Palm Springs golf is a real bargain in August and September if you are willing to put up with the heat. Many courses are still in about 85-90% of peak playing condition @ 1/3 to 1/5 peak season prices.
However, October is a different story. Many courses are already closed for over seeding. The ones that are still open are getting closer and closer to closing for 4-6 weeks, which usually equals a cut back on maintenance and course conditions as they dry out the course to prepare for over seeding.
The other challenge is the prices. While there is no magic change in the weather or the playing conditions from September 30th to October 1st, there may be a GREAT change in what the round costs. Many courses raise their rates on 10/1. Could be just their fall pricing kicking in. Could be that the snowbirds start trickling in and are willing to pay whatever. Could be that they correctly realize that with half the courses closed, supply and demand kicks in.
Net result is that a nice course I played for $50 last week is $85 this week for the same time slot. And I can guarantee you that it is in no better, probably worse playing condition since they are getting ready to close for over seeding shortly.
If they are going to charge peak prices for non peak conditions, wait a month until the course you want to play reopens after fall over seeding would be my advice. The goal is long and straight! But since I can no longer hit them long, could I at least hit them straighter? |

| Thursday October 3, 2019 8:19 AM October really is an odd month in that area. November kicks off their "prime season" with justifiable higher rates yet they start charging in October. I think you summed it up correctly in that it's a combination of Supply and demand, and snow birds coming in. I'll be there for a week in November. So many great courses to play! |

| Thursday October 3, 2019 8:56 AM It's a good time to catch up with friends and family- the restaurants are good.
It's also a good time to check out newer equipment and be ready for the new season.
Lessons are best taken during the down time as well- you might just find an opening from that pro...
But you are right, it's probably the saddest time of year out there for golf rounds.JVGA |

October is a sad golf month. It's a cruel joke. Just as the weather backs off the courses are let go for reseed prep and prices sky rocket, and pace of play is a thing of the past. |
