Day two of my Borrego trip. The guys in my group were burned out from Rams Hill yesterday, so I called the pro shop here and they were able to get me right out as a single. Made it through 14 holes before a shotgun started, the round lasted just over two hours with the last four holes taking almost as long as the previous 14.

I really enjoyed this course. It's got a very old school resort vibe and layout, with excellent conditioning throughout. A couple greenside bunkers were too firm, and the greens could have been a little faster, but overall I was very happy with the track. Just about everything is out in front of you with no surprises, and the greens don't have many undulations...so there are plenty of scoring opportunities. This is a great course to go low on, which I feel is a hallmark of resort style courses. The $49 rate I got as a walk on was a great value. Recommended if you're in the area for sure.

first time for all of us here.

Very impressive resort course, the place is impressive as soon as you hit the range.
Here are the highlights:

1. all Grass range with expansive chipping, putting, and bunker area.
2. Very green course, fairways look a mile wide, but that is just an illusion, the fairways are actually fairly tight with wide rough sides that were quite deep on the day we played
3. Bunkers had all new sand and were perhaps even a bit too fluffy
4. Greens were simply perfect...smooth, and looked like the greens you would see at many of the PGA tournament courses.
5. Hole layout was a bit boring after a while...sort of all looked same.

no wind to speak of

all in all it was WELL worth the $45 each we paid.

I would recommend this as perhaps for a 2nd course to play during a stay and play weekend up in Borrego Springs.....obviously behind you-know-who

Playing Ram's Hill golf course on Sunday with the Greenskeeper group, we got to town early and played at Borrego Springs Resort on Saturday. We couldn't have had a nicer day, low 70's, little to no wind, and amazingly only a few people playing, which amazed me! The course overall is in really good shape, as it's been only a little more than a month since they re-opened after re-seeding. An enjoyable round although challenging! You have to be accurate on several holes, as some parts of the fairways are barely 20 yds wide. Water on a few holes adds to the challenge. The sand traps are playable, as is the rough. Try to not go too far left or right or you'll find yourself in the desert and not the easiest of lies. The greens were fairly firm but your ball would hold. Very good speed, not too fast. Overall, a great value for the$$!

Played there on 5/2/15. Fore years I have heard about this course but I was never really committed to make the short trip there. I was wrong.. this is a great golf course! From the friendliness of the staff to the actual shape and condition of the playing ground. From Tee to Green it was a good experience, you get to use all clubs in the bag, even you will need to leave the driver off some tee shots. Greens were really fast yet they received the shots perfectly. Excellent value for the money...

Played 4-4-15. Enjoyed the course a lot. Has a lot of variety though most of the dog legs are to the right there were a couple dog leg lefts. Would be a walkable course but carts are included in the very affordable price of $50 weekends before 1:30 and $35 the rest of the time. We played in 3 hrs. on a Saturday afternoon. The greens did not hold well but rolled true and had good speed to them. The only negative were the bunkers. There are lots of them but the sand was pretty hard packed and lots of small pebbles. Would play here again for sure.

Greens looked fantastic, but were pretty slow at maybe a 8 and were not very receptive.
Had a few approach shots bounce on landing and or run from front to back.
Over all a fun course with a good layout. And was in very good to great condition.

1st time playing here, played the blacks (6569/71.2/123) with Kviser & Sr129 in 3.5 hours for $35 with a cart on their standard Monday twilight rate. The weather was 60 degrees, partly cloudy but with gusting, swirling winds. I am usually pretty good with my distances, but I misclubbed almost every approach shot for 18 holes. 15-20 yards short or long was my norm for this round. The wind would sometimes be the opposite on an approach shot as it was on your drive. The layout reminded me of a traditional, older desert layout that had not been significantly updated. Numerous holes had forced carries or had landing areas that were blind around palm trees from the tee. Many holes had OB down @ least one side and several lakes came into play. Some tight holes, but the course was not ridiculously tight overall. The greens looked great, putted OK, but were medium speed @ best. They really seemed slow after playing Rams Hill in the a.m. Both the fairways and rough were excellent, very lush. The rough around the greens was very consistent, not overly punitive and some of the best to chip out of that I have played in a long time. Which was a good thing, because in the swirling winds, I missed nearly every green! The tees were well maintained and very lush. The sand traps were a different story from the otherwise excellent course conditions. Not well raked or maintained, and probably because it is often windy here, most of the sand has probably blown away. They were punitive to be in and in poor condition. We had lunch @ the restaurant onsite. The food was good, but the service wasn't. We all three ordered burgers off the lunch menu that was listed @ $6.95, including fries. We were then billed $11.95? The waitress explained that she offered us the "All American Burger", which was $5 higher than the burger listed on the actual menu? There was no "All American Burger" listed on the menu, we checked afterward. Her look and actions when called on it said we just made an extra $15 off the three of you. The course layout was average, but the course conditions except for the traps was very good to excellent. I would definitely play here again if in the area. However, I could not recommend the restaurant to anyone based on our experience there.

Played here on Monday afternoon with Nickesquire and sr129. $35 to ride, including carts and range. Condition-wise, I would compare this to a really nice muni or older country club. The greens were noticeably slower than Rams Hill, but not too bad. Medium to medium fast; if I had to guess, I would say about 8 to 9 or 10 on the stimp. The only negative I saw was the bunker sand. Other than that, there was a nice mix of holes and forced carries over water or desert and lots of doglegs forcing you to shape shots or lay up well short. One long par 3 seemed like it could play like a par 4 into the wind. Good lies everywhere and greens were soft and receptive to most any type of shot. I would play here again.
