Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Played yesterday, Sunday, Dec 17. Tee time 6:50am, walking, $50. Great POP at 4hours. Course is in playable shape, but definitely has some flaws. Teeboxes were just ok, they're doing quite a bit of work on them, some were newly sodded and were great, others were chewed up and not very level. Mixed bag, but not impossible to find a decent spot to tee it up.
Fairways were also a mixed bag. Some were awesome while others were awful. We were taking some relief in the fairway as there was a lot of bare spots on several holes, calling it "ground under repair" because some of the areas in the fairways were just dirt.
I found one bunker and it was nice. They're doing quite a bit of work on the bunkers and it shows. Nice sand and proper cushion.
Greens didn't look all that good, mixed grasses and a lot of ball marks. But they held shots well and downhillers were super quick. A few greens were bumpy, but overall no huge complaints. They were totally acceptable.
Customer service was good all around. No beverage cart, but you go by the snack shack a couple of times. Enjoyed the day and will continue to play Bonita about once a year. It's a fun layout, just wish it was in a little better shape.

Showed up yesterday/Sunday, Nov 12 around 10am and put my name on the list. Sat in the bar and ordered a breakfast burrito and one of the guys in the proshop came to the bar to let me know I would be third up!! So stoked, didn't wait hardly at all!! $53 to walk on an absolute beautiful Sunday, not a cloud in the sky and hardly a breath of wind! Got paired with three other singles who did the same thing I did, just showed up and I guess there was a cancellation of an entire foursome.
Course is in good shape all around. And POP was phenomenal at 4hrs on the dot. We had very little waiting all day and the guys I played with were all fast players, three of us walked and one had a cart as he is fighting a knee issue.
Played the blue tees and they were all just fine. No problems at all. Fairly level and all had good coverage.
Fairways were good to very good!! Had great lies all day. I only missed one fairway on number 8 and found the first bunker on the right, up against the upslope so had to just hit a 9iron out of it. Bunkers were in good shape, I found a couple other greenside bunkers and they were just fine, a little wet and heavy sand, but no problems.
Rough didn't seem too penal and had good coverage.
Greens were good to very good. They held shots very well and were crazy fast!!! I don't recall these greens ever being this fast, please be aware and keep the ball under the hole. They had a couple little bumps occasionally and you had to play defense on these greens, that's for sure. Very challenging and they didn't have a lot of ball marks, people seemed to be doing a good job of taking care of their ball marks yesterday.
Customer service was great. Proshop guys were great and they had no problem coming into the bar to let me know when my name was called, there's no speaker in the bar area, so that was crucial. Beverage cart came around a few times, but I BYOB, so didn't use her services but she seemed nice and did a good job. Bar is no frills, but the bartender was super friendly. Highly recommend, it's a good workout to walk as it has quite a few hills. It's for sure the best value in OC, as well.

Played yesterday, Sunday Oct 29, teetime 1:07pm. Found hot deal on golfnow for $44 plus $3 service fee, not a bad deal for Sunday in San Diego.
Check in was easy. Still have to wait for carts for a little bit to get cleaned up from the morning crew, but teed off right on time, so not a big deal. Carts are very basic. POP was nice, a little over 4hrs, no issues. Front desk and beverage cart crew were all awesome. Bartender was very nice, she was a little overwhelmed by the kitchen crew not showing up, so no kitchen available besides hot dogs and premade sandwiches. Not a big deal, I wasn't hungry.
Teeboxes were all nice, played the black tees and didn't have any issues.
Fairways were good to very good. No problems all day for me.
I didn't hit into any bunkers, but they looked ok and my playing partners didn't complain or have any problems that I noticed.
Not much rough to speak of, it was high in some sporadic spots, but for the most part it wasn't too penal. I only missed two fairways, and didn't have any issues.
Greens were the lowlight. They held shots just fine, but had some bare spots and were pretty bumpy. They had some good speed to them and were mown at a good length. But were just a little frustrating with the bare spots and bumpiness. I don't think they aerated in the Fall, so maybe they should have? I don't know, I'm no expert in turf maintenance by any means.
I really enjoy the layout, especially the back nine. Awesome trees all over the place and great doglegs and some forced carries on the back. I always have a good time out here and don't expect to be "wowed" by any facet of the course. Good price point and occasionally you can find it in outstanding shape.

