Walked the golds at Piper one of my favorite tracks Monday afternoon 4/24/23 joined by my buddy Mark teeing off at 2pm finishing in 4 hrs 20 minutes under partly cloudy skies with the temp around 62 degrees. We flew around as a twosome for the first 9 holes and then caught a mini tournament on the 10th tee that played at a decent pace on the back nine.

All staff encountered were super friendly including Vern in the proshop. All grass range is a plus. Very sloped beautiful putting green that you can pitch on and a great patio/restaurant overlooking the Pacific.

The conditions here at this time are in good to very good condition.

The greens are quick, putting true and in great shape. Like most courses but especially here you must be putting or chipping below the pins. Anything downhill here takes great touch to get close. I thought the greens held shots well which is a perfect combination. Rated 8.5/10 maybe closer to 9/10.

Fairways were mostly all lush, carpet 9/10 range. Great shape.

They had the mowers cutting some of the rough down just barely off the fairways. Anything past the 1st cut of rough/cart paths has up to waist high rough and really puts some teeth into this course. While some might not like it I love it not only visually but makes the course even tougher. Rough rating 9/10

Was in greenside bunker on 11 that had just enough sand and was raked to a firmer base on top. Rated 7/10

The tees were lush but several of them could use some leveling. Not to hard though to move a couple feet over and find a level stance. Rated 7/10

This course to me has it all. Some elevation changes, fast challenging greens, unbelievable views, great layout.

Highly recommended.

Walked the Orange Tees Monday 4/17/23 teeing off around 12:45pm joined by my buddy Matt and a nice single that joined us from Marina Del Rey. Weather was in the low 60s and about a club breeze so pretty much almost perfect weather. Pop was 4 hrs 40 minutes which was relaxed with the amount of people on the course.

Wanted to give a few updates on the course before I get into the conditions as I have played here a couple times since the big rains. The regular routing of tbe course is back to normal and they have made almost finishing touches on the bridge walking from 10 green to 11 tee and 16 tee to 16 green. 16 par 3 is now playing its regular length. Only change at this time is they are still working on the area just in front of 15 green. So this great hole is now playing as a short 300 yd par 4 with a temporary green in the middle of the fairway. The water running through the creek around the property is majestic right now and gives Soule even more ambiance. My buddy and I ate on their patio resturant Zadies overlooking this beautiful property. They have great burgers and some good beers on tap.

Course is in really good condition with the greens running a little slower than normal at this time. They are very soft and still putt pure. Big surfaces where good lag putting is important. Would rate them a 7.5/10.

The fairways are in very good shape. Mostly lush and very green for early spring. The next few months the fairways should be in their best shape. Rated 8/10

Tees all level and lush and in good shape. Even the par 3 Tees were mostly filled in nicely. Rated 8/10.

Was in greenside bunker on hole 8 that had great sand in it easy to splash out of. The bunkers here can be deep with big lips and must be avoided. Rated 8.5/10.

Rough was mowed down just off the fairways and in decent to good shape. Rated 7.5/10.

Great prices, great walk, very fun layout, great conditions, friendly staff, good food....highly recommended

Rode the blues with buddies Mark, Ron and John this morning 4/10/23 as part of the Golfmoose/Gk event. We were never pushed and took our time as to not run up on the group ahead of us. Foggy morning with a tee off around 9:20am turned into a perfect weather day for golf with the high reaching 70 degrees and maybe a club of wind on the latter back nine holes.

My 4th time playing here and if you get a chance jump on the opportunity. Curent LPGA tour stop and a host of former US OPEN qualifiers. This course has a mix of doglegs, trees, ob, water and beautiful strategic fairway and greenside bunkering. Some slight elevation changes but this parkland style course has most things right in front of you.

Greens are in great shape, firm, true and holding irons nicely. Don't want to be putting or chipping downhill. Noticed today that a player might see more break than there actually is on some putts. Rating the greens a 9/10.

