Played Olivas 8/3 - with a couple of GK'ers (Longball, LKGSX) -
Wow what a course - If you have never played here before you are missing a really nice treat.

When you drive in and walk to the club house (trailer) you get good honest service. Polite and willing to get you out there to play.

The practice area is huge and in great shape - chipping areas, putting areas, chipping in rough areas, driving range -

Played form the black - with a good wind all day.

Hit it in the fairway and you were rewarded. The ball would roll on the manicured fairways - they were perfect. Tee boxes were in good shape, as well as the rough and the sand.

The greens where looking good but rolled with some bump to them, causing them to slow down a bit. Still rolled pretty true and fair. Just do not have a long putt - bad news. Pin placements where tough when we played, which shows that they can really toughen this track up if they have to.

Great rate for twighlight, great company, great golf course - it is worth the 50+ miles it takes for me to get to the course.

Never played Green River but was excited when I pulled up. I always see it off the fairway and wondered how it really played. Well I was in for a surprise. I thought it was just an ordinary muni but it turned out to be a different type of enviroment.

As you all know they had two courses ( i didnt even know that) that they condensed to one. The club house is very inviting with very good service and space to walk around. The 19th hole is large and spacious. We were going to watch the LAKER game after we played but, the dinre was closed??? Only serving adult beverages.

The course starts off with a down hill carry shot, short par 4 where the landing area plays tricks on you. i noticed a lot of the holes that where not straight forward had some little trickery (visually) that would make you think. The fairways looked shorter but had room for long shots.

Tee boxes, fairways were in great shape, the greens just need to be rolled then the bumps will go away and they will roll real good. The roll good now but on some holes the bumps will have an impact on your putt.

The wind is a factor here - especially when you go down to the back 6 holes. There was very littel wind until we hit 13. Then welcome to the hard part. This course has some very nice holes with some spectacular veiws. It is too bad they only have two pictures up, beciase they have a lot of nice veiws on the course.

this course is well worth the short ride, the stop by waiting for traffic, or the visit once in a while. Great Service, an interesting set of holes and a history / future lesson if you ask in the pro shop.

wow what an experience - this place is speechless. The parking is tight but I almost crashed just looking at the building. You walk through the doors and the history of golf hits you. The pictures on the walls, the memorabilia, the statments made by the visionaries of the course. But what really took me for a loop, was all of the players names and dates in the floor, you are walking the same paths that they walked.

Again this place is awesome, the bathrooms were just as remarkable. Sounds wierd but they were the best I have seen so far. You walk into the dining / bar area straight ahead or the pro shop to your left. Both areas demand their own attention. the house that Jack built was his second great accomplishment in La Quinta.

His first - was building a championship golf course. And that it is, from 1 to 18 the course provided different challenges for everyones game. bunkers place in the fairways to make you think off the tee, drop offs in the fairways and next to the greens. Very well placed bunkers next to the greens or should i say below the greens? Being to Agreesive can get you in trouble, miss the green and live in the bunkers, with a difficult shot back up to the green. Even the par 3 bunkers were difficult.

The bunkers were a littel dissapointing to me and it was more of my game than anything. But I was told that the bunkers didnt have the soft fluffy sand in them becuase when the winds kick up (often out here?) they blow the sand right out of the bunkers. They are experimenting with a heavier sand to get better results?

The fairways were plush, the pictures do not do them justice. The rough was plush as well. The course was in great condition. The tee boxes were outstanding, near perfect, well maybe they were perfect?

I know everyone is saying how you should visit this course becuase it is the best. They are not only right but they are not telling you that it is guarenteed that you will enjoy urself more than you have at any other golf course in the Palm Springs Area and other surrounding areas. This is the place that others should look at and take back to their clubs to make them better.

GREAT JOB -
to Jack, PGA West Staff, and Johnny for this event.
Thank You -

This was the first course that we had on our Palm Springs schedule. We had a choice between this course, Eagle Falls (great course), Classic Club (ditto) and we chose to play Westin.
I would like to start with the weather - What a beautiful day, hot but manageable, atmosphere nice.

