Played Thursday 2/10 /11 -
It was a GREAT day, with lots of outstanding veiws.
Club house was WOW - its huge.
Great service.

Practive facility was good - range seems a littel far away if you are walking.
Carts used to have GPS but now they do not - looks like they just plain got rid of them.

Course was in GOOD shape, except for the greens. They punched 1/2 of the each green. They have some big greens. And it was nice and sandy. The unpunched side of the green rolled very good. (The greens are going to be nice when they are done.)

These greens also have lots of undulation - so be prepared to be on the right side of the green. Miss to the wrong side and you will have an interesting putt.

Knowing where to hit the ball is a key factor in attacking this course. It can be very intimidating off the tee. But with a little know how and a lot of trust in your game, this course can be attacked in a good way.

There are a lot of scoring holes as well as scenic holes. Take advantage of all the good this course has to bring becuase you will want to come back for more.

Played on Sunday 1/9/11 - and the course was in okay shape considering all of the rain in souther cali. lately -

Some of the fairways were good and others had mud areas that the greenskeeper crew rolled carts through, making it look even worst. It is going to take some work to get some of those fairways back in shape. (3-4) -
In most of the areas they are letting a lot of the grass grow, again from all of the rain. so some of the tee boxes had more grass on them than in recent rounds.
Greens were soft but in good shape - took some beatings from the divots people do not like to fix, and try and fix your foot prints - (it cost me a couple of strokes) - the greens will get a little harder when the rain stops for a while.

Again this course was in good shape considering the amount of rain that it has taken in the past few months. Go out and enjoy.

Did a turnaround trip to play this course -
Let me tell you after all of the complaining about the drive and how far it is - IT WAS WORTH IT - this course is very nice - (it screams outing) -

The customer service was good but the one guy seemed like he was not all there? Then he snapped into his treat the customer right attitude. However, the starter, marshalls and othe staff members were excellent - it is the type of service that you get at a 5 star hotel or resturant. Excellent.

The one issue that i did have for the day was - the carts have GPS that has the green veiw and a flag - well all of the FLAGs were off - It was like it needed to be reset.

The greens were nice and smooth, rolled very true and pretty fast. They would only hold shots if you hit them in the air. If you hit low running shots then the greens would not hold them and they would run forever. Hence my second shot on the par three (island water) hole. My first shot was on the green, so me and my bud took a second shot to go after a pin the tucked in the front on the right 10 feet from the water -
He hit his shot left and it caught the ridge and rolled right next to the hole. - I went after the flag and it hit, skipped, hit the rough and into the water behind the hole. What fun.

The fairways are emmaculant - very manicured. As well as the tee boxes.
It reminds me of going to Palm Springs - desert golf - but this place was just much better.

If you ever get the chance to go - it is well worth the drive.

Keep up the good work.

Played the Oak with several GK'rs
Man this is where I had my first outing and it always brings good memories to my heart. I don't recall a time when the course has been in bad shape- and on this day it was AGAIN in wonderful condition.
Played the front terrible and the back excellent -then the attendant goes man the front is easy and the back is harder - that made my day :)
The fairways where green and manicured, the greens held shots and rolled true, don't be on the wrong side of the greens - they will bite.

The course was in perfect condition, if u have never played this course, come out early - enjoy the service (staff is awesome), hit some balls (starter awesome), play the course (awesome), take pictures (awesome views & course), visit the 19th (awesome service) -and tell a friend because it's that good.

Played Thursday Afternoon with Longball and Johnny GK -
Okay I was wonder what this was going to be like - I heard stories of old timers playing this course. The Champion Tour Stop??? - but big names in golf. Trevino, Nickalus, Palmer, etc.

If you like the history, then maybe you should check it out. It was a very different experience for me. Pulling into this place was one thing, but looking at the golf course from the window of the car got me all excited.