Fairways were mainly lush, cut tighter with a nice amount of roll out. Fairways run from some tight shots on the first couple holes to some larger landing areas as the round progresses. Rated 8/10

Tees were very firm, lush and level. Good shape rated 8.5/10

Rough just directly off the fairways was beautiful, lush and in great shape. Mostly anything outside of the cart paths was super lush and gone. Rated 8.5/10.

Was not in any bunkers but tested one out for practice and it was nice firmer base raked on top with just enough sand underneath.

Our group had a blast with I believe 8 birdies as a group. Very challenging course where if you are hitting it well in play and can putt these challenging Greens a score can be had. I can also see BIG numbers here as well.

Highly recommended!!

Out this morning for the Gk/Golfmoose outing shotgun 11am start. Played with Johnny, Ron and Todd. Great group and we really enjoyed ourselves. Pop was just a shade over 5 hrs on a cooler cloudy 58 degree day with light winds. Very friendly cart barn and marshals here. Carts were basic, comfortable with no GPS. No driving range for longer clubs but they do have 3 mats to hit up to 160 yd shots as well as a nice putting and chipping green.

Sunset Hills is very lush right now with very lush rough, lush Fairways and nice greens and tee boxes.

The greens were pure, soft on approaches and putting pure and in great shape. Several greens here are small in size and contain a nice amount of undulation. Rated 8/10 the highlight of the course.

Fairways were mostly lush and for the amount of rain we have had were playable and at times wet and muddy. They played and looked great, Rated 8/10.

Rough lining the cartpaths was lush and had patches of some pretty thick stuff. Rated 7.5/10

Tees were level, lush and in good shape. Rated 8/10

Not in any bunkers but they looked well groomed.

Sunset Hills CC puts premium on accuracy into tight narrower Fairways and smaller greens. Lots of 60 wedge high lofted chips needed if you miss the greens. A nice mix of doglegs each way, several blind shots and for sure some scoreable holes if you can keep the ball in play.

Day 2b buddies trip. Last round of the trip saw us at probably my favorite course in the desert. Tee off time was 140pm. We played the front nine twice under perfect conditions for the first 7 holes and then several wind gust storms that swirled to 35mph plus at times and then stopped and started for the remainder of the day. We had the breakfast burritos and burgers on their massive patio overlooking this stunning facility. All staff encountered were friendly and helpful. All grass range and practice areas here are fabulous. I could spend hours there. Very comfortable carts, bottled water and GPS all a nice touch.

The greens were firm and in good shape. Most of the green complexes are guarded by strategic Fairway bunkering. Most greens are ample size and some have some multi tiers to them. Rating the greens a 8 to 8.5 out of 10.

Fairways were in good shape. Some sections on front had very small areas of dried grass but nothing to major. Overall would rate them still an 8/10.

Tees were level and beautiful. Rated 9/10

Rough was beautiful and well maintained 9/10.

Not in any bunkers but they looked well, maintained.

Was bummed we could not play the back nine as holes 13 to 18 are my favorite stretch of holes.

Former PGA tour stop. Wonderful layout, top notch facilities, great conditions. Disneyland for adult golfers.

Highly recommend this course to all golfers

Day 2a buddies trip. Play day Tuesday 2/21/23 at 720am joined by Johnny, Mark and Matt on a perfect weather Palm Desert morning. Pop I think was around 4 hrs 30 minutes for an enjoyable relaxed pace.

My 4th time playing here and the conditions are just stellar as usual.

Greens firm and true. Only holding irons with high trajectory and spin. Chips running out firm. Hardly any ball marks. A pleasure to putt on. Green sizes were medium and had some undulations to them. Always enjoy putting here. Most greens are sloped back to front. Rated 9/10

Desert Willow has some of the nicest Fairways rated 9 to 9.5 out of 10. Perfect lies. Fairways here depending on the hole can have ample room to smaller landing areas depending on the hole. Nice mix of short and long par 4s from the back two tees.

Rough is incredibly lush. It does not look long to the naked eye but is thick upon impact. Rated 9.5/10

Was not in any bunkers but playing partners mentioned firmness of sand.

