Played Sat 4/6, 9AM with SBogey. The course was decent today. It's just your basic no frills, nothing too unusual kind of course. Managed by Billy Casper. The fairways were overall in pretty poor condition- very patchy and lumpy. Hard to find a level lie even in the middle of the fairway! The forward tee boxes were horrendous- very uneven and bumpy. The others looked about the same. The greens were in pretty nice condition- smooth and well groomed. Fast in the morning and slower in the afternoon. Saw the greenskeeper on several greens fixing ball marks- that's a first for me! The sand was interesting- wet and in some cases a little packed but overall very fluffy and decent considering how wet they were. (it was overcast and foggy which contributed to the damp) The layout wanders through neighborhoods and is generally quiet, calm, and pretty. The cart girl, Erika, was very friendly. We only saw her once on the front 9 but many times on the back 9. The course could've used a marshal today- the front 9 were fine but when we pulled up to #10 there were three groups waiting!! Eventually someone called and complained and they sent someone out to try to speed it up. It was only moderately effective. 4 1/2 hour round isn't good for this course. Staff in the pro shop were friendly and helpful! For those who ask- YES there's a driving range- off of mats, up high hitting over a canyon-like setting. Nice large putting area. Small but adequate chipping area.

A few of our guys like it here but I have very mixed feelings, but for $27, what the heck?

My reasons:
1. Fairways are always very poor. We play here about 3-4 times a year and I would honestly say we have not had good lies in the fairways for over two, (2), years! Very thin or non-existent grass. When it is in a lush state, (mainly around early summer), they are cut too long and still have far too many bare spots.
2. Greens are usually OK but a little bumpy. Yesterday they were as good as I've seen them, but uphill putts had to be pounded to reach the hole do to some pretty severe slopes and grain that always seems to run downhill. Downhill putts can be very fast though.
3. Rough was very patchy and almost indiscernible from the fairways. The main difference from the fairways though was that you could be on dirt between clumps of grass, like the fairways, but the clumps are taller in the rough. Yuck.
4. Bunkers are always the best part of the course. Excellent sand to play out of and very consistent.
5. Tee boxes are always an issue here as they are seldom level with lots of thin areas. Yesterday was no different.
6. The layout is very interesting with no two holes alike. Water comes into play big time on five holes and the very subtle elevation changes can fool you on a few shots.
7. Customer service is very good here and is probably why I keep going back, plus the price appeals to more than a few of us.

If they could ever (properly) grow grass here, I would change my opinion, but I'm still waiting for that day. Lift, clean and place is highly recommended!

Played 12/22 in a GK cup match. First time here, so I don't know what the course conditions typically are, but today they were not bad as a whole. The tee boxes were cut tight and semi-dormant, lies were good. The fairways and rough were both in pretty good winter condition, some bare spots but nothing major. The rough was pretty evil in spots. The bunkers were a mixed bag, either soft, firm, rocky or all three at once. The greens probably take a few rounds to get used to...I could not figure the speed out at all today. Generally they were slow uphill and very fast downhill, but hard to gauge from green to green. Customer service was good. Only major complaint I have is the abundance of unraked bunkers and ball marks out there. The layout is pretty straightforward, no big surprises, just good old point and shoot golf. I would play here again.

Played here this morning. Things were a bit disorganized early in the morning as groups were lining up on the first tee. After several had already gone off the starter came out and finally got things more organized. He paired me with a twosome and we teed off about 7:10. The pace felt relatively slow for an early morning round, but we finished in about 4:15, so not awful as busy as it was out there.

Previous posts have mentioned some waterlogged areas on this course. By "some" it pretty much meant the entire course this morning. It was a really foggy morning, but the course was super soggy throughout. Fairways were either shaggy and soggy or thin and muddy. Many areas that would be considered "standing water." The rough was medium length, but tough with the wet conditions. Plenty of bare and patchy areas throughout the fairways and rough, but nothing too bad. Just so soggy it really made for a sloppy round. The greens have mostly recovered from recent aeration, but they are spongy and slow. A lot of unrepaired and poorly repaired old marks made for some bumpy putts. I was in one bunker and it was fine. Overall, I was little disappointed in the conditions, though.