Played 9/11 in an annual shotgun tourney. Course is in excellent all around condition right now. Only minor bummer was they sanded the greens recently. Didn't really affect uphill puts, but side hill and down hill tended to be a little bumpy and caused a knucle ball effect on those putts. The greens did hold shots very well. POP was not bad at 4:30 for a scramble. White teeboxes were nearly perfect all around. Fairways were also nearly perfect, bermuda grass, lush with good cushion and perfect roll out. Rough wasn't too penal, but it was in good shape. Didn't play out of the bunkers, but they looked just fine. Customer service was perfect, they know what they're doing with a tournament. Wish I played enough to become a member, it would be good choice to join. Highly recommend if you ever get an invite.
Played yesterday, Friday, Aug 25. Showed up as a single without a tee time and got right out. Vineyard/Ranch is how they sent me out by myself. I blazed through the Vineyard in an hour, replaying 6-8. Ranch was about 1.5 hrs and then played Ranch again in about 1 hr. $85
for twilight county resident is worth it if you can play 30 holes like I did, lol. But the Vineyard is just a lackluster nine holes in my opinion. Holes 1 and 5 on the Vineyard are good holes but the other 7 holes just are mediocre. And the greens on the Vineyard are crazy flat.
Conditions are good for the most part, but $85 rate is pushing it, especially if you play the Vineyard in the rotation. Black tees were level, but pretty shaggy and chewed up. Fairways were good to very good, no issues at all there. Fairways were definitely the highlight of the courses. Greens had a lot of ball marks and were just OK. They held shots well, but were a little bumpy and average speed. Sand traps looked worse than they played, they were damp and clumpy on the surface but underneath, they were just fine and played well actually. Rough wasn't too penal.
I do love this course, but not at the premium price, especially if you have to play the Vineyard nine. Customer service was good, beverage cart around several times and guys in the proshop were fine. Paul was out at the Vineyard/Ranch first tee when I made the turn and was very friendly. I do recommend, the Canyon/Ranch nines are awesome.

Played yesterday/Friday at 2pm, $42 with cart, POP 4hrs15mins.
This course is really growing on me. Every time I play it, I appreciate the layout more and more. It's relatively flat all over, but mature trees, some ravines and great doglegs make it very fun. Some of the holes (especially on the back nine) are just beautiful. Condition has been the only issue in the past, but yesterday everything was in good to really good condition. Staff in the pro shop and bar are great. Starter at first tee very friendly. Beverage cart was around twice, but we already loaded up at the beginning and the turn, but she seemed very nice.
Teeboxes were just fine on the verge of very good. Nice and level without much divot damage.
Fairways were good to very good! I didn't have any bad lies. They had nice cushion and good amount of rollout.
Rough is minimal height, no problems to hit from, but you'll be in the trees if you miss the fairway, so that's your major punishment.
Greens were great. A little slow, especially up hill, but they were smooth and held shots very well. No issues whatsoever.
I found one bunker and it was a little hard under the first inch of good sand. My only complaint and criticism of the course.
I highly recommend right now. It's an old course and rough around the edges (cart paths are a little rough and some outlining areas aren't kept up very well, but they don't come into play at all, just not the best "eye candy"). The clubhouse is no frills and the driving range isn't anything spectacular, but I thoroughly enjoy this course, especially for the price range.

Played yesterday, Sunday, July 16. Beautiful day, 80degrees and about one club ocean breeze. Tee time 1:10pm with my brother and our wives. Proshop guys were awesome especially the PA announcer, really made the start of the day enjoyable!! Thanks guys, didn't get any names, but they were awesome.
Course is in good to very good shape right now. Blue Tee boxes were ok to good, they need some leveling. The wives played the reds and those tees looked perfect!
Fairways were very nice, never had a bad lie all day and my brother and I each hit 11 fairways, so that was nice.
Rough was long enough to grab your club, for sure, but short enough to find your ball and get it advanced, just grip a little tighter and aim a little to the right to compensate.
Sand traps were ok for the most part, but many of them had lots of squirrel tracks, my ball sat down in one of those tracks on the greenside bunker on 17 and it made for a difficult shot, but managed to get it out onto the green.
Greens were very good. Very few ball marks and they held shots very well. Smooth for the most part, but got a little bumpy towards the end of the day. They rolled at a great pace and were consistent.
POP was 4.25hrs, can't complain. Little waiting on the last few holes, but nothing alarming. $62 with a cart is a little steep, but it's the new sign of the times. Get on out there, it's playing very well right now.

