Why isn't more golfers talking about this course? IDK!! Definitely a course one must play if you ever get the invite. Great clubhouse!!! Rough is ROUGH!!!!!!!!!!!! Distance killer!!! If you play it during the winter times, don't be too surprised of the snow capped mountain tops when the holes are facing north! Awesome views!!!!

Diabolical greens! Speed around the 12s!!! Can't hit the number unless you don't mind chipping back to the hole. Had a 7:30 tee time and there was maybe 3 groups out that morning? Had a chill pace round until 3 old ladies creep up behind us. They were pretty fast! We finished the round a tad over 4 hours.

Played old mac, wed 3/26,. 8:30 tee time...Another awesome trip to Bandon Dunes. Today was sunny , but super windy. I was in short sleeves and a beanie. It was a 3-4 club wind, which at times affected balance. Flighted shots were needed. And a good caddy to help you negotiate the wind. Definitely got lucky on this trip as it rained hard before arrival and will rain hard after our trip. course in great shape. Greens were great, running a solid 10ish. I love Old Mac, and find it challenging and interesting. I wish I could rank it higher on my list. The whole resort is in great shape, so my current ranking hasn't changed in terms of hole quality and fun: BD, BT, SR, OM, PD.

Played sheep , Tue 3/25,. 8:30 tee time... Another awesome trip to Bandon Dunes. Today was a little rougher. Started sunny and mild wind. Wind picked up a little bit to a 1-2 club wind at times. Then a fog rolled in from holes 12-14, where visibility was 120 yds. If you didn't have a caddy, and you don't know the course, you were screwed. It burned off by hole 15, and it stayed cool the rest of the round. Definitely got lucky on this trip as it rained hard before arrival and will rain hard after our trip. course in great shape. Greens on the slower side, running a slow 10ish. Probably the worst on the resort, but more than playable. Sheep is the least challenging, but a whole lot of fun, and the most scenic. The whole resort is in great shape, so my current ranking hasn't changed in terms of hole quality and fun: BD, BT, SR, OM, PD.

Played Pac, Mon 3/24,. 1:10 tee time,. 2nd of 36.. Another awesome trip to Bandon Dunes. Had wonderful weather the whole time. Sunny, wind picked up for this round where it was 1-2 clubs at times. Shorts would've been appropriate, but short sleeves most of the day. Definitely got lucky on this trip as it rained hard before arrival and will rain hard after. course in great shape. Greens in great shape, running a fast 10ish. Of the 5, I'm not a huge fan of this one, though it's scenic and has some nice holes, it also has holes I really don't like. You have to play it once at least and form your own opinion, it's still a great course, and i'm nitpicking. The whole resort is in great shape, so my current ranking hasn't changed in terms of hole quality and fun: BD, BT, SR, OM, PD.

Played Bandon dunes, Mon 3/24,. 8:00 tee time, 1st of 36... Another awesome trip to Bandon Dunes. Had wonderful weather the whole time. Today was sunn with a mild wind. Shorts would've been appropriate if you could change into them halfway in.. but short sleeves most of the day. Definitely got lucky on this trip as it rained hard before arrival and will rain hard after. course in really great shape. Greens have been the best I can remember. I hear they are prepping the course for the US women's amateur this summer. Greens running smooth and a fast 10ish. If you read my past reviews, you'll know i think this is a great course. The whole resort is in great shape, so my current ranking hasn't changed in terms of hole quality and fun: BD, BT, SR, OM, PD.

Early morning start under overcast conditions. Just reopened after aerification of the greens. While predictably slow, the greens rolled reasonably smooth and well. Better than expected. I suspect the healing time will be fairly short. Fairways for the most part have good coverage, tee boxes are fine, as are the bunkers. I think with some warmer temperatures, the course may be ready to return to more "country club" condition.

I ran my second Private Course GK / Vivid Golf outing at Santa Maria CC assisted by rgm2525 and paired up with GKers ag2000 and RRDenn last week. We caught a gorgeous Wednesday afternoon on the central CA coast with exceptional course conditions. The greens were smooth, medium speed and held shots. Fairways lush, green, full coverage. Rough lush, dark green, only 3 to 4 inches but the ball always sat down making it challenging. The bunkers were well maintained, white good texture quality sand and groomed. Tee boxes we’re level in excellent shape as well.

FUN FACT – Santa Maria Country Club was established in 1921 making it one of the oldest clubs in the same location in Southern California. When you play it, the old majestic trees look very cool and come into play!

It’s a pleasure working with the staff at Santa Maria CC to put on these 50 – 80 player events. Everyone who I came in contact at the club, including their members, was very friendly. I’m putting Santa Maria CC on our event calendar for Spring 2026.

We have some Santa Maria CC members play in our Ventura County events. 3 weeks ago, I asked one of them how the course looked, they said it’s in fantastic shape, they were right. Thank you everyone for coming to these events. I love seeing GKers at them and teeing it up. I’m in the process of bringing GK Plays back. I miss them too. Maybe we have one here to bring together GKers in CA.

It has been a while since the last review here. I've played probably 10 times since October, this is basically my 'home course' now because I live 5 minutes away and I am a maniac.

Weekdays are much better pace of play than weekends. They will let you walk but I don't recommend it unless you're in good shape. Conditions are seemingly improving ahead of the upcoming Epson Tour event, there is something resembling real sand in some of the bunkers now, teeboxes are probably 90% nice and even, greens are fast and hold shots if you land where you ought to, rough is still a little hit or miss. Maybe it'll never be as manicured as it once was but it's still an interesting and challenging layout (with fabulous views of suburban sprawl and Amazon warehouses). I would call their afternoon rate of $45 on the weekday 'approaching reasonable' for the golf you get. Wish the restaurant/bar was open on weekdays.

Legends course is going to be reopening as a full 18 soon (mid or late April?), from gossiping with the pro shop guys.

Got out for 9 around 2pm on a beautiful day. Conditions are improving: Greens roll well but aren't super fast or fancy, nice fluffy lies in most parts of all fairways, teeboxes bumpy but manageable. A bunch of relatively easy holes with a 217y par 3 and a 460y par 4 in the mix makes this a fun layout to walk anytime. You can't beat the price ($16), there's a range and multiple short game/putting greens, and you're surrounded by natural beauty and the 60 freeway. What's not to like?

Played this AM. Have never seen the course look this good. The clean up that most likely took place yesterday had everything spotless. Nice clean/lush tee boxes. Groomed/mowed fairways with good lies and roll out. Rough cut down and playable. Traps all raked and ready for play. Greens were in top shape for chipping, putting and holding/releasing shots. A very enjoyable round of golf topped off by excellent customer service in the shop from Madison and Christian along with Rich who handles the cart barn. Now if they can find more staff perhaps they can open the grill on Mon/Tues like they do Wed-Sun.
