Used Golfguide.org coupon for $49.00 on a pleasant day with just a whisper of a breeze. Greens were medium quick, some bumps but not bad at all overall. Fairways were ok to pretty good with some brown patches here and there. Tee boxes were fine. Staff in the pro shop and on the course were friendly. Saw the refreshment cart a couple of times as well as the marshals. Pace was at will. Range is grass. Price of $49.00 with cart is a fair deal for a weekend. Bunkers were well kept. Easy to lose a ball or two in the long fescue.

Played Monday, Nov 11, Vet's day. This is one of my favorites in the San Francisco Bay Area. Had a coupon for $45.00. Facilities are worthy of many private clubs I've been to. You start off on hole 11 which features a gorgeous view of the course from an elevated tee box. There are vineyards to the left and down to the fairway is a beautiful lake on the left that dogs to the left to an elevated green protected by water. Beautiful but a little mean for the first hole. There really are not any vanilla-flavored holes here and the signature hole is a par 3 perched high up on a cliff looking down to an island green surrounded by a stunning, scenic winding lake. You'll take a deep breath and take in the view before launching off! I'll play here whenever possible!

Played Sunday, Nov 11, north course which is right now in better shape than the south. They are planning on reconstructing nine holes of the south course sometime in the next year. The new owners invested about $3million of their own money into the driving range which is really nice now. All grass with many flags at different yardages. There are mats but it looks like there is a grass area that can be used to hit from maybe in the future. I cut my teeth on these two courses many years ago so I am very partial to this complex. It is 25 minutes from where I live in San Francisco, the weather is tons nicer than SF, there are two courses to choose from, Jim's is great for breakfast and for a drink and snacks while watching the games afterward. So once they get the courses in shape and remodel the clubhouse, this would be home base for me again. Right now, the north course is in fair shape. $40 to walk and this is a nice course to walk. Maybe short for many but a fun course with water hazards and many old trees to contend with. But once the south course get refurbished, it'll be the one to play as it's layout is much more challenging in length and layout. The grass is pretty much a garden salad with some mean-ass bermuda grass near the greens so follow through! Golfers here are courteous and friendly as is the staff.

Played last Sunday for $36 golfguide.org and was pleasantly surprised at how good of a shape the whole course was in. No complaints from box to greens as the maintenance crew has definitely picked it up from the last time I played there. Pro shop attendant was cordial but not too interested in customer relations as he was just an order taker. Didn't use the restaurant, saw the cart girl once but did not need anything. Pace was not bad for a Sunday. Hit off turf at range but they ran out of balls after we got ours so they had to go out and collect from the range. Starter was hilarious so he was good fun. Front nine is somewhat short and benign but the back nine starts to climb gnarly hills with plenty of hazards ending with an elevated tee shot down to an island-like green. You gotta hit the flat part before the water or you got a severe downhill shot across the water to the green. It didn't help that the wind storm started on the back nine that day. Too bad the wind came up as it was a perfect day in the morning. The greens were almost mark free that day. They started punching today so give it a couple weeks.

Played today on a foggy day $36 golfguide.org cert. No amenities used today, just straight to the 1st tee 4.25 hour pace. Metro is playing very muni-like lately and today there were roped off areas on quite a few holes but especially on 17 where it was like a rubix cube of g.u.r! Greens were very playable with good rolls and not too many bumps and marks. But gone are the days of pristine fairways and roughs back in the day. But I guess it is becoming par for the course at a lot of bay area courses. the 17th is an interesting and challenging hole. Good for walking but cart was included. Good value for $36 but would have to think hard about paying much more than that.

Played on Sunday, October 20 at 11:00am because used Golfguide.org certificate for $47.00 which dictates after 11am on weekends. Man...was it sloooow! Pace was 5 hours but would have been longer if not for some preceding golfers bailing out on their foursomes. One thing I enjoy is admiring the nice Bimmer M6's et al in the parking lot every time I'm here but if I were the owners, I might invest in a club membership at Green Hills in Millbrae. I've seen Crystal Springs in much better shape before so I'm probably gonna drop this course out of the rotation for this season. Greens usually pretty true and it was except for all the ball marks left unfixed. I must have easily fixed half a dozen marks while waiting to putt out. Fairways were ok but really beat up on the downside of the fairways. Cart girl was nice but old enough to be my grandma and I'm no spring chicken. No enjoyment factor to report today due to long waits between shots and exasperated by a slight hangover from a fundraiser. I'm told this pace is typical of weekends but because the course slants to the right towards the springs starting out and to the left on the way back, it messes with the average Sunday golfer quite a bit. So expect a slow round unless you are one of the early birds.

