Played LC Legends on 8/31/20. Full 18 is back open again. Course is in very good condition, especially given the late summer heat we have had.

Tee boxes were just about perfect. Fairways were mostly very good, once in a while there is a bad patch, but rare. Greens are very good, firm and quick. There are a couple of greens on legends that always seem to be battling something, and I did have a couple of patches of rogue grass on a green affecting the putt. Rough is good, some thick stuff just off of fairways. As always, the practice facilities are top notch, and the staff is great.

Highly recommended.

Played 07/27 at 0812...first tee time. Interesting start to the day...the guy in the pro-shop told us we were first and could go out early (got there about 0730) since the range is closed on mondays for maintenance. Standing on the first tee waiting for the grounds crew to finish blowing the first fairway the starter rolls up around 0745 and proceeds to say "there's 30 minutes before you can tee off". After telling him what the pro shop rep said, his answer was "I don't give a d%mn what they said in there" and he drove off. We did end up getting out a little early (0805 or so), but an interesting start to the day.

Course itself is undergoing maintenance. Only the back 9 is playable right now as they replace all the bridges on the front. Not sure what the normal rack rate is there, but we paid $115 for our experience. If they didn't, they for sure should have discounted the rate. What we played of the course was a fun enough layout, but would have liked to play the front 9 too for sure.

Greens - 9/10. Greens rolled true, nice and smooth, were very receptive and you could spin the ball as well. Easily the best part of the course.

Fairways - LOVE the fairways here. Lush, full, green...everything a resort course should be and more. Would rate these a 9/10 ONLY due to a few spots that were a little dried out and could use a little extra water.

Tees - 9/10...could be because we played so early, but they were full, flat and not too many divots.

Bunkers - 3/10...for a course that paid attention to everything else, the sand was awful. Wish I would have got a picture, but it was like a thin layer of sand on top of a mud pit.

Rough - 7/10...some thin spots and some that were extremely long. Could find your ball and hit out of it so definitely playable.

Greens - looks like a battle between two strains of grass in playing out. Crew was doing some small aeration, followed immediately by rolling, so they were smooth after maintenance.
Fairways and rough - not bad. Patchy in spots but acceptable.
Tee Boxes - Horrid. More bare dirt than grass.
Sand - Looks good, but 2 of my 3 sand shots bottomed out on the hard base under 1/4" of sand.

The grounds crew was working furiously, so I suspect things will change for the better. But I'll let someone else find out.

Everything was fine; nothing was exceptional. The "Legends" course has several poorly designed holes, but the conditioning of the course is about the same as usual: greens are slightly above average, bunkers are average-to-poor, fairways are nice, there are spots (as usual) that are muddy and drain poorly, and the tee boxes are beat up. But the pace of play was fantastic. We played in under 4 hours on a Saturday morning. I guess that's the benefit of coupling an odd (bad?) course design with a high price tag.

Played Sunday twilight, July 21. Perfect San Diego afternoon. It was my first time playing here, and I think you’re paying more for the resort service and experience than the course. Found it to be pretty average, with no holes that really stuck out or wowed me. Conditions were pretty good for mid summer, though greens were rolling a little slow and were very marked up. There were some interesting ones that give you some chances to be creative. Fairways are quite nice to hit from. Rough mostly quite playable but also inconsistent and bare in spots. Saw a beverage cart guy twice, but waved him along. Pro shop marks up everything (shoes that retail for $120 being sold for $155), so be sure to buy balls before you get there. I see deals here pretty often so if you can get one of those it’s worth a look, and the resort is probably a good experience too.

Staff here was very friendly and free valet was very nice. The resort is rather large and being it was my first time here, it was a little overwhelming trying to find everything. This could be a bit skewed because there were a ton of events (excluding the one I was playing in) going on while I was there.

Greens:
The greens were decently quick and definitely receptive. I was getting large amounts of spin on wedge shots so I had to change up the swing to reduce the rollback. Overall, greens rolled fairly true with some bumps. No dead spots observed.

