10/24/11-Play this course every year. Can't master Hole #1. It has such a beautiful vista. The tee boxes are awesome, the antique pieces (buildings, artifacts, scenes built with real machinery) are fascinating, and the course design is challenging. I wouldn't go to Laughlin without my clubs to play this gorgeous track. It is indescribably delicious! Almost worth the fee just to roam about in the golf car. Okay, about the golf. If you hit an errant shot, you're probably on the side of a hill in a bush or grass. Hit it to the wrong lay-up spot, and you're faced with a surprising angle to the green. Some of the greens are so well protected with bunkers, that you might wonder whether you can get there from here. Greens were firm, so a low shot rolled way past the hole and the green. But, oh, so enjoyable to chip it close enough for a par! The fauna is as attractive as the flora. Bring a camera. I didn't; I will next time I'm there. Lovely. The Pro Shop staff goes out of their way to start you off with a great attitude. The Cart guys are enjoyable, fun, and very helpful. Cart Lady - very friendly. Great day; great play!

3Oct11 - Be prepared for surprises when you are "close" to the green. The grass is the type that makes you wonder if you're hitting a velcro ball into the loops. Then, when you miss the chip, it chunks. Not a complaint - a compliment about how challenging the course can be if you don't make the right club choices. The greens sometimes offer an optical illusion. Better look both directions to determine a break. Ever see a ball roll fast "uphill?" I did. The trees on both sides of the fairway offer a great target down the middle, unless a hill affects the roll of the ball. Stay out of the tree line, or you're destined for decisive play: "Hit it to the fairway, or try to make it through an opening." The growth in the rough will deceive you. Overall, this course is a total treat to visit and play. The staff is top-notch, the amenities are great, the layout seems less challenging than it really is. Great value.

8/29/11-We love this course, and play it often. My rating will seem confusing when comparing some of the categories. For example, the bunkers are usually really great. This Monday, some of them had standing water, or the sand was so wet, it was not fair. This was caused by overwatering this morning after a really dry weekend when the irrigation system was shut down because rains were expected, and did not occur. The fairways are better than I've ever seen them. The rough???? Whew! This is professional grade. Best to play in the fairway. The rough is tough. And, that's good. Makes the course more challenging (even though some of my playing partners didn't like it -- hee-hee!) The pro shop, the staff, the snack bar -- can't expect more. And what a great greens fee level. I commend the corporation for continuing its low-pricing to get more play. Regulars, here - watch my lips: Repair your divots and ball marks. Come on! They provide plenty of mix. Keep this course in good condition. You know you're going to come back. When you return, and play, do you want to land in one of your old divots and have bad words for the guy who caused it?

7/22/11-Whatever they're doing... it's marvelous. The course is the most lush I've ever seen it. Yes, the sprinklers did get us a bit damp now and then. Perhaps that's the reason for the gorgeous fairways. And the rough? That's the way it should be - a bit of a hazard. Hit your ball there, and you'd better select the correct club to get the ball out. The greens are absolutely among the best in the area. Sand traps... a bit of a problem in a couple of holes. Standing water. Probably caused by the watering of the course to keep it green this time of the year. Let's face it... you're not supposed to hit the bunkers. The pro shop staff is so courteous -- as always. The starter is friendly and helpful to those unfamiliar with the course. And the snack bar lady - just great! What more do you want? I almost don't want to post comments, or rate the course, because I want to reserve it for myself. But, I must let everyone know, out of kindness, this is one of the best values in the area -- if not the very best!

6/27/11 - Two weeks since we played. Even better this time. What a gem this course. The Service personnel are wonderful. The fairways are growing nicely. The rough is as it should be. The greens are challenging. No complaints whatsoever.

Played 6/13 - Intro'd a new player to this course, and he loved it. He can't wait to play it again with us. Though my ratings are low because of divots in the fairways, and ball marks on the greens, I do not fault the management for this. The players have an ethical responsibility to repair divots -- the course affords refilled bottles at the turn -- and to repair ball marks. Yucaipa has beautiful greens -- no two are the same, and the pin placement is always a unique and wonderful challenge. C'mon, players, take the time to repair your marks and divots. Perhaps the Men's Club should pay attention to this. Course managers would certainly reward them for keeping it in good shape. Now -- the fairways at Yucaipa have a tendency to have bare spots here and there. Today -- not so bare. However, the grass seems lumpy at different places. I'm certain this is because of the type of grass that clumps. Again, not the fault of the maintenance crew. The customer service in all areas is beyond approach. The specials and newspaper ads offer a great discount, too. (I shouldn't review and rate this course so high. It will get crowded, and I won't be able to finish a round in less than 1 hour in the future.) Try this course just once. You're sure to come back.

