So a few months ago I stumbled upon the club corp play away membership. Basically it allows you to play almost any club Corp course that is over 100 miles from your house or work for $60 a month. All you have to pay is the cart fee and you can bring up to 7 guests for the guest rate (varies between clubs).

Now I was a bit hesitant at first until I realized I can play all of the Mission Hills GC courses and the two private courses at Indian wells. You can only play each club twice a month and on weekends you cant tee off until noon. During the week its any time. Not too bad as the drive is going to be at least an hour and a half anyways.

I just signed up last week and have already booked a couple of rounds at Indian Wells this weekend as well as some courses in Las Vegas. Booking was super easy and I think this is a great deal if you don't mind driving to play golf. I also found out you can go to a handful of city/social clubs and enjoy a complimentary 4 course meal too.

Is anyone else a play away member? Also if you want to play any of those course let me know and we can arrange something. To find a list of courses with benefits you can go to the club corp play away membership page and there is a downloadable PDF.

PS- PGA National is on there so I cant wait to plan a trip to play the bear trap this spring!

I’m going to look into it tonight. It sounds like a great deal. Update: I signed up. Thanks for sharing Matt. I'm already planning some desert golf and will be booking Indian Wells Country Club asap.

how is it determined whether the club is within 100 miles? curious because mission hills GC is 98 miles away from my house by google and wondering whether it would count or not.

edit: i just noticed it's two complimentary greens fees per month AND per club. that's a pretty decent deal.

What kind of "cart fees" have you found so far? Normal $20-30 range or inflated?

Edit: Two more questions...
How quickly did your membership start after applying? (I'm headed to Arizona this week.)

By joining, are you committing to any certain time period, or can you cancel anytime? Edit again, I found the FAQ:
AM I ABLE TO CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP?
There is no loyalty agreement, but Members who cancel within 12 months will be subject to a $250 cancellation fee.

The PDF also says you can get a free Sunday Gospel Brunch at House of Blues locations. I went to the one in Vegas once and it's delicious. You might wanna check that out on your Vegas trip.

No, anyone. But you can't use any benefits within 100 miles of home, it seems.

I signed up last night and it says it's a 12 month agreement or a $250 cancellation fee. The website says membership is active in 3 to 5 business days

Mark,

I signed up on 10/31 and they said it take 48 hours to get you in the system.

The cart fees I have inquired about have ranged from 29-38. I just used my first round yesterday at Indian wells CC and everything went smooth. I think it’s a great deal if you don’t mind driving or if you travel for work. I’ve already booked 4 rounds this month and am calculating my savings every round. For Indian Wells the guest fee is $145 so I only paid $36 for the cart fee which saves me $109 right there. At bears best in Las Vegas the cart fee is $38 but the guest fee is $200 so a huge savings there

Concept sounds interesting.

In looking over their site, it appears that you are grouped by geographic area based on where your live, and that exactly 100 miles is not an iron clad rule. It listed courses I would be eligible for that are not quite 100 miles from my house based on Mapqwest.

So, if I understand correctly:

1-You pay a monthly fee to be a Club Corp Play Away member.
2-Very limited availability of courses, but you get two comp green fees per available course per month.
3-Most available courses are private, some listed are semi private or public.
4-You are allowed to request tee times 21 days in advance on a space limited basis on the available courses.
5-If confirmed, you then pay a roughly $30-$40 cart fee to actually play on the date of play.

I also read that some courses within your geographic area may still allow you to play?

Comped rental clubs could be a very nice ancillary benefit for people not planning on playing on an out of town trip but suddenly have a free time lot.

The goal is long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, could I at least hit them straighter?
