Played here yesterday (11/13) in an SCGA one-day event after hearing so much about this course, but never getting the chance until today. What a treat! Although the fee was more than I wanted to pay, I knew it would be a one time deal and it was well worth it. Although by no means Pebble or Augusta, the greens here easily are some of the best I have ever played. The event ran smoothly and every aspect of the course was top-notch. On to the review:

Tee boxes: Great condition. They offer so many tee options, no one patch of grass gets badly chewed up. Level ground everywhere. They even offer little boxes for broken tees.

Fairways: Excellent shape. They weren't the absolute greenest, but more importantly, they offered ample roll, great turf condition to hit off of, and not a single divot today.

Rough: Good shape. By no means was this Torrey rough, but errant shots were often penalized with sticky rough and since there weren't large areas between holes, you'd often have to contend with shots coming the opposite direction to boot.

Bunkers: Amazing. Simply amazing in terms of visual presentation (I had never seen greens so finely manicured), consistency of sand (a shade below white beach sand), and the bunkers here were at some points 10+ feet deep. This course also has the most amount of bunkers outside a course in Palm Springs; every hole had at least 4 guarding the tremendous greens.

Greens: As close to perfect as you can get. They say Phil comes here before the Masters to practice, and if this is true I can see why. Like putting on glass in terms of speed, roll path, and consistency. EVERYONE made sure to fix their divots here. Some greens were smaller, others were the size of an Olympic swimming pool, all were lightning fast.

ETC: Staff was very welcoming (even to non-members which was huge). SCGA ran this event very well and everyone played at a very good pace today and round was shade under 4.5. Carts had no GPS and markers were at time scarce. Layout is very park-like with holes created in a 10 x 10 city block space; an oasis in the middle of Chula Vista. Lunch that was provided was tasty. An overall great experience at one of the oldest clubs in CA.