Played Thursday using Golfnow Deal $140/foursome. It 'twas a beautiful Napa day. Club house facilities is very nice, did not eat there. Cart person is efficient and saw her three times evenly spaced, had a tuna sandwich at the turn snack bar which was fine. Pace was deliberately casual as we were not pushed. Atmosphere is peaceful with many vineyards and some water hazards. Conditions overall good, tee boxes trim and flat, fairways green and running for the most part. There were some soggy spots and some bare spots both on the fairway and rough but bearable or should I say bare-able. Greens were punched kinda recently but were completely healed with some sanding. B+ for greens. Layout is interesting but I find Eagle Vines more fun. The 8th hole par 3 has an elevated tee box down to a green shaped like a river running side to side with waterfall like undulations. Fun hole because you need to be dead on notwithstanding the short distance. For $30.00 this was a steal deal but I paid $40 for Eagle Vines and would play there instead. Both good courses especially if you snag a good deal!

Played last Tuesday for the first time in over a year. Walked for $37.00. They built a new pro shop and adjacent restaurant. Looks nice, pro shop is tiny, didn't eat at restaurant. They are building new clubhouse where the old one was. Grass range hasn't changed. No starter, refreshment cart, pace was 4.25 hours. Conditions were good overall with some bare spots, daisies between tee box and greens but overall good. Greens are semi-fast and fairly true. Water comes in play often with many irrigation ditches that are not noticeable to the infrequent patron's eyes. Course layout is interesting and course knowledge will help quite a bit. But fun course with many thinking holes. Will play more often when good rates allow. Many Canadian geese but not crazy crowded, a few squirrels and an occasional deer for you wildlife lovers. Bunkers were fine but a bit wet that day.

Paid $25.00 today so I can't complain too much. This municipal course is really a decent course with some length, doglegs, water hazards and many huge old trees. Rode a cart included in the price but this is a good walking course. Overall the conditions are fair to poor in some spots whether it be the tee boxes, fairways, bunkers or greens. Greens were consistently slow but viable. Pro shop is small and functional. The restaurant/bar is the shining beacon with great yelp reviews. There is a ratty driving range available with a short game area. I don't know if this is a constant but from the 2nd hole to about the ninth I believe, it stunk like passing Harris' Ranch on I-5. It was nasty but maybe it was an anomaly. Overall, we had a nice, easy going mid week round for cheap. Nice to do once in a while.

Played today on a beautiful day using Groupon certificate for $45.00. Played here only twice before at least a couple of years ago. Pro shop is friendly and well stocked. Didn't eat here. Cart girl was very pretty and friendly. Pace was about 4.5 hours although it was not packed, pace was a bit slow at times. Conditions were great from tee box to greens. Greens were pretty true and above average fast. This is a very fun course with each hole having its interesting quirks but not being gimmicky at all. There were a bunch of elevated tees and their signature hole is a par 3 elevated tee box down to an island green. I don't know why but I always enjoy island greens and especially this one because of its scenic Kodak photo opportunity. So if I can play here as often as I can find decent rates. Very enjoyable and will be more so once I can become more familiar with this fine course.

$50 including hot dog lunch, cart and sleeve.
Pro shop: courteous and friendly
Cafe: Friendly and helpful.
Cart girl: sick that day
Pace: as fast or as slow as we wanted as there was no one there except for a single at the end of the round. Not exaggerating.
Conditions: A little ragged on the tee boxes with dandelions and plenty of unfilled divots, fairways were firm, grassy but trimmed, bunkers like mud though, greens were soft but fairly quick but a few bumps here and there.
Favorite hole: 9th hole on Hillside. Blind shot to the creek then a carry to the green.
Enjoyment factor: Has some length but many holes are bland and the houses are everywhere and very close too. It's an ok course but Roddy is the best out there. But we go for the deals.