The club house is small but very comfortable, nice employees and other golfers. They are sponsered by Callaway - which I thought was interesting beause EVERYTHING was callaway - Starter was nice but if anyone ever complains I can understand why - but he was very good with us and the other golfers before us.

The course was in good shape - I wish there was a practice area like this one around my area. They had everything. Putting greens, a big chipping area, a big sand area and a long range area. This area was very nice.
The course was also in good condition. They actually water punched the greens so you could see these little holes but the putts rolled very true and still medium fast. When the greens fully heal, they are going to be very fast.

Sand traps were in good condition, sand was consistent throughout the course. Not all very deep but some of them had some lips to them. And they were placed in areas, the average golfer will miss.

Fairways and tee boxes were in very good shape as well, the only thing negative I could think to say is that the cart paths pass the tee boxes if you are playing more than the whites. On several occassions we had to turn around becuase we were at the wrong tee box. (I think that was more our fault) They have signage, we just were not paying enough attention.

Very nice veiws of mountains, skys, homes, and so on. Also the course design was very interesting as well with things like water in the middle of two fairways, and other little things that make you think before your shot.

This course should be a must play on your list if you are going out to palm springs. they have great deals on GOLFNOW.com that will help with pricing but if that is not a problem then this is one of the places that should be bucket listed.

This is a great course, always open and you seemed to be able to get a tee time at the last moment.
The course is in good shape, considering the time of the year and all of the rain that the course has taken on in the past weeks. The greens are in their dormant stage but are rolling very good. They are going to be nice when they come around.

The fairways are in pretty good condition and you can still get a little roll eventhough they are still a little wet.

The rough was good and im glad they cut some of it, I wonder how difficult would it really be if they let it grow even more???? -

I like playing RIO becuase it is a challenge, you cant just bomb it all the time, it has long holes and short holes, and it makes you think.

If you are down in the Downey area come by and play, it will be worth it.

For anyone that is wondering about this course and wondering why everyone talks about it in such a positive manner. It is becuase - It is an awesome experience at this facility.

The facility is nice - it has great veiws to the golf course as you are waiting for the morning breakfast. The staff greets you from the time they get your clubs to the time they get your food. They are really professional and a delight to be around. Good Job to the staff.

The range is a nice place to practice. Plenty of areas to practice on all areas of your golf game. And the range also has a very nice staff member (the starter) who is full of information that will help you enjoy your round.

The golf course - wow. It speaks for itself. The fairways are plush, the greens are smooth and roll pure. the challenge is fair, and if you play good it will reward you. The views are DISTRACTING - becuase they are so breath taking a times. - The course is just in wonderful shape all of the time. (Rain, Sleet or Snow) this course will always be in good shape.

This was the course I played my first outing, and after playing with a bunch of great guys (friends) it just made the experience even more enjoyable. If you have never played here - this is the place to play.

Have fun.

This course was very nice. I have played it before but everytime I play this course it gets better. The greens were in very good shape as well as the fairways (didnt see to many of those) - but they were in great shape from the tee boxes. :)
The rough was in great shape as well. You could get the ball out and on the green. The sand was in good shape and easy to get out.

The weather was hot as the day went on, with record highs it was very draining for me. However, the staff was very supportive with alll the players knowing the weather was very hot.

Speaking of the staff - they were very attentive to our casual outing. The provided very good service throughout the entire day. Even when we showed up early before the tourney started.

This course should be on the top 10 courses to play. It is on mine.

Wow - this word does not describe the course. After a good 2 hour drive we pull into a great looking area - the IW resort -

The course -
The practice tee area was good - the grass area was soft. The flags were placed on flat greens however, the yardage marks were not to be found.

Putting green area was terrific - we had a competition going with a couple of GK members - playing it as a par 3 putting contest. Wow this was a real fun putting course. You will enjoy it alot.

The course was in outstanding shape - there was plenty of water on the course and the starters and marshalls were encouraging to drink plenty of water. They have these water machines every three holes that produce ice, water and cups. I would encourage all or most of all of the course to have something similar.

