usually sitting behind at least two groups. Being the end of the day tee boxes were chewed up, fairways were good, mowed tight, with lush rough. Greens were in good shape over all but some where heavily ball marked. Unfortunately I sampled a couple of bunkers, the sand was fluffy, and well groomed. It was a nice evening with some nice people, good players, (not me) but still the round for nine holes took more than 2 hours. Still with Players Club cost was $5 with a Coke Zero included. Side note the practice center has an optional grass driving range. When I was there this morning they had torn out most of the grass for the range, and by this evening the entire teeing area had been re-grassed. They had leveled the tee box, and it looks great.

Played Lake Forest Golf and Practice Center 4/22/16 as a single walk up at LFPC Players Club $5 with drink, tee time 8:30 AM. Round took just under over an hour, with one group two holes ahead, and a single behind.

Fairways are a mixed bag of hard pan, bare, and grass. But there are only two holes where your actually supposed to be in the fairway. The rough is penal, mostly because it's spidery and seems to always be against you.

Greens were clean, few ball marks, but are still showing the signs of recent aeration. They rolled true, only slightly sandy, but I personally couldn't judge the speed. Pin placements were challenging hiding next to water on down slopes, back fringe or behind bunkers.

Tee boxes were pretty chewed up, even using a tee. the amount of divots made getting comfortable footing a little more work than I would have liked.

The bunkers were a highlight, great fluffy sand, well raked, no rocks.

There was a lot of staff out doing everything from cleaning ball washers, picking up litter, to fixing divots. Each was pleasant, downright friendly, and added to enjoyment of the round.

It was a great round of golf despite my poor play.

Tee'd off at 10:45 am - 04/13/16, beautiful weather approx 70 degrees. Used my Lake Forest Players Club membership and paid $5 for the round, and they threw in a Coke Zero.

The golf gods smiled on me. No one in front of me as I tee'd off. The next group was already on the 5th hole, would not have to wait for anyone until the 7th hole, as the guys who were on the 5th when I tee'd off replayed the closing 3 holes. Waited about 2min at the 7th and 3-4 min at the 9th. Had no one behind me the entire round. Marshall was out and about really nice guy named Al.

Course condition was fair. The tee boxes were pretty chewed up on most holes, and slightly un level, lumpy on a couple. I was working on a change in tee'ing strategy (which worked) so wasn't concerned with the ground condition in relation to the ball, made a little more difference to footing.

The greens had recently been punched and were mostly level and smooth, running medium speed. All of the greens had a fair amount of deritis be it leaves, or on the 5th sunflower seeds, but were playable for punched greens. I only missed two greens in regulation, but was only able to convert 2 pars.

Fairways and bunkers looked nice, the first cut around the greens was thin and sandy, the second cut and the rest of the rough looked like it could cause problems around 3" but I was never in it.

In all a great day to practice the short game.

Played 04/04/16 - tee'd off just after 8am. Pace of play was slow, the course backs up at the two par 4s, and the senior groups out early were playing slow. The course itself was in fair winter conditions. The greens were pretty good, and rolling very fast. Few bare spots, and few ball marks. The sand traps were in fair to good condition, with plenty of sand, but few rakes. This may have been the cause for so many bunkers being unraked. I only ended up in one, but having worked Bunker Buddies at the Torrey Pines event, I know look at them very differently.
The Tee Boxes were the portion of the course in the worst condition, unlevel, poor coverage on some, and lumpy. This was particularly troublesome on a couple of holes, were the preferred tee location put your feet below the ball.
Marshal was very pleasant as were the pro-shop staff. The round at this time would have been $12 as an over 55 Senior, but I chose to buy the Players Club $29 for the month. This gives me a large bucket of balls every day which can be converted to a grass bucket for $2, which is also the price for using the chipping area. A round any time of day during the week is $5 for players club members.
In addition to the Lake Forest Golf and Practice Center my membership can be used to book rounds online at Casta Del Sol. Looking online there were early morning rounds for as little as $3 at Casta, to the more average $15.00 for 18 holes. Well see how this works.