Played 6 Jun - Can't blame the course for the wind, which was very strong. Quite a challenge, and was an experience builder. This course is on the Canadian Tour, and it is exquisite. I rated the course, but some of the rating choices are not specific enough for me to explain. Customer Service - The pro shop does its best to satisfy everyone's needs. Here's the problem: I have not seen the clubhouse open for meals, snacks, etc. Purchase beverages from a vending machine. Definitely not a negative point for the customer service by employees. Jose was very accommodating. Sand in Bunkers - Some had puddles of water, but I'm sure they needed to water profusely because of the recent winds in this area. Oh, and the wildlife - bring a camera. You'll see birds, mammals, and in one lake... unbelievable large catfish. It is transfixing. The course layout will astound players because of the very reasonable fee. Currently, it's $39. That's incredible for this area. If you drive a long distance to get there, be prepared to play in the wind -- but, enjoy yourself. It's good experience in "how to play the wind."

Played 4/19/11. We hadn't played here in months. It seems the course always has problems with bare spots on some fairways. #8 and #13 were cart path only. Something must be done about the Coots, the filthy birds. They crowd the greens on some holes. They're destroying the desire to play the course. The greens were in very good shape, actually, but some were so covered with coot droppings, you couldn't clean the line of putt. It's just too bad that some players do not repair ball marks and fill divots. The bunkers are like extremely shallow sand boxes with no sand, just mud. Some have dirty water puddles. We love the course, but it has perennial drainage problems. Please, maintenance folks, improve it. The track is a great layout. The pro shop and cart barn are always so helpful and friendly. And the coffee shop -- wow! It's one of the best in the entire golfing area we play. Keep up the good work! I must add a comment about the fauna in the area. There are mallard ducks, quail, squirrels, rabbits, and an occasional heron. You see those at many local courses. Today, we saw a beautiful coyote traipsing down a bunny trail. What a beautiful sight.

The amenities are great. You are treated like an upper class citizen when you arrive. And the cost at this time of year (June) is very attractive. Stay out of the hundreds of sand traps. The sand is marvelous for someone with a little bucket and small shovel, but for a sand wedge, you'd better be right. The challenge is great. No wonder this is a Bob Hope Classic track during February. La Quinta should be proud of this accomplishment. Only problem I experienced was the level of food in the clubhouse restaurant. The cole slaw was absolutely tasteless. But, you know what? Sitting in the original adobe building outshadowed any minuses. Enjoy!

I play this every chance I get - it's just around the corner for me. The Indian nation that owns this course take pride in its appearance, condition, and treatment of guests. The clubhouse meals are over the top. When the wind is blowing in the Coachella Valley, go here. It's almost windless.

4/26/10-This is one of my favorites for the money. Sure, if you're from another area and paying $50-60 per round, you're used to different conditions. But the layout will get you. It's not a resort course, by any means. Not easy, very challenging. I've played this course many times. Currently, the condition is very good. It has some rough spots in some fairways, but overall it is acceptable and very enjoyable. The clubhouse staff is always friendly and very helpful. They'll put you at ease quickly and send you forth for a fun round. Enjoy it; don't grouse.

Played 5/3/2010. This is an "old" course, but you'd never guess it when you get out there and face its fantastic layout. It's not as easy as it looks. Bunkers, lakes, rough that demand attention to your positioning. I hit a fade from the tee, and was able to aim correctly. One of our foursome is a good golfer -- slams it off the tee and drives his irons to the green in regulation at times. Hah! He found a 10 on a par 4. That's what this course can do to you if you don't watch out. The greens are a little bumpy, so you have to look at your line carefully. Some of our foursome 4-putted, but 1-putted on others. The fees are low -- discounted for military, too. The course staff are so pleasant, you almost feel like you've stepped into a bungalow outside your home. Love this course in a gorgeous setting. Oh -- and the booms you hear in the distance at times? March ARB firing range. They're aiming away from the course. No problem, unless you're PTSD.