Played in a shotgun scramble tourney yesterday, Sunday, 6/11. Teed off at 1pm. Periods of rain made for a challenging day. Course is overall in pretty good condition.
Greens were definitely the highlight. They held shots fantastically. Putted smooth and they were quite fast.
Teeboxes were a little shaggy, but no big issues. Some divot damage on the par3's but all of them were nice and level.
Rough was thick and juicy. Lots of clover. Avoid it if you can!
We were in one fairway bunker and it was nice, no issues.
Fairways, quite a few of them had wet and bare dirt areas for some reason. Especially in the landing areas from the white tees. Casual water for the most part in these dirt areas with that rain, so we took a drop on two occasions.
Service was great all around. Beverage cart made a few rounds and they handled the tournament with ease.
Fun course, great layout and easy recommend, just wish they'd fix a few of the fairways.

Repeat conditions from Sun Mountain the day before. $10 cheaper than Sunday? on a Memorial Day? No complaints there!!!
Played Monday 5/29. $80 local rate at 12 noon. Worth every penny! Love this course and all of the courses and facilities here. Must play at least one of these three courses if you're in the Vegas area.
Teeboxes were great. Level, plenty of coverage and mowed to perfect height.
Fairways were great. Good cushion, good amount of roll. Never had a bad lie.
Rough was thick and juicy. About 3-5 inches long, but really made you think about executing a good shot. I shouldn't have gone for the green on 18 from the right rough, quickly grabbed my club and I yanked it into the water. I should've definitely laid up to give myself a chance at saving par or worse a bogey. So think about it before trying to muscle one out of this thick stuff.
Traps were fine for the most part, but were a little on the thin side. If you executed a good bunker shot, they seemed to behave ok. But if you hit a little heavy, the hard sand underneath would cause you to skull it from the bounce off the hardpan about an inch deep.
Greens were great. They were cut short and were fast, but they held shots amazingly well. They putted very smooth and they are a blast with ample slopes. They are large and multi-tiered, just great fun to putt.
Wind was howling, 20-30 mph with 40+mph gusts. I think this is normal for afternoons out there. Customer service was perfect. Beverage cart came by a few times and they don't rip you off for beers, 6pack was $25.

Played Saturday 5/27, 12pm teetime. Good local discounted rate of $60. Good value in my opinion. First time at this course and it's a great layout, Jack Nicklaus design. Wind was up, 20-30mph. The course is in the middle of nowhere!! No homes (at least not yet). Conditions were good for the most part. Customer service was great. POP 4.25hrs, which was just fine. Course plays very difficult especially with the amount of wind we had.
Teeboxes were great. Level with plenty of coverage.
Fairways were very nice, as well. Never had a bad lie all day.
Rough was up quite a bit, 3-5 inches. Definitely a challenge hitting from the rough. It would grab your club, very sticky. Some bare and thin patches mixed in, as well, so not quite a visually appealing, but it did hold your ball from going into the desert if you were slightly off line from the fairway.
Found one bunker and it was nice. Perfect amount of fluffy sand under the ball.
Greens were recently punched and they were very bumpy, about the only low light of the course. I'd love to return when the greens are in better shape, they are undulating and large. The did hold shots very well.
Definitely recommend this course. Lots of dog legs and split fairways, I used every club in the bag and thought very hard on every shot and putt.

Played Friday, 5/26, tee off at 12:50. The wind was howling 20-30mph (I think this is generally the case every day out there). $155 rate and worth it. I'm sure the course is generally in better shape than it is in late May, but everything was very acceptable condition wise.
Teeboxes were good for the most part. A couple of par 3's were chewed up, but they were all level and had good enough coverage to find a spot to put your tee in the ground.
Fairways were very nice. Good roll with good cushion. Never had a bad lie all day.
Rough was a few inches long, but manageable for the most part. Might not be able to go for many heroic shots, but putting a club on the ball wasn't a problem.
Sand traps were just fine. Crusty on top, but good enough sand underneath for the most part.
Greens were good, not great, but good. They were dry and fast but surpisingly held well struck shots.
Service was just fine all around. POP was just under 5hrs, very difficult course with this wind, so lots of prep time and thought to hit your shot. And the course as usual is busy.
Highly recommend. Wouldn't want to play here everyday, but definitely have to play it when you're in the Vegas area. Playing once a year seems like a great choice.