Tees were perfect, level and lush. Rated 9/10

I prefer this side to Mountainview. A very nice challenge and always fun to play. Backdrop on holes 9 and 18 are spectacular. We didn't have a chance to eat on their patio but for sure a cool vibe.

Day 1b buddies trip afternoon round on Monday 2/20 at Palm Valley CC private Challenge course teeing off at 245pm. Probably one of my favorite rounds in a while joined by buddies Johnny and Mark on a beautiful afternoon with no wind and temps in the 70s.

Heard so many awesome stories about players wanting to get on this course and how tough it can be to get on here. Feel honored to be writing a review for it. We felt like we were owners of the golf course. We waited for a twosome ahead of us the first couple of holes and when they quit after the front nine we flew around the back nine just finishing before dark. If they are somehow Gk members or are reading this I apologize again for almost killing them on the fly on hole 3 green.

This course is going to come close to a 10 on all conditions.

Greens pure, true perfect rolls medium to firm speed. Green complexes still small but not as small as there Championship course. Greens rated a 9.5/10.

Fairways were a perfect 10 lush perfectly manicured. Hated even taking a divot off of them.

Some of the best tees 10 and rough 10 I have ever seen condition wise. Pga tour quality.

Was in one bunker on hole 9 greenside in great condition 9/10

Layout was so fun. You start with four par 4s that are drivable for long hitters but two them have water features right in front of the green. Probably one of the most enjoyable risk reward short courses I have ever played. Then you play four gorgeous par 3s some with water features in front or to the side of the green. The back nine features a mix of par 4s and 3s as well. In total 9 par 4s and 9 par 3s. Generally I love longer courses with 5 par 5s but I fell in love with this course.

Highly recommended. Rating condition wise should be in the 9.5 range.

Day 1a Palm Valley desert buddies trip Monday Feb 20th. Morning round shotgun start 8am. Temps cold to start heading into Chamber of Commerce weather in the 70s with no wind throughout the remainder of the day. Joined by Mark, Ron and Matt such a great group. Relaxed pace nobody pushing us. Staff very friendly when we arrived. Range on mats. Great practice chipping and sand area. Comfortable carts but no GPS. Had the Italian chicken sandwich in between rounds which was delicious.

Prior reviews are spot on. Wall to Wall lush conditions in a nice retirement upscale community. Course lined by homes with nice big tall palm trees.

Greens were fabulous. Good to great condition. Very fast and very small greens was the theme on this course. You did not want to be short sided or chipping downhill. Many approaches here that would normally be a 20 to 25 foot putt on most courses were missing the green here and presenting a tough chip to a small surface. Rating the greens a 8.5/10.

Fairways lush carpet. Perfect lies. Rated 9/10. Most Fairways had some undulations to them and most holes you can rip and grip with a few tighter holes but nothing to target oriented.

Tees perfect level and lush. Rated 9/10.

Was not in any sand but they looked decent, raked and in good shape.

Rough was decent length but not to penal. Beautiful shape and lush as well. Rated 9/10

Layout provided some awesome dogleg holes like number 9 which you were able to rip a drive over the water with a draw and get close to the green. Most of the par 3s featured shots over majestic Beautiful water features and were a blast to play. Water comes into play on several drives and most par 3 holes.

We enjoyed the round and recommend the course.

Walked the golds this afternoon 2/13/23 under cloudy skies around 60 degrees on a cooler day with a club breeze. Played with buddies John, Ron and Mark with a POP of 4 hrs 45 minutes. Great group of gents. Great friendly staff , nice grass range and very sloped putting green that you can also chip on.

The greens as usual were in very nice shape would say close to an 11 on the stimp with a very small Mico punch that did not effect putts at all. Holding irons nicely. Don't want to be above the hole here is the constant theme. Rating these beauties a 8.5/10.

Fairways mostly lush coverage, few muddy spots closer to chipping areas. Good to great shape rated 8/10.

Tees level, lush and in very nice shape 8/10

Was not in any bunkers but they looked raked and firm.

Rough just outside of cart paths super lush and thick us open style rough. Lost ball areas abound outside of the paths. Really adds challenge here and is visually stunning.

