Played 2-13-18 with JohnnyGK, Raidernationkennels, and Adigitalg87 getting around the course in a little over four hours with no waiting. Tee boxes were mostly level, in good shape and cut tight. Fairways were semi-lush with some thin areas but nice to hit from with good roll out. Rough were in descent shape not to long with some thin areas.Bunkers were nicely groomed and had medium firm sand. Greens were in good shape with some minor thin spots around the edges, they were holding well struck shots and rolling medium speed and smooth.

Played Omni La Costa Ledges Course Tuesday with 7 fellow GK Gurus. Our foursome included myself, rgm2525, raidernationkennels and adigitalg87. Super time. We were treated to some beautiful cool morning weather and golf course in great shape. We had a GK Plays outing here on 12/9 so this was my first return since. I thought Tuesday the golf course was in even better shape.

Again, still some issues on the first three greens with patch work but overall those greens are rolling better and in general I thought the entire course greens were better than in December. Fairways were lush and not dormant (with the warm winter we have had the Paspalum turf has held on to its color and lushness very well). Rough was lush and in great shape. Bunkers, with exception to greenside hole 18 which was thin, all others I experienced had quality sand and well groomed. Tee boxes (we played the blue tees) level and lush.

Although I still like the layout of their other golf course, Champions, better, I am enjoying the layout of the Legends course the more I play it. There is a lot more strategy when playing this course than meets the eye. There are approach angles essential to have to get the ball reasonable close with many different pin placements. The greens are the main line of defense out there and you need every edge you can get. I normally play a right-left ball, but on the back nine I played a left-right tee shot sacrificing some distance in an attempt to be more center fairway and avoid large trees. Overall the golf course is very well suited for a left-right player. There are some monster par 4’s out there as well. It was common for me to be hitting a long iron into a green despite a good drive. Personally I feel hole #3 and hole #10 are the most difficult.

Looking forward to my next round out there, hopefully sooner than later.

Played the legends course with the GK Gurus! 2/13/18 First time playing with Johnny and Ron! Had a great time! The course seems about the same as it did in december. We had an relaxed 4 hr round. The fairways in great shape. Sand was nice. The rough was nice it looked easy to hit out of but it really grabbed the clubs.The greens were great. The collar of the green needed work in december and it needs work now. Some more than others. It was hard to tell where the green ended and collar started.They were muddy bare, trying to chip to collar to roll on the green was tough. It would just stop or hit sand and go the other way.. Besides that the course is in great shape and if the price is right a very enjoyable course.

Played in the GK outing at the La Costa - Legends course today. We had a nice sunny morning, a very enjoyable day.

Very friendly and helpful Staff.

Excellent practice areas.

Greens: smooth, medium to fast speed and firm.

Fairways: good winter condition, some thin spots but overall very playable.

Rough: very playable.

Traps: missed them all :-) but they looked well groomed.

Good GPS system in the carts.

POP: under 4 hours.

2/13 with the gurus St eve Allen and Bob very compatible group each of us having our moments positive and not so much but moved along at a nice 340 pace(totally lost our fellow 4some). Agree with Steve layout seems really wide open but river lakes and trees as well as the bunkers are enough in play to add to the challenge.
Fairways were mostly good a little thin in places but decent lies over all--#17 had the least coverage off the tee but ok for the 3rd shot. Lot of divots many unfilled but managed to miss them. Rough not too long but thick to quickly sap distance with extra punishment if the ball sank down. Tees level with god coverage.
Bunkers that I found had ample sand and were well groomed.
Greens were overall in good shape. 1st 3 are still recovering from repair near the front portions and some perimeter areas--not much effect on play however. Medium fast with good consistency. Enough contour and slope to keep me guessing all round.
Good friendly customer service.

Played with the GK Guru's on 2/13. I will say, after playing at La Costa 10 or so times, this time was by far the best time I have had there. Course conditions were really nice.

Greens were smooth and consistently well covered. Quick, but not too fast, but deadly if you were above the hole. Fairways were green, a bit tight, but good grass coverage and soft enough to not feel like hitting on cement.

Rough is thick, but not too punishing. Sand was soft and well manicured.

Still a big fan of the Legends layout. It has some tough holes, but generally lots of room to miss. That being said, I was still able to lose a ball into water on 4 straight holes. My fun stat of the day: Front nine - hit all fairways, and only hit 1 green (and that was on a Par 5 in two). That's quality golfing there.

My biggest complaint out here has been pace of play, but today was amazingly good. Our foursome zipped around in 3:40 staying right behind the twosome ahead.

Played the 12/9/17 GK event joined by Keith (sixpez) and Gus (adigitalg87). Regardless of where and when, I always have a good time at GK events and this one was no different.

I want to start by saying I had really high expectations of this course. I don't play high-end resort courses too often and I went in expecting Aviara-like conditions... just because that is the only high-end resort course I've played.

Tee Boxes - Flat, lush, and well groomed. Some divots but very good overall.

Fairways - I was hoping to see a solid green fairway throughout the entire course but visually, it wasn't what I hoped for. However, playing conditions were very good. There were some soggy spots on the fairway but mostly fairway conditions were great and you are likely to have a great lie.

Rough - The rough was hit and miss for me. There were some areas where I had a decent lie but I wasn't able to get the club through, and some parts where the rough played almost like the fairway.

Bunkers - I was in a couple greenside bunkers and these were the best bunkers I've seen in a several months. They were filled with fluffy soft sand. It seems like golf courses don't care too much about their bunkers as most I've played in recent months had bunkers that are full of little rocks, muddy (despite course being dry), or hard packed like a cement.

Greens - Greens seemed very tricky and some downhill putts were very fast. Some greens were a little sandy and bumpy. I would just say a little above average. I probably expected a lot better and honestly, I think I've seen some LA County courses having better greens.

To summarize, I'd say, the course didn't meet my expectations and unless I got a great deal, I probably wouldn't pay rack rate to play here.

On a sidenote, I had a little confusion finding the course on my golf GPS Android app. The Legends course turned out to be "La Costa Resort & Spa - South."

Played 12/9/17 GK event. Had a great time. I really enjoyed the course layout & conditions. As others had mentioned 3 or 4 of the first greens were still recovering from something. The rest were in pretty good condition. Even though they didn't look fantastic, I thought they played well. Fairly receptive to well struck shots and had a good pace (For me) at medium fast. They seemed to hold lines well in our group. It took us the front nine to get the feel of the reads & pace down. Liked that this course does not have all the raised greens where you can't see the green surface as the Legends does. There are some funky contours on some of the greens that you really need to see if you don't play the course often.
Fairways were in very good shape. I had great lies all day. Some soggy spots here & there, but over all very nice to hit from. Wasn't playing all that great so I found a fair amount of rough, but thought it was very benign to get out of. Was able to get good contact on the ball most of the time even with some stopping power. Was in a couple bunkers. Most had good sand, but some had 3/4" rocks in them as well. Must be getting near the bottom of the sand ? Customer service was great and had a pretty good burger in the Vue lounge. All around solid course in pretty good to very good winter condition. Would enjoy playing here again.