The layout is fine. More residential than I expected and the fog obscured any of the surrounding views of the mountains for most of the round. The back nine layout is more interesting and enjoyable than the front, but that's not saying too much. Overall an OK course that would probably be better enjoyed in the afternoon right now if you want to avoid at least some of the sogginess.

One thing to note is it's hard to lock in a tee time here as a single because their GolfNow times are always jacked up and their website doesn't allow for singles. However, the online tee time deals are always better than the rack rate, which bothered me. I called ahead yesterday and the pro shop girl just told me to book a twosome on their site (no booking fee) and it wouldn't be a big deal if I showed up as a single. I don't really like doing that, but that's what the course actually suggested. It was worth it because I paid only $37.50 instead of the $56 they would charge me if I just walked on. They didn't raise an eyebrow when I checked in as only a single. Whatever works, I guess. They also have coupons directly on their website, so there are deals to be had.

20Sep12-Twosome. Yucaipa has always been a favorite because of price, service, and quality. In the past year, the quality of the course has improved dramatically. My ratings for greens are primarily due to the players' inattention to repair pitchmarks, not the quality of greenskeeping. The fairways on Yucaipa are decidedly different than in the past - even during 2011. Grass is no longer patchy, fairways are not hard. (My drives and fairway shots do not roll 30-50 yards now, as they did before.) Therefore, the challenge level of the course has improved upwards. One must be more aware of wet spots when driving the golf cart, to avoid unnecessary damage to the course. In fact, on hole #1, I hit my 3rd shot to the green, and found myself splattered with muddy water. Not the course's fault; I should have been on in 2, right? The service staff has always been commendable, from the pro shop to the snack bar to the cart barn. And the cost? Hmpf! You won't find a better value. Every bit is top notch. And the wildlife, especially the ducks, are fun to watch. Just be careful... they'll bother you, even when you're on the tee. Don't feed 'em; they learn fast, you know.

Played 9/18 at 8:37am ($27). Range was closed for mowing. We arrived early and they just told us to go when ready. We arrived at first tee and saw 2 twosomes in front of us. We asked if we could start on the back 9 and they were cool with it. We finished in a little over 3 hrs.
Tee box: pretty hacked up. especially on the par 3's
Fairway: Lush but composed of a combo of grass and weeds (does that make sense). Course was wet and muddy in areas. I used to remember in the summer that the ball would roll forever on the hard packed fairways. Not the case this time.
Rough: Pretty thick in most places. Hard to spot the balls because they would just sink down.
Sand: Hard and packed.
Greens: Lots of unrepaired divots. Were inconsistent from green to green. Balls were holding though.

I basically played here cause all of my other favorite courses in the area was unavailable. The pros included that I finished in record pace. The course wasn't in horrible condition. Plus they have GPS. I would return if faced with a similar situation.

Played this course on Friday. Bad news was that we were playing behind a five-some that was the end of a skins game, and though it was slow we still finished in about 4 1/2 hours. But in review of the course itself,Very nice golf course. Overall in very good condition. Had punched the greens with the tiny holes so most of the time you didn't notice. enjoyable course, especially when the wind is not blowing. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Kudos to the staff.
Would recommend this course to anyone.

Played the course last week and must say they’ve done a great job improving the conditions for the Nationwide qualifying on April 2nd. Greens running fast, smooth and FIRM. Fairways could be better. Still thin in some areas but much improved from when I played over there last month. The greens are going to be quite a test for the pros. Should be interesting.

Hard to express my disappointment with the course. Played 1/14/12 and found the conditions atrocious. The fairways had a lot of dead grass or no grass at all. The best lies were in the rough as they were the only areas you could find grass. The bunkers were wet to the point of having standing water in them. There has not been any rain in weeks so why the bunkers were full of water is beyond me. There were also areas that were muddy in the rough or near it. It seems the watering is getting everything except the fairways. The greens were fast but inconsistent. Though it made for tough putting the greens were the only decent aspect of the course. My opinion of Billy Casper management has gone totally down the drain. Always liked this course but not now. Will find it hard to want to play here again.
