A pretty big number, but it was fun. 4 holes, 13 strokes over, the other 14, 10 over.

*After reviewing the scorecard it was 16 extra strokes on 5 holes and 7 over par on the other 13 holes. 37 putts (again, UGH!), lots of two putts, only one 3 putt with two 1 putts.

Note to those playing Aviara in the future, DO NOT HIT DRIVER ON THE PAR 5 10th HOLE! . . . there is nowhere to go unless you hit a perfectly curved hook to the exact yardage.

Played Angel Park Mountain from the blue tees (6223 yards, 68.8/125).

Positives: DRIVER!!! 9/14 fairways. Only drives on #3 and #13 were off the grass and in the desert area. I felt every drive was going to be bombed down the center on every tee. Only 1 penalty, the drive on #3. Played the same ball all 18.

Cons: 20 putts on the front 9, 17 putts on the back. The putter has a new SuperStroke pistol grip which has changed the feel a little. Just need to work on it. Could not hit an iron until 8th fairway, every one before was thinned.

Highlight: a 330 yard drive on #18 ( and sunk a 12 footer for par). It was slightly aided by a 20+ mph wind blowing right down the dogleg left fairway and a firm fairway. Whatevs, 330!

Kept it under 100, so not too bad.

Steele Canyon Canyon/Ranch combo 88, adjusted to 87. 37 putts!!!!! Yes Tim I must have caught the lip out bug, I had 5 come right back at me. I couldn't hit it hard enough on most holes and had multiple second putts outside 4 feet. Hit some really good shots (birdied the uphill, 200+ yard par 3 with a perfectly feathered faded 3 wood to 8 feet pin high) but just couldn't score nor make putts.

*Never touched the flagstock the entire round.

Sherwood CC on Monday. Shot a 93 on not so ideal conditions. The was an appreciation day for being a volunteer for the Champions Tour event at Sherwood. The day was a make up day from the scheduled early March date which got rained out. The greens AND fairways had been punched and sanded two weeks ago, but seemed like it hadn't been that long. Sherwood is just a downright beautiful course and I'm not complaining about the conditions, it is what it is. All it cost was a tip for the caddie. Hope I get to do it again next year.

Played Marriott Desert Spring on 4/27.

Played the Palm Course first - Front nine was a trip on the bogey train with 3 missed ops for birdie and lots of putts. Shot 46 on the front. Back 9 was more consistent and made less putts for a 41. Still missed 2 birdie ops. Driver, irons, and wedges were all good. Putting was suspect due to slow greens and inconsistent rolls.

Played the Valley course second and after a few missed drives and a ton of waiting we stopped after 9 holes and 3 hours. The wind had picked up and the temp was nearing 100°. I did however Hole out from 20 yards for birdie on the last hole so It made my day.

Woeful 2019 continued on Saturday in the desert, but there was a light at the end of the tunnel on Sunday at Los Verdes. Having only broken 90 once since the start of the year, I was in a good position to make it twice after a pedestrian 46 on the front nine that included two triples but a birdie on 3 to keep me close. Opened the back with a double, but then got on a nice streak with some pars and all the rest bogeys on the tough, quirky back nine holes at LV. Got up to 18 and pumped my best drive of the day dead center of the fairway, but then utterly botched the approach, bunkered, and doubled to shoot 90. What makes that even worse is the 3 foot birdie putt I missed on 11 that would have helped. Frustrating.