Tee boxes were in excellent shape as well as the fairways and rough. Course dinot play long from the whites and the blues were not much longer. Lots of bunkers in play on all sides of the course. There are some uphill and downhill lies but not alot of severe lies.

The par 5's are rish and reward if you go for it in two. We shot at the flags on the par 3's. This course was in great shape and a lot of fun.

The meeting area or lounge area was fantastic - it has a great overview of the course with outside dining. The inside dining has evrything you could want, dining with entertainment, bar area and good food. It was great being able to watch the Laker game with a bunch of people but not be in a crowd of people.

But this place had it all - anyone want to get full lessons or partial lessons, maybe jjust have a private dinnner with a loved one? They have it all. The Callaway training center was awesome - we watched a gentlemen get lessons while the pro used all of the latest technology to analyze his swing, ball position, flight and everthing else. It was awesome. Every shaft, club, grip and things you need to build the perfect set.

If you ant to have some luxury in your life after you play a great golf course then this is where you want to be. You will really enjoy your your experience.

It was a great experience - that I would recommend and will take advantage of again.

Man this course is nice. - Practice area is great - chipping area, putting green, sand area and grass driving range.
The course itself is in great condition. First hole allows you to score as well as the second. The course is fair but local knowledge is premium.
The entire day was fun and full of good shots. If there is one hole to play it is the signature hole (Spinal Slide) - it is breathe taking and a good hole to play.

Staff was ery good and attentive to the golfers.

Fun place to play - one of the top places to play before you stop playin.

Played in the GK outing on 2/24 - The outing was terrific as well as Rustic Canyon. Played this golf course 3 weeks prior to the outing and it was in GREAT condition.

However, for the tourney they pulled out all of the stops. The fairways were super, the greens were perfect and fast. Greens rolled, so you had to hit them short to roll to the hole in a lot of cases. Hard part is remembering that.

Tee boxes were in good condition as well as the rough. One of the best things about the course is the GRILL - I was in there several times during the round and after the round. The GRILLSman was the man. Very helpful, nice and hard working. After a seriously long day he maintain a smile and a great attitude.

This was a terrific day and the course was fantasitic - this is a must play course on your list. You will definitely enjoy it.

Played on Thursday 2/12 - What an enjoyable day - a lot of groups playing today but we still got out on time. Not rushed at all -
Course was in great shape. It played longer due to the cold weather -

Cart girl came around several times and was very nice.

Slight wind on the back, but very playable. Greens rolled very well.

Great day

Played Rustic on Thursday 1/29 with JohnnyGK, TheBigDog, and CAllMeHammer. Hey guys thank for all of the FUN times.
It was a very nice preview of what is to come on 2/24 at the GK Outing. The weather was perfect when I left my home and when I arrived at the course I was welcomed to a very strong breeze. Went to the clubhouse and talked to the starter, he advised if I could to not play today due to the severe winds. (He was looking out for my mental game) - but if you just have to torture yourself then this is what to do.

He began to explain some of the things to be aware of so that I would be able to get around the course. Man that guy was really cool.

The course looked surpreme for hole one and was in GREAT shape. The tee boxes were lush and posed some interesting shots. It is two different course from the white to the blue, people always say there is little difference from the whites to the blues but on this course it is two different courses.

The fairways are in excellent condition. The rolled very true to their slopes. Bunkers we indeed in play on a lot of holes, but could have used a little more sand.

The greens were fast and firm. FYI the green on the first hole will fool you because it is not as fast as the rest???? Dont ask me why but, the greens seemed to get faster as the round went on. The false fronts can fool you when going for the green, but this inks style course allows you to putt from 100 yards and in so you can take advantage with the flat stick. Just like the British Open?????

For all of you that are playing in the 2/24 event. Be prepared for the different courses. If there is no wind scoring will be at a premium, however if the wind was anything like Thursday, scoring will be on good shots only.

Although this a challenging course it is VERY fun to play. You will definitely enjoy yourself, and not pay a lot to have fun.

Enjoy

The fairways were in excellent condition. They rolled very good and true to their slopes.
