If you can handle the heat, July should be great month for golf. With the wet spring we had golf courses should still be in great shape before we start seeing dry conditions in August/September so get out and play.

I won't be teeing it up until our outing at Omni La Costa on 7/13, likely our last GK Plays of the year until possibly a year end outing at Rams Hill Golf Club. I'll get in some golf that Saturday and likely the coming Monday and then put the sticks down again until the end of the month. But I do intend to practice.

Looking forward to everyone's posts as always.

Luckily June and now July have been kind to my game again and I seem to have gotten back on track in terms of scores. A few medical issues notwithstanding, it's been a tough transition to the new grip but it's now paying dividends with better ball flight, more consistent ball striking, and perhaps most importantly, the misses aren't as dramatic and penal as years before. Still a lot of work to do but finally more scores back in the 80s than triple digits.

Highlights included an 81 at La Mirada, an 86 at San Clemente, an 89 at Brookside #1 from the blues (long!) and an 87 at Lakewood. No lies - there were some stinkers in between at the really tough courses like Arroyo Trabuco and Woodland Hills CC (and an even worse stinker at Westchester of all places!), but overall the game is feeling better and the handicap is finally moving back down in the right direction again.

July 11, Balboa park, 86. Started off poorly with a 46, came back with a 40. Good all around day with the typical few slight mistakes that Balboa will jump on and make you pay dearly, she can be a mean mistress but I still love her. Actually saw a few glimpses of the old me in the short game, but still a ways away.

Chris and I are visiting friends in Washington and they took us to the local golf course today. Just a par35 9 hole course but there are separate tees for the front 9 and back 9. Some change the hole quite a bit. There was a tournament this afternoon so we only played 9. First time walking a course in a while. My knee held up well though it did get tired toward the end. Played a mish mash rental set that had 7 different brand club of varying age. First time hitting driver since the surgery and hit it well. Could not hit the mid irons straight though the distance was OK. Bogies on every hole so at least consistent. Course is called Ellensburg Golf Club. Interesting layout with awesome views and a beautiful river running along side many holes. Conditions were OK but nothing to rave about. Greens were slow but smooth but the bunkers were muddy and hard. Had a couple good shots out of theme by playing 1 as a chip shot and used Chris' technique of putting out of one. I would rate the course a solid 4 to 4.5. I would be interested in playing again with my own clubs and playing all 18 but wouldn't go out of my way to play here. Strangest part was the tee arrangement. This was the first time I saw a course where the red tees were behind the blues. Very confusing but what the heck! When in Washington do as they do!
