Course is in good shape, although the winter is upon us. The grass appears to have stopped growing very much and as such, the fairways are hard and fast and provide lots of roll. The rough is also pretty thin. The greens are hard, but you don't really get the bounce you'd expect from them being so hard. They were actually slower than they appear, causing most of my group to leave putts short. When attempting to fix a ball mark, the top 1/4 to 1/2 inch is soft, and the repair tool stopped going down at that point. It made it a little difficult to correctly repair the ballmarks. With the cool/cold temperatures, the one benefit is the pace of play. I walked on and tee'd off within 10 mins. Round took about 4 hours in prime time on a Sunday (930am-130pm). All in all a good experience.

Played the Tamaya and Cheena nines on a Sunday starting at about 1100. The fairways are in great shape, greens are very good and the rough is long and lush. The pin placements appear to be set for the winter (three or four pre-cut holes on each green) and some of them are tough. Pace of play was a little slow, took 4 1/2 hours for 18. Did not visit the restaurant on this trip, but did look around the pro shop a little before the round. They are selling their demo clubs at discounted prices and having some specials on logo shirts from Ashworth.

Played mid-afternoon on Sunday. Walked right on, only had one group tee off before I was able to. Golf course is in decent shape, although there was some standing water in low lying areas off the fairways. The tee boxes and greens both showed wear and tear, with the greens being in worse shape than I've seen in a while. The problem seems to be that they are too wet and even with soft spikes, there were a lot of marks from peoples shoes, especially around the cup. Pace of play was pretty decent, finished in a little over 4 hours with groups stacking up a little on the last 4-5 holes. There was no one behind me until the 16th hole when I saw them back finishing 14. They didn't really catch up to me, but I think that was only because they were playing a little slow.

Course looks to be in good shape, but as you start to play, there are many areas that are wet. It seems like they may have had a water issue or are intentionally overwatering, but standing water in tread marks on fairways and numerous squishy areas while walking detracted from the experience. The grass is growing well with all the water, but also as a result, the greens were a little furry and slow. The course still plays pretty well and it didn't ruin the experience, just tempered it.

Played 9/14/10. Course is in great shape. Fairways are in great shape. They have a few areas designated as ground under repair, which is a first for me on the city courses. It shows that the course is really placing emphasis on getting into better shape. The greens rolled smooth and fairly fast (again for a city course). Since it gets a lot of use, there were some unrepaired divots on some of the tee boxes and a couple of ball marks on the greens. Overall a very satisfying round for only $17.50 twilight.

Played again 9/1/10 and the greens have improved since the last time I played. They have cleared up many of the bare spots and either it isn't getting a lot of play or the players are being responsible because I saw only a few un-repaired ball marks. The fairways are in pretty good shape also. Definitely worth the twilight fee of $11 to walk. Finished in just over three hours.

Played 8/29/10. Course is in excellent shape with the exception of the greens which were aerated last week. The greens are recovering nicely, but there is still a lot of sand and they are quite bumpy and rather slow. Fairways are in excellent shape, lush and most of the divots have been repaired with sand/seed mixture. Tee boxes are also in excellent shape. The divots on the par 3s have mostly been filled with sand/seed mixture. Customer service is excellent, the practice range, putting greens, and chipping area are all in very good shape. The putting green was punched at the same time as the course greens, so you have a chance to see how the greens roll before heading out. The course has an extensive golf shop with apparel, balls, and some clubs available. I did not visit the snack bar during this visit. Green fees with cart were only $39 after 2pm (everyday) and it was well worth the green fee.

Played the Arroyo and Mesa nines. Tee boxes and fairways are in good shape with a normal amount of repaired and unrepaired divots. Some of the greens had large bare areas (sand exposed) and quite a few ball marks, but in all they were in pretty good shape. Customer service was excellent, they provide a yardage booklet, tees, ball marker, and divot tool to everyone that plays. Pace of play was decent. Finished 18 in about 4 hours. Price is very reasonable for twilight (after 3pm) at $34 to ride.

Quiet Military course on Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, NM. While it won't be mistaken for a premiere course, course is in decent shape. The fairways are a mix of grass and weeds but they do a good job of keeping them cut. Greens are mostly in good shape with only a few bad spots around the edges on a couple of greens. The course maintenance does a good job for a limited budget facility. Two things make this course more playable than the conditions, the price ($11 to walk twilight weekdays to $22 to walk on a weekend), and the relatively low utilization. Since it is a military course, the availability is limited to military, government employees and government contractors (like me).

One of the four Albuquerque city run courses. Overall the course is in good shape; however, there are a couple of things that could be improved. July has seen a few afternoons with thunderstorms and it appears that the course is holding on to some of that water. Several tee boxes were a little torn up by golf shoes and/or divots. The fairways are all green and in good shape. The greens had a few un-repaired ball marks and some brown spots that might be some type of fungus. Unfortunately, another problem is the golfers playing the course not taking care of their own damage (divots, ball marks, etc). Weekend rate of $41 to ride / $29 to walk is reasonable for the area.
