Played Sunday 6/24 $55 online deal @ 12:48 as a foursome. POP under 4 hours, that's really good. Pretty much a mixed bag regarding the condition of the course. Tee boxes a little to lush, rough was way inconsistent, fairways provided perfect lies, fairway bunkers where like concrete, never seen grass growing out of bunker before, greens way to soft and spongy, bumby and slow. I struggled all day to get my putts to hole. Don't know why the greens were so soft. There are some good holes out there, one thing for sure you don't want to be spraying your driver out there, hazards everywhere. I'll think I'll stay away from Talega until they can somehow firm up those greens.

Played today 6/8/18. Course is in overall good condition. There are some sand traps that are under repair like the green side bunkers on hole #2. Greens were a med roll. Overall good round at POP of less than 4 hours. Staff always friendly.

Conditions were good yesterday 6/2/18. Greens were a little on the slower side but roll was true. Some fairways are in need of aeration I think.

Played 5/7. Greens are plush with punch marks still visible. Greens were extreamly slow and new to be cut. Appears that course was designed to allow players to bounce their shots up onto the greens but grass area in front of greens are often wet and soft so ball does not release up onto the putting serface. Better maintainance is required in those areas
For better concistancy. Overall I would rate the course a good value and nice place to play.

The greens have healed nicely. They’re a bit slow, but rolled true. Tee boxes are in really good condition. A few fairways are soggy/muddy. Sand is getting better, but still hard pan on more than a few holes.

Course was relatively empty. Played multiple balls the entire round. Had a good time, and I didn’t get stung!

Played Talega this morning Feb 24. One hour frost delay but they called at 7:30 to tell us that there was a frost delay. This call was much appreciated - good customer service. The good news is that the greens were in great shape. They were smooth, every putt rolled true, and medium to fast. Fairways were not so good. A bit worse than typical winter conditions, with some very tight lies. Bunkers are poor, mostly hard pan; a long history of bad bunkers here. Tee boxes were just OK. Overall a C-minus. Playable but just OK.

Played yesterday and check in was swift and pleasant. Driving Range is approximately 1/4 mile away from the pro shop and the Range balls are not all that good, if fact pretty bad shape. Surprisingly being an Orange County Course. As for the Course the fairways are pretty much beaten up and in poor shape. Tons of divots throughout the course. Greens were not cut that morning and ran really slow but in decent shape. Sand bunkers were also in decent shape. Some holes had Sand in them and others did not. Tee Boxes were ok but at least even. Front side 9 runs though the housing neighborhood while the back 9 runs though the canyon (very scenic) . Big difference between the 2 nines. I liked the lay out but it can become most difficult if you haven't played this course. Except for the fairways being in poor shape I rate this course a 7 out of 10 being best. Use golf balls you don't mind losing on the Back (Canyon side). There are a lot of Force carries over canyons from some tee boxes in the back.

Played Talega on 1/17/18. Although Talega is my "home" course, I haven't been playing much locally, and it has been 3 years since I've been here. Surprised to see a bunker reduction program in the works. Several bunkers have been removed, and several others have been reduced. A bit sad for me, as I loved the original design with beautiful white bunkers everywhere. I hope you had a chance to play Talega in it's first 5 years, it was magical.

On to the changes - some of the bunker removals make sense, especially the one where the blind tee shot on 15 tells you to hit at the aiming pole which sits right behind a bunker. Nice drive....SURPRISE! That one is now grass - good change. Some obvious fairway bunker removals & reductions will help players quite a bit.

On to conditions - good winter conditions. Greens are nice, soft, a bit slower than usual which is good. Fairways are good, generally green with better than average grass coverage. Rough is decent, but choppy in places. Bunkers are decent, play better than they look.

Still an excellent layout in good condition, and a recommended play.

Looking to avoid frost, decided to give Talega a try. I'd called and was advised they were very busy, but if I was willing to tee off before 6:20am, it would be OK. Hit that first shot right at 6:20 - it was still dark, and rather cold (40 degrees), felt like there was some frost, but I guess not so bad that they would delay play.

Fairways were very thin. Rough was hit/miss depending upon where the ball settled. The greens which were mowed were great. They rolled true and were reasonably quick, but I had only two mowed greens after I passed maintenance on #7, so the remainder were slow, and rather bumpy. Not in any bunkers, but they appeared OK. Tee boxes were for the most part pretty decent.

I enjoy Talega, plus the staff is ALWAYS accommodating. I never have an issue getting out early here. Senior rates are now lower than either Tijeras Creek and Arroyo Trabucco, so I suspect I will revisit a bit more often in the next year.
