Played twilight at the Ike course yesterday, snuck all 18 in just in time. One of the few courses that I've been able to get a tee time at lately. While I think the Babe course is one of my least favorite layouts in So. California, I feel the opposite about the Ike and really love the design.
The tee boxes and bunkers were about average condition, didn't think about them one way or the other. The fairways are dormant and very thin in many spots where its close to hardpan. Rough is patchy, some spots are thick some are absolute hard pan. Highlight of the course is 100% the greens. Wish people would repair their ball marks out here, because other than that, the greens are pretty much perfect, veryyy fast downhillers, rolling smooth, receptive and able to spin back mid irons. They have very reasonable twilight times and pricing here, may need to make more drives this way in the future. Very challenging layout but also a good mix of birdie holes out there too.» Close

Played twilight at Tijeras 1/10/2021 at 1pm. First off pace of play was amazing, we finished right before 5pm under four hours which was a huge bonus. They are a little more strict here about COVID than other courses locally and all single rider carts which I enjoy. Course has overseeded as usual and course is very green and lush. The tee boxes are okay, always alot of divots out on the par three boxes and not always perfectly level. Fairways have good coverage on most holes, a few patchy areas here and there, number 4 comes to mind, but overall nice. Rough is really nice, deep long overseed, fun to play out of. The greens were as firm as Id ever seen them here and rolling very quickly, I'd guess about 11 on the stimp. I think the firmness of the greens has limited how many ball marks you usually see out here too which is nice. Definitely overall in good shape and would highly recommend right now, always nice to play in the winter when everything else locally is dormant.» Close

Got out to the Nicklaus tournament course today for the first time in probably 6-7 years. I played the stadium course last year around the tournament time and it was absolutely pristine so I was expecting that level of conditioning but was let down.
The design and layout of the course I thought was great, big drop offs on the sides of fairways, angled greens put a premium on placement off the tee. A lot of big deep bunkers out here and good mix of water holes. I’d say I like the layout here more than the stadium course.
As for conditions, the tee boxes were pristine all day pretty much perfect. The fairways look good from afar but definitely more thin spots than I’d expect this close to the tournament looks like the overseed didn’t come in perfectly, also looked like fairways could use a little mow not sure what day they do that might have just caught the wrong day. The bunker are okay not great looking visually and could use some more sand but not horrible. The greens, we were told, were brand new remodeled to original size this past year and a new grass was planted. As is with new greens they are always very firm and again a little sparse with some definite thin spots on the surfaces. Ball rolled okay but definitely not like our experience the previous year at the stadium course.
Overall we really enjoyed the course and got a deal for 65 bucks so 100% worth it. I’d be happy to come back out in a couple months and see if the grass has filled in a little bit. The course lit me up today and I’d love another crack at it, very challenging.» Close

Made the drive out from Orange County yesterday which is about 5 hours round trip. This is my fifth time at rams hill and I love the layout and isolation. Every time I have been out here the course is in near perfect condition. After reading recent reviews I had lower expectations, yet still was disappointed. I think there’s some bias of wanting to say the course is in good shape because of the love for the layout and the experience of going out there. We had a group of 12 guys and about 8 of them said they wouldn’t make the trip out again because of the conditioning price and length of trip. Tee boxes were fine, greens were maybe a 7-8/10. Fairways were flat out bad, there are tons of brown thin spots, shaggy spots, wet spot, they look OKAY from a distance but play terribly. Bunkers were good. For 140 bucks and a 5 hour drive there are tons of courses in Palm Springs in far superior shape right now to play, unfortunately to say.» Close

Got out yesterday 10/20 to play in the afternoon. Course is in beautiful shape regarding tee boxes, fairways and rough. The bunkers are okay. The greens are recovering from aeration about 2-2.5 weeks ago they still need some time, very bumpy and slow, especially in the afternoon. This course should be in great shape for November and December once the greens heal up.» Close