Fairways:
The fairways were very firm and decently maintained. No bare spots observed. Nothing tricky on these fairways and you could pretty much see everything that the hole had to offer. We played the tournament from the white tees so there a lot of tee shots were taken with less than a driver, however if playing from the proper tee boxes I think the hazards would have provided more of a challenge.

Bunkers:
Bunkers were well maintained and very course grained sand. They were uniform all throughout the course.

Tee Boxes:
Flat and lush with some bare spots. Very Level and decently maintained. Some large deep divots took over a few of the par 3s.

Rough:
About 1" long and somewhat thin. Resort course so I wasnt expecting real rough here.

Overall:
This was a nice course and I am glad I got to play it but I would not recommend it for the rack rate. There are much more interesting courses in San Diego for the same price or cheaper.

Played here 5/4 with fellow GK member Jon (jpeairs85) on a Golf Moose deal ($100 with free replay) and my GM $50 voucher. Weather was absolutely beautiful with some slight wind at times. We had a 1:12pm tee time and finished in almost exactly 4 hours, thanks in part to a dreadfully slow foursome we ran into before the turn who let us pass after hole 12, otherwise it would have easily been a 5 hour round. Conditions were rather poor considering what the rack rate is so use a deal right now.

Tee boxes: Okay to good shape. Black-blue-white for males with blue tees getting most of the play today. I do distinctly remember hole 16 having rock hard ground that nearly snapped my tee when I tried to drive it into the ground. By the time we made our way through the course, the tee boxes were a bit chewed up. Ground seemed level.

Fairways: Probably the best part of the course; green and in good shape. Turf conditions weren't great, but they were good enough to allow for adequate roll (I'm sure the rain earlier in the week helped). No real divots I saw as members/guests filled them.

Rough: Thick in many areas. This course is riddled with OB/hazard areas that are equally tough, but the thick was indeed thick. Plenty of time I had to club up and take my medicine just to try and save bogey, which I promptly didn't do.

Sand: I thought the sand was possibly the worst of all aspects. Many greenside bunkers didn't have enough sand to be able to shape shots the way you're supposed to. More than a handful of them had pebbles and small rocks that are unacceptable.

Greens: In all fairness, I knew (thank you GK) that Legends had aerated almost three weeks ago so I knew it would be sandy all day, but they were about 70-80% healed and rolled well. Pin placements could have been better given how the greens were healing, but I guess you can't have it all.

ETC: Staff was very friendly, though this is to be expected at a place like this. Love the complimentary valet and I will always take it with the regular lot being a trek in. Cart was a mixed bag as the GPS never turned on, cooler had no ice, but battery lasted the whole round, good breaks, and turn radius. Layout here is fun but routing can get a bit confusing in spots. Recommend you wait another week or so and find a good deal.

Played in the GK event on 12/8 (sorry for the delay!). Paired up for a fun round with Rob, Jack, and Anthony, great group and had a wonderful time.

Played in the GK event on 12/8 (sorry for the delay!). Paired up for a fun round with Rob, Jack, and Anthony, great group and had a wonderful time.

Course was in great shape considering the 2 days of rain it took on. Started with select cart path restrictions which were lifted about half way through the round (even though the GPS didn't update). Tee boxes were decent. Fairways were in great shape, with just a handful of soggy areas. Rough was brutal, had plenty of water and not getting cut, made it very long and penal. Bunkers seemed a little thin in the 3 or 4 I was in. Greens were mostly smooth and medium speed. The greens and surrounding area were a bit difficult for me, just not familiar with the coastal grass (was it kikuyu?) compared to high desert courses and the short game suffered.

Service was great, as expected from a high end resort. Valet parking and clubs were waiting below. Drink cart was around 4-5 times. My only complaint: After asking for a claim ticket to pick up my clubs at Valet, I was assured they would be fine and I would just need to check with the Valet, only to find all the clubs all sitting unattended in a bag rack. Just was not a comfortable feeling walking up to in a very busy valet area.

Overall, I would definitely come back. Course was in great condition and the Champions course looked interesting.