This place was very lush - the fairways were lined, the greens were rolling, the rough ws thick. It was challenge for all skill levels. Lots of different holes, maybe two or three holes alike? Had trouble on #1 but settled down and listen to my caddy (Longball) - I will say if you hit it straight, there is no advantage here for you, this course demands some left and right action. (but straight does not hurt you at all) -

Then there is one of the best par 3's on the golf course, maybe even in the county. There is a plaque there that tells the histroy. The hole is long, protected, and trouble. It is a beautiful site from the tee, until it is time to hit. LOL

The tee boxes were in good shape, the service was excellent. This is a great course and inn to spend some quality time. Its on my to do list.

Keep up the good work -

The course was in great shape - the fairways where green and had these nice cut lines. The greens held shots and where nice with only a few ball marks. Tee boxes where in good shape as well as the rough being in good shape.
We were going in front of a tournament, later that day and they were in for a very nice treat as far as the course conditions.

It was a nice experience and I will be going back to play again.

Played Friday 9/24 - with Thingstodo -
A very slow round - first couple of holes was the regular slow start. Get to number 6 (the long per 4) and it seems like it speeds up. Well not this day. Every hole waiting, we were behind a tournament that had 5 someone's in the groups?

The course was not in the best condition - I have played this course on several occassions and the course was down compared to its normal history. Maybe they are not watering the course? Tee boxes were just okay, Greens were 1/2 punched and the holes were cut in wierd places - real close to the edges. Fairways were okay but dry.

We did see the cart attendant, however she di not want to have anything to do with our group. on several occassions she just rolled right by us??? - Also she kept her cart LOCKEd - so you had to guess what she had, she claims that she is told to keep it locked? Really, people are going to steal water and gatorade, golf is supposed to be honest - and she locked it right in front of me as well - what is up with that???

It was an interesting day - but there is some good. The ladies that are in the clubhouse snack shop are very nice and very attentative - they always smaile and are always working to make sure you have a great day.

Mt Woodson -

I will say that it was very interesting when I read the reviews before the gk event started. The one gentleman that really made the course sound like a dog track -
Well this was not at all what he talked about - this course was a very nice, enjoyable track.

The service was very good - the young lady at the counter that was trying to serve the Gker's and the regular members was working with a smile and was never rude. And she had a good reason to be rude becuase of her condition - (congrats to her) - she maintained her smile all day long.

One think to knock about Mt. Woodson - is that there is no hitting area / driving range - which was a little different. Like said before the first three holes make a difference in your round but you use them to get in a groove. It looks like there is some space -so that should be a priority to get some type of hitting area.

The greens where in good shape - they rolled good and did not have the bumpyness that was expected from previous reviews.
The tee boxes - although changed around (from the old longer course) where in satisfactory shape. They were mostly all level and had GREAT veiws to admire will waiting to hit.

I thought the course was well worth the trip - 2.5 hours - and for some it was even further and I would be willing to come back to play this fantastic course.

Played Olivas 8/3 - with a couple of GK'ers (Longball, LKGSX) -
Wow what a course - If you have never played here before you are missing a really nice treat.

When you drive in and walk to the club house (trailer) you get good honest service. Polite and willing to get you out there to play.

The practice area is huge and in great shape - chipping areas, putting areas, chipping in rough areas, driving range -

Played form the black - with a good wind all day.

Hit it in the fairway and you were rewarded. The ball would roll on the manicured fairways - they were perfect. Tee boxes were in good shape, as well as the rough and the sand.

The greens where looking good but rolled with some bump to them, causing them to slow down a bit. Still rolled pretty true and fair. Just do not have a long putt - bad news. Pin placements where tough when we played, which shows that they can really toughen this track up if they have to.

Great rate for twighlight, great company, great golf course - it is worth the 50+ miles it takes for me to get to the course.

Never played Green River but was excited when I pulled up. I always see it off the fairway and wondered how it really played. Well I was in for a surprise. I thought it was just an ordinary muni but it turned out to be a different type of enviroment.

As you all know they had two courses ( i didnt even know that) that they condensed to one. The club house is very inviting with very good service and space to walk around. The 19th hole is large and spacious. We were going to watch the LAKER game after we played but, the dinre was closed??? Only serving adult beverages.