One of my favorite courses in California. Love me some Sandpiper. Amazing views of the Pacific. Highly recommended

Out at Moorpark CC earlier this week on a absolutely beautiful day for golf with no wind and a 4 hrs 5 minute pace of play. I joined a twosome retired firefighters who were a absolute pleasure to play with. We played the Canyon Crest/Creekside combo. The conditions here are fabulous for this time of year. Had a chance to tie my low here today but missed a 7 foot birdie putt on Creek 9.

The greens were the best surfaces that I have putted on in some time. Would rate them right up with SDCC greens as far as firmness(11 on the stimp). Very true rolls. Don't get above the hole. Perfect combination though of holding high iron or well compressed shots. Rating these a 9/10 today.

The Fairways were mostly green, tight padded semi lush surfaces. Very good shape considering the colder overnight temps the last couple months. Moorpark is going to have an awesome year with their Fairways. Rated 8/10.

Tees all level, Green and lush. Rated 8/10.

Was in greenside bunker on Creek 9 and Canyon 9 with well groomed and raked sand with a firmer top base and plenty of sand underneath. Rated 7.5/10

Rough color contrast dormant brown looks amazing right next to the green Fairways. Rough was cut down to 1 to 2 inches and very playable just off the Fairways. Rated 7.5/10

Great customer service, practice area and layout. Canyon Crest has some scoreable holes while Creek and Ridge offers some scoreable holes and some very tough holes if your hitting it crooked. Amazing views of the property. Always a challenge and soft place in my heart here as I got hitched here.

Walked the Oak Tees today teeing off just before noon with a 5 hr POP on a packed course under sunny skies mid to high 50 temps and maybe a one club wind.

As most know Ventura County got hit pretty hard from the rains these last couple of weeks. I had seen pics of the course and am happy to say the soul is still here at Soule Park. Just a couple of changes before I get into the conditions. They did not lose any greens, tees or fairways thank goodness. They are working on the edges just pass the bridge between 10 and 11 and also working on some irrigation spots throughout the course. The only current change is the 16th hole is now an 80-100 yd par 3 on the other side of the creek but I saw the normal
tee box on 16 being reseeded and it looks nice. I'm assuming once the work is done around the bridge it will be back up to its regular length. Currently the routing of the course has you play 1,2,3..then 15, 11,12,13,14,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,16,17,18.

Greens were super soft today and rolling beautiful. Very damp with ballmarks sinking in more. Rated 7.5/10

Fairways were wet, semi lush and playing decently. Very little roll today. Rated 7/10. With this much rain Soule is going to have a great year when the weather warms up.

Tees mostly level and lush and in good shape. Rated 7.5/10

Was not in any bunkers but from what I saw they looked beautiful and raked considering the rain we have received.

Rough was in good shape. Thick, wet and juicy. Rated 7.5/10

Cool to hear the river rushing through and around the course. River has made the carry over 2 tee and to 15 green slightly longer.

As always awesome staff, layout, weather and prices. Conditions will only improve to very good into spring. Highly recommend.

Last round of 2022 had me riding the blues this morning 12/30/2022 at the historic Ojai Valley Inn teeing off around 10:10am. I played through 4 foursomes and 1 threesome for a 3 hr POP with a threatening rain chance that never materialized and cloudy skies and no wind. Very comfortable 58 degree day. Thx to Dave and his staff for having me out.

OVI has a grass range, seperate chipping/putting area below the range

Greens were terrific in the 8/10 range holding shots very softly and rolling beautifully.

Fairways were mostly padded mostly lush surfaces with a winter yellow hue that were damp from overnight rains but very playable. Rated 7/10

Tees mostly level, lush and in good shape. It's a shame 18 is not where it usually is. They have the tips[blue tees] playing as a 300 yd par 4 up the hill.

Rough was wet and in good shape. Most of the fringes and chipping area just off the greens were soggy more than usual. Rated 6.5/10

Was in greenside bunker on 1 and 7 which had a nice layer base of raked sand . Rated 7/10.

Love this place! So many greats have played here. Highly recommended!
