Course was in pretty good condition (excellent for a muni), but not as good as 2 months back. Some patches of nasty bare spots were showing up, but the GK crew had them all marked as ground under repair. This condition was NOT prevalent throughout the course. Sand traps were consistent. Greens rolled fairly quick and smooth. Some of the par 3 tee boxes were getting a bit chewed up and 13 still has a ridge running straight down the middle. While Olivas may be a few bucks more than the LA City courses, there is just no comparison in the quality of the playing conditions. Olivas is a good value and a great place to break in the new King Cobra Driver!! : )

Great course to work out the kinks with the long clubs. I have not seen a muni with better fairways and greens than Olivas. The ball sat up nicely on every fairway and only the green on #11 showed any brown spots (and then, only in a few small areas). I look forward to playing again.

Played this morning with JohnnyGK and had a really nice time. The greens had just been crosscut and were lightly sanded. But, this didn't affect the roll except to slow it down which really should have helped me, but I just couldn't get those uphill putts to the hole. My 8 yr. old son, however, rolled them in from everywhere so I can only blame my lousy touch. The whole course is kukuyu grass but, like Riviera (and unlike Camarillo Springs), Olivas does a GREAT job at maintaining it. The fairways are really good. You won't get alot of roll, though. And, even though the rough is not really long, it can be very penalizing. It is, after all, kukuyu, and you can get the club twisted very easily. I prefer to walk when playing, and this course is a GREAT walk. Overall, I'd rate this course very high. No, it's not Moorpark Country Club or Lost Canyons, but niether does it carry the same price tag AND I'm not forced to take a golf cart.
Should also mention that I got in touch with JohnnyGK through this web site. I highly recommend using the "Find a Game" feature on this site or "Post a Tee Time" if you're looking for playing partners. It's not a feature that's greatly used, yet, but should be.

This was my first time here. I waited almost 2 hours as a single to get on, but the practice facilities there were excellent for keeping me busy during the wait. Grass driving range, large chipping area and a good-sized putting green were all in good shape. I hear they are planning a major re-do in November. I hope they don't re-route much of the course, because there are some truly wonderful holes on both the front and back nine's. The course is in really good shape, and has lots of character. Worth the wait for me.

I played this on 4/22 afternoon and I found the course to be in very good condition. The winds were blowing between 20 and 40 mph, but you can't hold the course responsible for that. The greens were very firm, but consistent. I did notice a few greens that were being lightly aerated but they still played well.