The course starts off with a down hill carry shot, short par 4 where the landing area plays tricks on you. i noticed a lot of the holes that where not straight forward had some little trickery (visually) that would make you think. The fairways looked shorter but had room for long shots.

Tee boxes, fairways were in great shape, the greens just need to be rolled then the bumps will go away and they will roll real good. The roll good now but on some holes the bumps will have an impact on your putt.

The wind is a factor here - especially when you go down to the back 6 holes. There was very littel wind until we hit 13. Then welcome to the hard part. This course has some very nice holes with some spectacular veiws. It is too bad they only have two pictures up, beciase they have a lot of nice veiws on the course.

this course is well worth the short ride, the stop by waiting for traffic, or the visit once in a while. Great Service, an interesting set of holes and a history / future lesson if you ask in the pro shop.

Played Sat 5/15 in the GK Tourney -
wow what an experience - this place is speechless. The parking is tight but I almost crashed just looking at the building. You walk through the doors and the history of golf hits you. The pictures on the walls, the memorabilia, the statments made by the visionaries of the course. But what really took me for a loop, was all of the players names and dates in the floor, you are walking the same paths that they walked.

Again this place is awesome, the bathrooms were just as remarkable. Sounds wierd but they were the best I have seen so far. You walk into the dining / bar area straight ahead or the pro shop to your left. Both areas demand their own attention. the house that Jack built was his second great accomplishment in La Quinta.

His first - was building a championship golf course. And that it is, from 1 to 18 the course provided different challenges for everyones game. bunkers place in the fairways to make you think off the tee, drop offs in the fairways and next to the greens. Very well placed bunkers next to the greens or should i say below the greens? Being to Agreesive can get you in trouble, miss the green and live in the bunkers, with a difficult shot back up to the green. Even the par 3 bunkers were difficult.

The bunkers were a littel dissapointing to me and it was more of my game than anything. But I was told that the bunkers didnt have the soft fluffy sand in them becuase when the winds kick up (often out here?) they blow the sand right out of the bunkers. They are experimenting with a heavier sand to get better results?

The fairways were plush, the pictures do not do them justice. The rough was plush as well. The course was in great condition. The tee boxes were outstanding, near perfect, well maybe they were perfect?

I know everyone is saying how you should visit this course becuase it is the best. They are not only right but they are not telling you that it is guarenteed that you will enjoy urself more than you have at any other golf course in the Palm Springs Area and other surrounding areas. This is the place that others should look at and take back to their clubs to make them better.

GREAT JOB -
to Jack, PGA West Staff, and Johnny for this event.
Thank You -

This was the first course that we had on our Palm Springs schedule. We had a choice between this course, Eagle Falls (great course), Classic Club (ditto) and we chose to play Westin.
I would like to start with the weather - What a beautiful day, hot but manageable, atmosphere nice.

The club house is small but very comfortable, nice employees and other golfers. They are sponsered by Callaway - which I thought was interesting beause EVERYTHING was callaway - Starter was nice but if anyone ever complains I can understand why - but he was very good with us and the other golfers before us.

The course was in good shape - I wish there was a practice area like this one around my area. They had everything. Putting greens, a big chipping area, a big sand area and a long range area. This area was very nice.
The course was also in good condition. They actually water punched the greens so you could see these little holes but the putts rolled very true and still medium fast. When the greens fully heal, they are going to be very fast.

Sand traps were in good condition, sand was consistent throughout the course. Not all very deep but some of them had some lips to them. And they were placed in areas, the average golfer will miss.

Fairways and tee boxes were in very good shape as well, the only thing negative I could think to say is that the cart paths pass the tee boxes if you are playing more than the whites. On several occassions we had to turn around becuase we were at the wrong tee box. (I think that was more our fault) They have signage, we just were not paying enough attention.

Very nice veiws of mountains, skys, homes, and so on. Also the course design was very interesting as well with things like water in the middle of two fairways, and other little things that make you think before your shot.

This course should be a must play on your list if you are going out to palm springs. they have great deals on GOLFNOW.com that will help with pricing but if that is not a problem then this is one of the places that should be bucket listed.
